It all started on September 19th in the year 2000. David Trezeguet, a high profile 40 billion
lira signing from the then French champions AS Monaco, scored his first goal for Juventus an 83rd
minute winner against Panathinaikos in the Champions League.
Nine years later, the 32-year-old Frenchman, who spent his formative years in Argentina watching
his father finish his own playing career, celebrated his 167th goal for the Bianconeri, making him
the most prolific foreign goalscorer in the club's history.

The Republic of Ireland will take on France in the World Cup play-offs which commence next
weekend in what will be an intriguing clash between the shrewd Italian coach Giovanni Trapattoni
and the much-maligned French national team coach Raymond Domenech.
Trapattoni's record speaks for itself with successful spells almost everywhere he coached yet
his most notable job prior to taking over Ireland ended in miserable failure with the Azzurri.

If you thought that Napoli's injury time brace, which handed the club a 2-2 draw at home to AC
Milan, was its comeback of the week, think again. The underperforming Naples outfit has suddenly
brought an end to an indifferent spell by stunning Serie A contenders Juventus 3-2 this evening,
and that too away from home.

The Great Serie A Game posts continue with Roma-Juve 2003/2004. The 2003/2004 season was an
interesting one. Milan, fresh from a Champions League victory and with some new young Brazilian
player named Kaka, were dominating Serie A. While Marcello Lippi's Juve looked to
be favorites to combat the Rossoneri to the Scudetto, it was not the case.

A lot of wild stories on the wire the other day involving international soccer.
And why not? It's international week.
First off, Belgium and Everton star Marouane Fellaini is having an interesting spat with his
national team. Apparently that wisdom teeth surgery he had a while back was not given with the good
graces of his country.

Domenech reflects on his French future
With France's spot at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa still unclear, the FFF must surely be
pointing the finger of blame at the manager rather than the squad. Â Another draw last week leaves
France chasing the leaders in the table and looking over their shoulders at who may take their
place in the playoffs.

Looking at the Serie A table going into last weekend, the Lazio/Juventus matchup presented the
most promise. Each team had won its first two games. Would this game produce beautiful, flowing
football that might serve to entice a Serie A neophyte? In a word, no.
The first half was almost completely forgettable.

As we predicted few weeks ago on these pages, Juventus got off to a great start in Serie A. Two
wins are a clear sign of the difference in the quality between Inter and Juventus has been
significantly reduced and the biggest Italian club might regain domination in Serie A.

September 1 2009 should be a date all Liverpool fans remember. Transfer deadline day was the time
when it became abundantly clear that cash really is in short supply at Anfield.
Rafa Benitez had of course hinted as much in recent weeks as he played down the chances of making
any more acquisitions before the window slammed shut.

Afterward, Donovan was dismissive of Rossi, saying, "If the guy doesn't want to play for us,

Because Bosnia might be in the same group in the World Cup.
