Let's start by saying that Roberto Baronio isn't exactly a household name in Italian calcio. The
casual fan may not even know who Roberto Baronio is or what position he plays (Baronio is a classic
regista that plays in front of the defense and dictates the play. His passing skills are excellent,
especially his long passing, and he is good at set pieces).

Lazio coach Davide Ballardini has called on his players to show they are worthy of their lofty
league position when they play Juventus on Saturday.
Two consecutive victories have placed the Roman side as joint Serie A leaders with the
Bianconeri, Sampdoria and Genoa.
But this weekend's encounter in Rome should prove if Lazio have what it takes to remain in the
higher echelons of the top flight having so far come up against Atalanta and Chievo, who did not
really test Ballardini's men.

Claudio Lotito is without a doubt one of the more entertaining owners in Serie A. He talks a
mile a minute, his press conferences and interviews last forever because he likes to hear himself
talk, and also he always likes to make it known that he constructed a very good side for very
little money.

Delio Rossi, Pandev, e ora Christian Ledesma.

Big day for football in CONCACAF, the United States plays Costa Rica tonight at Estadio Ricardo

On June 16th, Italy will play their first game of the UEFA U-21 Championship 2009 vs. Serbia.
The Azzurrini find themselves in a group with Belarus, Serbia, and hosts Sweden. Italy have always
been successful at this level however they have not won the U-21 Championship since 2004. Pierluigi
Casiraghi has been unsuccessful with the Azzurrini so far since taking over from Claudio Gentile in
2006 and this is arguably his last chance.

Both sides went into this game knowing it would define their season. Both sides basically had
the exact situation. They both performed under expectations this season, and both have managers
that don't really look like they will be in charge next season. Also, because of their poor season,
both clubs were looking for a backdoor into Europe.

Siamo arrivati all'ultimo atto della Coppa Italia 08/09.

Tomorrow is a big day for Lazio and Sampdoria. Two sides who have performed under expectations
throughout the season have a chance to salvage their season by winning a trophy, and more
importantly, a place in the Europa League (I think the new name is so stupid) next season. Both
sides have not won the Coppa in a long time (Lazio haven't lifted it since 2004, Sampdoria since
1994; both sides have won it 4 times in their history).

These are dire days in Italy, as an entire nation mourns the losses from the Abruzzo earthquake
earlier this week. Hundreds of casualties and thousands of homeless people in central Italy, but as
they say in sporting terms, "the show must go on".
And what a show it was today at the Stadio Olimpico of Rome, really everything
you could desire from a tense, heart-felt Roman derby: goals, drama, and the inevitable yellow/red
cards.
