Thanks to the hyper-sensitive times in which we live, the shirt worn by striker David Trezeguet
during France's 1998 World Cup win over Brazil has been destroyed by airport officials.
Les Bleus fan Olivier Demolis bought the shirt off eBay for over £6,000 (€7,350 to be
precise), only for customs workers to burn the shirt to cinders on it's arrival in France after
mistaking it for a counterfeit knock-off, due to a stretch of dodgy-looking stitching.
We've always found David Trezeguet to be quite an interesting character in football a bloke who loves his tango thanks to his Argentinean roots and has a taste for French nationalism. A citizen of the world, that is!
Anyway, Trezeguet, who is ranked fourth among Juventus' all-time top goalscorers at 171 goals, is now plying his trade at the club he supported as a boy, River Plate, in the Argentinean second division.
David Trezeguet (front) in training for new club River Plate
Argentinian giants River Plate, who are currently playing in their country's second division
following last season's shock relegation, have showed their ambition to get back into the top
flight by signing former France international David Trezeguet.
Argentine fútbol has been suffering. The country's national team failed to live up to the hype
in Copa America this past summer, while Brazil's emergence as an economic power has spurred the
Brasileiro to new financial and competitive heights.
If Germany is to defeat Italy in the Euro 2012 semifinals and advance the the tournament finale,
they might have to do it without one of their key midfielders.
Bastian Schweinsteiger is questionable for Germany's semifinal bout on Thursday against Andrea
Pirlo and the rest of the Azzurri with an ankle injury.
The Offsides has more on the rumors linking 32-year-old Colombian forward Tressor Moreno to the
Union. But this report says Moreno has signed with Brazilian club Bahia following the failure of
negotiations with the Union. (You can read a crappy translation here.)
The Brotherly Game looks at five FC Delco products who are headed to Division 1 schools.
Diego Milito's quadruple known as a 'poker' against Palermo was a rare moment, in fact it was only
the sixth time it's happened in ten years, but with Italy's final friendly before Euro 2012 looming
it focused the eyes on the Azzurri's frontline. The Argentinian's four-step sent him into a comic
book group that features ‘the little plane', Vincenzo Montella, twinkle-toes Christian.
It has been an up and down season for Juventus striker Alessandro Matri. There have been times
where it seems that every time he touches the ball it ends up in the back of the net while at other
times there have long absences of his name on the score sheet. When he is hot, he has been praised
uncontrollably, even once being compared as the next David Trezeguet.
Talks between Manchester City and AC Milan suddenly broke down after Alexander Pato refused a
move to Paris-St. Germain. Milan needed the 20-25 million pound transfer fee from the Brazilian
international's move to have any chance of raising the necessary cash.
With reports coming through suggesting that Spurs have been quoted a fee in the region of £31m
for Fernando Llorente, could Harry Redknapp follow the lead of other premiership managers and take
a look at free agent David Trezeguet?
The 33-year old French international is available on a free following his departure from
relegated Spanish side Hercules in the summer after scoring 12 goals in 31 appearances in La
Liga.
Good Afternoon. I guess if you're reading this you're not one of the chosen ones. No matter, as we
sinners have RBNY football to look forward to tonight. Before that, however, let's get to some
stuff from the past week.
Former French International Robert Pires to RBNY? Well, it seems the former Arsenal man, currently
plying his trade at Aston Villa, told a UK publication that Thierry Henry personally called him
about coming to RBNY.
Liverpool is reportedly considering a move for Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud as they bid to
solve their profligacy in front of goal.
The Reds have managed just 1.2 goals per Premier League game this season, only scoring more than
two goals in a match on two occasions so far.
Their top league goalscorer, Luis Suarez, only has five goals, and is of course currently serving
an eight match suspension.
According to a report from Goal.com, Premier League newcomers Swansea City could
succeed in an audacious attempt to sign former World Cup winner David Trezeguet. The French striker
is available on a free transfer after leaving Spanish side Hercules, and the Premier League could
be an attractive destination.
Oxlade-Chamberlain! Sneijder! Trezeguet! It's Monday's Football Spy video
Darren Lewis is back in the Football Spy hotseat today with all the latest news, rumours and
gossip. Today he has the latest on Arsenal's pursuit of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wesley Sneijder's
potential Manchester United switch and where French World Cup winner David Trezeguet is
heading.
Zlatan, in a bit of self-promotion stop it for his new book, did an interview with Gazzetta
which was published this morning. It doesn't disappoint. The Fiver offers a few excerpts, while the
rest can be read here in Italian with a magic password (requires registration).
He, Mourinho and Balotelli should probably have a talkshow when all is said and done.
Alex Livesey/Getty Images (Bleacher Report) Lionel Messi has stolen the Champion's League spotlight
this year as he leads the competition with 11 goals as Pep Guardiola's Barcelona team heads into
the final against Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson.
Messi's two goals against archrival Real Madrid in the first leg of their eventual triumph were
what allowed the Blaugrana to advance, and he will be keen to continue his success this year and
hopefully help his side raise the Champions League Trophy once more.

With joy in the air and consumerism driving television right now, my dreams are of big purchases
for the Seattle Sounders. A little girl may want two front teeth, I'd rather two amazing fullbacks,
possibly one as a youth DP. I know enough that these are just dreams, the reality is more likely a
player like Heiner Mora and Ever Alvarado.
The script reads likea straight-to-video sequel of the Robert De Niro/Edward Norton movie
The Score: Customs officials have priceless French artifact in their possession, only they
don't quite know the true identity of what they hold, readying it for destruction.
Only David Trezeguet's shirt from the 1998 World Cup Final, though valuable, isn't exactly
priceless and this one is missing the elaborate heist aspect in which the artifact is saved from
the fire so that it can be stolen.
