Fare ye weel, Davie Weir.
The Scottish Football Blog has often been facetious about the Methuselah of Scottish football.
Unfair that. Davie Weir was playing at the highest level in Scotland in his 40s and I'm often too
lazy to play dominoes in my 30s.
Perhaps unsurprisingly Weir and Rangers will part company this week.

Given the current penchant for the two-footed Exocet-style challenge as favoured by Glen Johnson
among others, here is Pies' pick of the XI worst, shin-splintering, sinew-shredding,
ligament-twanging, bone-flaking tackles to ever take place on a Premier League pitch (that we could
find corresponding videos for).
Lee McCulloch grabbed the only goal of the game as Rangers claimed victory over Liverpool in a
friendly at Ibrox.
Both sides used the fixture to give game time to players who have not featured as regularly as
others so far in their respective domestic campaigns.
Skipper David Weir made only his second appearance of the season for Rangers after spending the
early part of the campaign sidelined through injury, while Matt McKay was handed his first start.
Danny Wilson's move to Liverpool last summer was a mistake, at least that is according to former
Rangers captain Richard Gough.
The young defender was signed in July 2010 by then Reds manager Roy Hodgson, having won the
Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year award for his exploits at Ibrox the previous season.
Rangers are expected to step up their efforts to take their former player Danny Wilson back on loan
from Liverpool, to strengthen the defence of the Ibrox side.
Manager Ally McCoist has been keen to secure the return of another former Ibrox hero, Carlos
Cuellar, but the club has admitted that there will be no move for the injured Aston Villa player in
this transfer window.
Congratulations to former University of Evansville great David Weir in helping lead Rangers to win
their third consecutive Scottish Premier League title.
Weir, an All-American with the Purple Aces two decades ago, has been the Rangers' captain since
joining them three years ago. The 41-year old was the SPL Player of the Year in 2009-10.
Veteran Rangers captain David Weir says he would love to take up any
offer from Everton manager David Moyes to join the coaching team at Goodison Park.
But the 40-year-old says he will not decide on whether to continue playing until the end of the
season.
Moyes told BBC Scotland that he would love Weir to join his backroom staff.
Now we know.
We suspected, surmised, accepted. But now we've had the official unveiling.
Ally McCoist will lead Rangers into the 2011/12 SPL season.
Probably. Unless someone comes along to buy the club and decides that this is no time for a
novice.
"No time for a novice.
