After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of
the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5
average, 10 perfection).

The good news for the Revolution going into Saturday's conference clash is that the Red Bulls
back four from Sunday's 4-1 drubbing in D.C. will be back on the field.
I spent much of the day yesterday reflecting on Saturday's game. What did I like? (Not much.)
What didn't I like? (Far too much.) If anything, Saturday's game showed by that there are still a
few jitters left over from the 2011 squad that made them an easy road team to beat. The fact that
the New England Revolution managed to score within 30 seconds of kick off is fairly telling of our
current defensive back line.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution supporters groups organized a walkout in the 17th
minute of Sunday night's game against the Philadelphia Union at Gillette Stadium in protest of the
so-called "Fortgate" incident. Aside from a red card to Benny Feilhaber, they didn't miss much in
the remaining 73 minutes.
As pointed out at NASN by Kelly McClain the Timbers' offensive numbers on average have started
to climb in the last few games. A lot of analysts and people who casually follow this league
probably look at the schedule and see Portland Timbers at New York and automatically write off
Portland's chances.
I want more of this tonight: Edson Buddle and Sean Franklin from last season's game winning gol
celebration.
Today's game between the Philadelphia Union and the Los Angeles Galaxy promises to be a
defensive battle. The Union have one of the top defenses in the league, quite an accomplishment for
a second year team, despite not playing with their full first-choice defense for many of their
games so far this season.
Before I decided to go with a more emotional match reaction post, I actually started writing
some thoughts about the Dynamo's 4-2 loss to the Montreal Impact. Maybe loss isn't the right word,
how about, debacle. Maybe the word doesn't matter.
Anyway, it sucked and it stings because it was so damn ugly.
Neymar showed why Europe's best all want to sign him as he inspired Santos to a 3-1 victory over
Japan's Kashiwa Reysol in a Club World Cup semi-final in Toyota.
The Libertadores Cup holders are expected to face European champions Barcelona in this weekend's
final, barring the unthinkable in Barca's semi-final against Qatar's Al Sadd on Thursday.
England played a defensive game against the Ukraine tonight, and were a little lucky to win, with
a Wayne Rooney goal after 48 minutes, but in truth it was a poor performance from the England side.
Wayne Rooney after heading in England's winner And with France surprisingly losing to Sweden
2-0,  with good goals from  Ibrahimovic and Larsson,  England rather easily [.
Davide Santon has been voted our Man of the Match, in the 2-0 defeat by Manchester City. Davide
Santon in action yesterday This lad has come along in leaps and bounds this year, and while
he has always been good going forward, his defensive game has improved significantly under Aan Â
Pardew.
Recaps from Saturday's draw in Dallas from PSP (we were there!), MLSsoccer.com, the Union

In this postgame quote sheet, Peter Nowak says,
"We talked about how we are going to start the game and we wanted to continue to play how we
did against New York, but they got the goal in the seventh minute which basically cuts you off
immediately.
Before we get to the news I thought I'd take a second to introduce myself. I'm Timm and I'm sure
you've seen me around the in the comments - and I now have the privilege to be one of the
contributors to Sounder At Heart. I'm a ECS member and a supporter that is behind enemy lines. Yes,
I live in Oregon though I'm about 45 minutes to the south of said city.
The Major League Soccer season's crescendo was a flat one, but there was barely a pause to
reflect upon it before the "draft season" got under way and speculation on Beckham's future
overshadowed his club's glorious present. All that, plus the US's first multi-goal performance
under Klinsmann in this month's State of the States.
The Portland Timbers take on the LA Galaxy this Saturday at the Home Depot Center, looking to
stop their losing streak at three games. In order to do so they will need to improve their game in
many areas over the previous weeks.
The Timbers will have the benefit of matching up against one of the worst defenses in MLS right
now, a team that has given up more goals per match than any other US-based team.
1. The latest of a long line of must-win games, we had to yet again overcome playing a team that
had no other game plan than to stick all their players behind the ball and hope we couldn't break
them down. It doesn't half make for a dull game of football. We got the three points though to put
us eight point clear but we did make hard work of it.

Each week during the season I'll post an updated MISL Power Ranking which will be based off the
cumulative results and current strength of each team. Here's my rankings heading into Week 10.
#1 Milwaukee Wave (8-1, 1st Place MISL Central Division)
Milwaukee dropped their first game of the season to the Baltimore Blast on Saturday afternoon by a
score of 9-4.
The playoffs are upon us and the latest edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show podcast
is here to get you ready as the Philadelphia Union prepare to take on the Houston Dynamo this
Sunday at PPL Park, for the team's first-ever playoff game.
KYW's Greg Orlandini and cohost Eli Pearlman-Storch of the Philly Soccer Page
are joined this week by Kerith Gabriel of the Philadelphia Daily News and Press of
Atlantic City writer James Clark.
If every match goes this way, we would all live a very long happy life. However, football and
Arsenal in particular are not generally that nice to us or our hearts. Today, Arsenal won without
much difficulties and without being overworked. There's one or two moments but hardly constituted
as too much of a worry compared to other matches in the past.
November: Trees are barren, early morning frosts, gloves and scarves, rain, the smell of
gunpowder and Arsenal angst as we stutter  not my favourite month. Last season  lived up to
expectation with 4 losses from the 8 November games  our record is not good 2009
Pl 6 L2, Â 2008 Pl 8 L3 D 1.
We start this morning with Arsene Wenger saying pretty much what I said yesterday. There is
nothing more important than the next game. At his press conference yesterday, he said:
What we are hopeful for and what we can achieve is to win our next game.
I'm going to change up this review from what Ryan Gates usually provides after each Timbers
game. Honestly, it just doesn't fit my style to write like that. Instead, I'll be providing more
broad based discussion on the game, how the team played, and how I feel that will translate into
the Gold Cup Final on Saturday.
The 2012 Cascadia Cup competition begins this weekend with a very different set of expectations
than were present a year ago. Seattle and Vancouver have two of the best defenses in the Western
Conference right now, Seattle having allowed only four goals so far. Vancouver barely eke out the
rest of the pack with 11 goals allowed, albeit in fewer matches than San Jose and RSL.

Days have passed since FC Barcelona were eliminated from the Champions League by Chelsea FC. In

A stunning free-kick from record-setter Xavi Hernandez saw Barcelona return to their winning
ways, dispatching undermanned Granada 1-0 in the Estadio Los Carmenes.
After last weekend's draw to Sevilla, manager Pep Guardiola decided to shake things up, making
five alterations to his lineup.
A trip to a usually hostile Reebok Stadium probably isn't the ideal way to return from and
international break, one which United headed into with great momentum, having put 8 past an abysmal
Arsenal side and 3 past Spurs.
From the side that did so well last season, Bolton missed Elmander, Sturridge, Steinsson,
Holden, Muamba and Lee, bringing in City loanee Boyata as an uncomfortable right back,
Klasnic/Tuncay/N'Gog as poor replacements for Elmander and Sturridge, both of whom left Bolton
without a penny coming in, and Eagles, Reo Coker and Mark Davies filling in for injured or unfit
players in the midfield.
What can I say about this match that hasn't already been said? Japan defeats the home team, and
forces all of us to throw away the basic structure of our narratives about this world cup, in which
everyone was supposed to be fighting for the chance to lose to Germany.

Manchester City wing back, Alexander Kolaraov, flush down the recent rumors linking the player
with a return to Serie A as he himself stated his wish of staying with the rich premier league cup
next season, especially with Champions League football coming.
Kolarov even revealed that he hasn't received any contacts from other clubs and should there's
even an offer, the player insisted that continuing his journey at the City of Manchester is the
player's number one priority.
