Six Sign Letters of Intent to Join Virginia Men's Soccer
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Virginia men's soccer head coach George Gelnovatch has
announced the signing of six highly-touted student-athletes to National Letters of Intent for the
2012-13 school year.

As athletes sign their letters of intent to take their game to the collegiate ranks,

Today D.C. United released the official list of commitments for their Academy players and luckily
some of these very promising players are heading to local Virginia Universities.

Washington, D.C. (January 24, 2012) – D.C. United announced today that 17 Academy players have
been called-in to participate in a U.

There will be no repeat for the United States U-18s in Northern Ireland.
The United States tied arch-rival Mexico, 1-1, on Wednesday afternoon, but the result was unable
to help the young Americans qualify for the Milk Cup final. Jesús Ruiz opened the scoring for El
Tri in the 12th minute, slotting a corner kick past goalkeeper Cody Cropper.
The U.S. U-18 men's national team began its title defense of the Milk Cup in winning fashion,
beating Israel 2-0 on Monday.
Second-half goals from Omar Salgado and Jerome Kiesewetter proved to be the difference in the
tournament opener. Salgado scored shortly after halftime while Kiesewetter netted an insurance
goal off a low cross from substitute Luis Gil in the waning moments of the match.

The 2011 Milk Cup kicks off on Monday, and so does the the U.S. U-18 men's national team's title
defense.
Led by Omar Salgado, Luis Gil and Cody Cropper, the United States will attempt to win a second
consecutive Milk Cup in Northern Ireland.
The Youth Movement
As the DC United roster of last season was dismantled and retooled it became apparent we were
amidst a rebuilding process focused around youth. The foundation of the team came from young
players such as Najar, Pontius and Jakovic and was being complimented by Davies, Kitchen and
McCarty.

Vancouver Whitecaps forward Omar Salgado and Real Salt Lake attacker Luis Gil are among the 18
players chosen to represent the United States Under-18 national team in the Milk Cup later this
month in Northern Ireland.
Chicago Fire midfielder Victor Pineda and Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jon Kempin will also
represent the United States, along with internationally based goalkeeper Cody Cropper, defender
Juan Pablo Ocegueda, midfielder Will Packwood and forward Jerome Kiesewetter.
The U.S. U-18 MNT roster is set for the annual Northern Ireland Milk Cup. Mike Matkovich will take
18 players to the prestigious tournament, a favorite of youth national teams throughout the years.
Three players are currently playing with their club at Development Academy Finals Week - Michael
Ambrose, Bryan Gallego and Boyd Okwuonu - and will have a quick turnaround before heading to
Northern Ireland.

On Monday, the Philadelphia Union Reserve team were handed their first loss of the season at the
hands of DC United. They went down 1-0 off a goal from Brandon Barklage.
One of the bright spots from the game was the debut of yet another Home Grown Hopeful: FC Delco
and Conestoga High School midfielder Mike Gonzalez.
