Uniqlo is probably my favorite store. It's as cheap as a Dema Kovalenko foul and as stylish as a
man of my age can get away with without looking like the old guy at the club. In an obvious bid to
lay claim to even more of my money and closet space the Japanese retail giant is opening a second
NYC outpost only blocks from my office and have enlisted Carlos Mendes --the last of the
MetroStars-- as a pitchman; they may as well just start garnishing my paycheck.
The World Football Challenge continues to grow.
Just days after announcing a friendly with Real Madrid as part of the WFC, the Los Angeles
Galaxy announced it will host Manchester City at the Home Depot Center as part of the tournament on
July 24.
Manchester City just clinched a place in next year's UEFA Champions League and is in this
month's FA Cup final.
Colorado Rapids midfielder Brian Mullan is a winner. He has five MLS rings to prove it. He competes
in everything he does. Brian Mullan also messed up. The ill fated tackle against Seattle Sounders
midfielder Steve Zakuani that occurred before most fans even found their seats still brings a wave
of nausea whenever I see a replay, picture or description of the event.
My standard game review is coming tomorrow, but i wanted to get my comments on what happened to
Steve Zakuani down before MLS makes its ruling. This is a long post, so settle in. Anyone who
watched the game or any other MLS game this weekend has heard (or seen) what happened. In the 3rd
minute Brian Mullan went in two-footed on Steve Zakuani and got his leg, breaking the tibia and
fibula (both lower leg bones).
Dear Brian Mullan,
I'm here to give you some advice even though you don't know me. I'm just a regular Seattle
Sounders fan who happened to be watching the game yesterday. Right now you're probably a bit
skeptical of any advice. Especially considering the firestorm of negative reactions your reckless
challenge has provoked among the Sounders faithful.
The Galaxy's biological clock is ticking. Last season the Los Angeles Galaxy were already
considered old - a collection of mostly veterans at the skill positions who relied more on
experience and tactical discipline than speed or fitness to win games. It's a good formula, and the
Galaxy showed it by dominating at times and finishing the season with the Supporters' Shield before
bowing out in the semifinals.
We're only one day away from first kick and the excitement is building. The Sounders face a
tough start to the season facing both the LA Galaxy and the New York Redbulls in the same week. The
prognosis is good on our three injured players. Brad Evans and Steve Zakuani both trained on
Saturday and could be ready for either game this week.
Biker boy: Wayne Rooney scored Saturday what he described as the best goal of his career.
Let's hope the highlight reels shift into OT when the round of 16 begins today in the UEFA
Champions League (AP Photo).
*Dema Kovalenko, who finished a 13-year career with just over 20 appearances for the Galaxy in
the last couple of seasons, has confirmed what most of us had already assumed - his retirement.
Over the weekend, Bridgeview mayor Steve Landek was appointed to replace retiring State Senator
Lou Viverito. The meeting was held at Toyota Park. Landek will continue to serve as mayor of
Bridgeview.
Guillermo Rivera writes about where we are in the allocation order over at Fire
Confidential.
If reports out of Russia are to be believed --and honestly I'm not sure I believe anything written
in an alphabet with such a shocking resemblance to Wing Dings-- Dema Kovalenko is hanging up his
blood-stained boots and retiring. If you are a fan of any of the club's he's played for I think you
know the sadness I'm feeling right now.

The reaction to David Beckham's training stint with Tottenham being extended a further two weeks
while his Galaxy teammates gear up for the MLS season was about as surprising as a Dema Kovalenko
horror tackle. We knew it was coming, it was just a matter of when.
Sure enough, when the West Coast finally joined the conversation sometime after noon East Coast
time, bile exploded in Becks' specific direction.

The Los Angeles Galaxy are going "all-in" in 2011.
After falling short of the MLS Cup the last two years, the Galaxy have loaded the roster with a
number of veterans to make another serious play for the Cup in 2011. Veterans Juan Pablo Angel and
Frankie Hejduk will look to make major contributions to a potential Galaxy title run and build upon
a team that fell in the Western Conference Final last season to FC Dallas.
Major League Soccer clubs have either opened up their training camp or about too. So it is a
perfect time them for the first MLS rankings of 2011, courtesy of the MLS Soccer.
There is little surprise that the team who made the single biggest splash this offseason is
ranked number one.
