Something is happening behind the scenes that Pompey that is worth a great deal more
headscratching than what it's generating at the moment. The club's present footballing situation is
a nightmare, and after rumours that players and staff have not been paid, the financial situation
cannot be much better.

International breaks and Friday nights, there is
nothing that will make a fantasy Premier League manager twitch faster...
Idle hands are the devil's playground, if I am anywhere near my computer after having an adult

As the nights draw in and leaves fall and while hedgehogs prepare to be burnt alive in
bonfires there is one thing that begins to blossom — transfer rumours. Having said that, transfer
rumour seem to be more evergreen than biannual.
The latest rumour involves midfielder Camel Meriem, currently at AS Monaco, who
is thought to have gained the interest of Megson.

Now that the stadiums have all cleared out lets take a look at last week's results.
Burnley continued their magical season of 2009 with another impressive win over Sunderland.Â
David Nugent (no relation to Ted) scored two of the club's goals leading the club to the 3-1 win.Â
Arsenal impressed once again with a ridiculous offensive output beating Wigan 4-0 including two
Vermaelen goals.

A look at the winners and losers in this weekend's EPL games.
Winners
Manchester United
It was a tough run of games against Arsenal, Spurs and Man City and United came out of it with
maximum points, despite not reaching the levels they have been at in the last two years. With a
easier schedule coming up, United don't have a really tough game until they visit Liverpool on
October 25.

A David Nugent sighting
In the pre-season, I predicted he'd pick up about 7 goals if he got 30+ starts as Pompey's leading
striker this season, but after beating up his own teammate defender Marc Wilson, Nugent was shipped
out of Portsmouth and landed on loan at Burnley.
Portsmouth are winless in six - without any credible offensive threat - while Nugent made his debut
today for Burnley scoring the game-winning goal (a brilliant header) and then adding a second (a
brilliant left-footed strike into the upper corner).

completing his recovery from a cartilage operation.

Hard to argue with this Daily Mail list was probably surprisingly easy to assemble!
10. Keith Curle (3 caps, 1992)
Never an obvious candidate for international football, Curle had spent his formative years on the
boggy pitches of the lower leagues.
Graham Taylor's scatter-gun approach to selection saw the Manchester City player appearing at
right-back, only to be replaced by the left-midfielder Andy Sinton.

What the hell is going on at Portsmouth? Despite Sulaiman Al Fayed passing the fit and proper
persons test that the Premier League subjected him to, he's still not completed the takeover at
Fratton Park. The fans of Pompey deserve better than this, it's not fair and it's getting beyond a
joke.

For all the transfer talk this summer, two pieces of business have really caught my eye.
Firstly, Glenn Johnson to Liverpool, and secondly Peter Crouch to Tottenham. Both players moved
from the South Coast overachievers Portsmouth, leaving the boys from Fratton Park dangerously thin
on first team players.

The (fantasy) Premier League season is less than three weeks away, and with Peter Crouch officially
sealing his move from Portsmouth to Tottenham, Pompey have a striker position up for grabs.
The primary contenders are Kanu (too old), John Utaka (too streaky and probably on his way out),
and David Nugent - who scored a hat trick today in pre-season.
