Freiburg's Papiss Demba Cisse joins the Magpies for a reported £10m. Newcastle now sports a
Senegalese flavour to their team. The new no 9 joins countrymen Demba Ba and Cheikh Tiote, both
enjoying outstanding Premiership seasons. All three are at the ACN, so fans will get to see him
next month depending on how Senegal do in that competition.
Etoile have never been everyone's favorite cup of tea. A bunch of French journeymen pros parachuted
into the tropics in the hope of kick starting their stagnant careers?
Since they arrived in 2010 the club have been involved in controversy after controversy, much of it
of their own making.

1. Newcastle is no longer a Northern Rock- There was always something distinctly strange about
Newcastle's streak of defensive proficiency. Kevin Keegan must have been turning in his commentary
booth. David Ginola was probably banging his head...

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has played in many tough games over the last 12 years, but there's
one particular game right at the start of his senior career that he classifies as one of the
'hardest' times he's ever had on a football pitch.
The game in question was Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Spurs at White Hart Lane in December 2008.

Liverpool's 4-3 win against Newcastle United at Anfield in 1996 It remains a seminal game in
English football, full of end-to-end action and utter drama.

The White Hart Lane Faithful has been blessed throughout the years with some of the best wingers
to grace the British and world game.
Since I've been a fan, we've had the likes of Chris Waddle, David Ginola and Darren Anderton
hogging the touchline, dropping a shoulder and producing a moment of brilliance or a cross which
has brightened a dull winter evening.
The brief furore surrounding Mario Balotelli's fluffed backheel and subsequent substitution by
Roberto Mancini left the public divided. Was this just the latest indication of a player on the
verge of a mental breakdown or a manager over-reacting to a bit of fun in a pre-season
knockabout?
There's little need to wade further into that debate.
Before anyone says "WTF happened?"
Man Utd's team cobbled together the youth brigade and a few veterans with Fabien Barthez
installed as custodian in a match organized by Pascal Olmeta for his children's charity. Tom
Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, and Phil Jones with veterans Park Ji Sung and Patrice
Evra gave a pretty decent account of themselves in the first half against an Olympique Marseilles
boasting their regular starters.
It's not surprising that Newcastle have been targeting France for some of their new players this
summer. French Football Academy Clairfontaine Newcastle have had a number of good buys in France
over the years, including wingers David Ginola, Laurent Robert, Charles N'Zigbia and defender
Sebastian Bassong, to name just four of the fifteen signings [.
Following on from my end of the season thoughts, and given that posters and flyers all over NYC
are declaring Doomsday this Saturday, around 6pm, I thought I should sum up the best and worst of
the entire history of football, dating back to when I started watching and including only
games that I have seen.
While we've looked at classic encounters from the past between Tottenham and some of our recent
opponents, the forthcoming fixture between Spurs and Birmingham doesn't really conjure up too many
memories of any kind.
While Tottenham did travel to St Andrews on the way to the 1967 FA Cup final, recent memory
could only recall a freezing night in the mid-1980's where Spurs defeated a Birmingham side by two
goals to nil.
Gareth Bale becomes the fourth Spurs player to win the PFA Player of the year prize, Pat Jennings,
Clive Allen, David Ginola and now Gareth Bale. Arsenal player, England player and full time sleaze
bag Wilshire won the Young Player award.
