According to David Prentice at Liverpool Echo, Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez admitted that he can sign one more playing without being forced to sell anybody. Benitez said,

"We have a plan ... We can sign one more player if necessary, but that's without any players leaving.

UPDATE: According to Liverpool's official website, Liverpool have agreed to sign Portsmouth defender Glen Johnson. A statement on the site said,

"Liverpool FC confirmed this evening that they had reached an agreement with Portsmouth Football Club and with Glen Johnson for the transfer of the player to Anfield.

UPDATE: According to ESPN Soccernet, Chelsea have matched Liverpool's £17.5million bid for Portsmouth defender Glen Johnson. The decision now will come down to Johnson. Portsmouth executive chairman Peter Storrie said,

"The matter will come to a conclusion at the beginning of next week.
