So, as is typical with AEK, we blow an early 1-0 lead and end up with a draw (today, the match
against PAS, the Cup Final, the match with BATE).
My stream today was poor quality, so I can't comment as much as I could have. But basically what
we saw throughout the match was that we had many chances, yet we only scored one of them.

We tend to follow certain former AEK players on this blog, for a variety of reasons.
Sometimes, like with Papastathopoulos, we follow them because they are a club-produced talent
that gets recruited by a bigger team in a bigger country. Sometimes, as with Dellas and
Lyberopoulos, we follow them because they were AEK institutions.

In his post-match review yesterday, Alex correctly pointed out that AEK's halftime lead of 0-3 did
not accurately reflect how the game was being played. AEK seemed to be trying to play a
possession-style passing game, but our possession was short-lived, our passing inconsistent, our
runs off the ball half-hearted or non-existent.

AEK, after beating Iraklis 1-0 at home AEK are now tied for second place with PAOK and Ergotelis.
AEK got the ball in the net early on in the first minute of the game however the goal was
dissalowed because of an offside call. Ignacio Scocco scored, his first goal in the Superleague, in

Alex is off on vacation and I've been busy at work, on my amatuer team AEK Baltimore (three games
in three days) and nursing a nasty case of Athletic Pubalgia, so we've let the blog slide a few
days. My apologies. The news has really started to pile up. AEK destroyed Turkish-side Ancaragucu
on Sunday in Austria.

Traianos Dellas has been released. Reports on the radio in Greece this morning stated that Dellas
terminated his contract with AEK, but now some press reports are coming out stating that he had
some kind of row with club chairman Demis Nikolaidis. More as it develops...

Greece, under command of Otto Rehagel played a very defensive game last night against Sweden yet it was still not enough to hold off Sweden who defeated Greece 2-0 in Salzburg, the birth place of King Otto.

The second most important football tournament in the world kicks off tomorrow. Greece, the
defending European Champions, are, once again, decided underdogs. But we are a resilient,
freedom-loving people who are able to come together and fight as more than the sum of our parts the
way only a people that have been through what [.

The BBC has a decent "where are they now" article that looks at the Greek stars of the
Euro 2004 team. For AEK fans, the article is a bit depressing. It reminds us that AEK supplied five
star players to 2004 national team squad that conquered Europe. It then slowly peels the scab back
and [...]

Back at EURO 2004 in Portugal AEK contributed to the Greek National Team with many of its star
players such as Traianos Dellas, Nikos Liberopoulos, Kostas Katsourani, Theodoros Zagorakis,
Vassilis Tsiartas, Demis Nikolaidis, Michalis Kapsis, and Vassilis Lakis. Today only Dellas
and Liberopoulos remain with AEK.

King Otto named his squad for Euro 2008 today, and AEK's Papastathopoulos did not make the final
cut. The squad contains ten players from the 2004 champions squad, including AEK's center
back Dellas and striker Lyberopoulos. Full details here.

PAO is currently tied 0-0 with Aris in the 38th minute. A draw for Aris against PAO and a win for

I really dont know what goes on with this team. One day they put on a really poor display then,
five days later, they come back and play like the champions they are. AEK played a very good game
of soccer today that could have been 4-0 in favour of AEK. Each and every player [...]

Kostenoglou will be taking his usual squad with him to the Appostolos Nikolaidis stadium. The
squad will include Macho, Moretto, Dellas, Bourbos, Arruabarrena, Papastathopoulos, Pliatsikas,
Geraldo Alves, Edson Silva Ramos, Kone, Julio Cezar, Liberopoulos, and Blanco. Georgeas and Manduca
are still not 100 percent ready.

We lined up like this: Lyberopoulos Blanco Rivaldo Edinho Toszer -Kafes Bourbos -Pilatsikas Alves
-Dellas Macho And everyone played well, even Pilatsikas who is arguably a class below the rest of
the team (though steadily improving as he gets more first team experience). At the start of
the second half, Kallon subbed in for Lyberopoulos; in the 59th minute, Ramos Silva went in for
Edinho; and in [.

On Sunday against Ergotelis we lined up like this: Lyberopoulos Blanco Rivaldo Edinho Zikos Kafes
Georgeas Bourbos Papastathopouoos Dellas Macho And we scored straight away. Kafes, who had a
brilliant game all around, drew a foul in the box. Rivaldo's resulting penalty kick easily found
net. There was some commotion on the field before the penalty kick with Ergotelis players
protesting that Kafes handled the ball right [.

We are playing well now. Â Blanco, Kallon and Edinho play very well together, with nice, tight
passing, unselfish play and killer instinct finishing. Â Nsaliwa and Zikos from the midfield, and

necessary, making runs off the ball and quickly covering [.

overall.

Everybody tied this weekend, AEK and Panathinaikos with each other and Olympiacos with a ten-man
Asteras Tripolis.Given all the turmoil that has attended our club lately (the sacking of Ferrer,
Kostenoglou testing out different line-ups and formations), this was a good result for us. We
played decent football.

Well, we play PAO Sunday at 12 noon East Coast Time. It some ways AEK and Panathinaikos are
similarly situated; we've both been eliminated from the Greek Cup and the UEFA Cup. Thus, we have
only one thing to focus on the league. In other ways, though, we are in different places.Â
Panathinaikos have [.

Yesterday's game was actually two games. There was the first half, where we completely dominated
and played some decent, if not spectacular, football, and there was the second half, where we
perhaps sensing the importance of maintaining our 0-1 lead and going home with all three points
hunkered down on defense, played some [.

Well, the game is underway and we lined up like this: Moreto Nsaliwa Dellas Papastathopoulos

my preview piece yesterday except Kostenoglou has gone with two defensive mids and one striker
where I would have put one defensive mid and two strikers.

After a weekend off due to a freak snow storm, AEK travels to Spain tomorrow to play the second

We drew with Getafe, but our equalizer came four minutes into added time, mere seconds from the
final whistle. This was a close call and does not bode well for the return fixture in Madrid
later this month. We shouldn't be surprised. Something has been wrong with AEK since the
beginning of the year.

We play Larissa F.C. tomorrow, Saturday, February 9th, at 9:45 am East Coast Time. I am very

Last time we played we beat Atromitos 2-0. That was at home and we were at full strength. Now

We face Atromitos this Saturday, probably without Dellas, Papastathopoulos and Blanco. This is
not good. There is a slight chance Papastathopoulos might be back, but it's unlikely. These
three players account for half of our core team. It will be an ugly dogfight without them.Â
Ferrer will have to put a defensive midfielder like Nsaliwa [.

It proves nothing; you know that, right? Veria F.C. was crap. We played well, but not well
enough to draw any major conclusions. Still, there were a few surprises that make me truly
hopeful about the second half of the season. The first is that Pappas had his first start of the
Greek League with AEK.

That seems to be the question on fans' minds these days. And there is no simple answer.  A
