Sir Alex Ferguson Stand
Ahead of kick-off against Sunderland, the game we were celebrating Sir Alex Ferguon's 25th year in
charge, David Gill claimed we would be marking the occasion in a historic and unprecedented way. I
thought getting the manager to say a few words before kick-off was hardly worth the build up Gill
was giving it, but whatever.
Manchester United chief executive David Gill is to lead an immediate financial review at Old
Trafford as the club's owners, the Glazer family, take steps to assess the ramifications of a
potential £20million shortfall in prize-money following the club's group stage elimination from
the Champions League.

Following the 25th anniversary celebrations last week, Gill admitted today that he dreads the
day that he will have to replace Sir Alex Ferguson and had said the search for a successor has yet
to begin.
One thing is clear, that the new manager, whenever he may come, will have to follow Sir Alex
Ferguson in running the club the Manchester United way

On October 19th 2010, Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed to the world's press that Wayne Rooney wanted
to leave the club. Just months after the player claimed he wanted to see out the rest of his career
with the club, he decided that he needed to move to a club that matched his ambition.
"I met with David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking
about the future squad," Rooney said the following day.
Rival clubs have distanced themselves from Liverpool's demand for more cash from television rights

football.
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre said the bigger clubs should get a greater share of the £1.

With Dimitar Berbatov seemingly behind Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez in
pecking order, there have been suggestions that the Bulgarian will be on his way out of the club
this summer.
Berbatov has just one year remaining on his current deal, with the option for the club to extend
it by one year.
United fans are waking up to the news that the club has officially ended their interest in signing
Wesley Sneijder. It brings to an end weeks of speculation about the Inter Milan star and it is a
bitter blow to Ferguson who knew the importance of making what would have been a crucial signing -
one that according to several respected commentators could have ensured a 20th league title.
When one thinks of Manchester United, Sir Alex almost immediately comes to mind. He represents,
passion, pride, intellect, desire and most of all - winning. For most United fans, the idea of
the Red Devils being coached by none other than the Scot is just simply unthinkable. Since 1986,
Sir Alex's tenure with the club has been rich in great achievements featuring some of the best
players ever.
David Gill has confirmed that there's nothing new to report in relation to Manchester United's
interest in signing Wesley Sneijder. United's CEO used the word "dead" in response to questions
from the media about the Inter Milan star ahead of tonight's final US tour fixture with Barcelona.
The transfer merry-go-round looks set to continue until the end of August, but United fans will no
doubt
David Gill has today played down any suggestion that Manchester United are prepared to sell
Dimitar Berbatov. Despite both Berbatov and his agent repeatedly claiming he has no interest in
leaving United, he has been linked with moves to Italy.
With just one year remaining on his current deal, there was the belief that Berba had to agree a
new contract this summer, or leave on a free next year.
With a little over a month left in the summer transfer window, it's still uncertain whether or not
we'll see 'Manchester United have signed [insert desired target here]' at least one more time
before the window shuts. Given what David Gill said earlier this week, the chances are more in
favor of it occurring than [.
One of the worries I've had this summer is about the number of experienced players, who have
been brought up in the United way, have left the club this year. Gary Neville, Paul Scholes, John
O'Shea and Wes Brown have all moved on, whether to retirement or another club, and I can't help but
wonder whether this will have any effect on the players coming up through the ranks at the
moment.
After never replacing Roy Keane, Manchester United probably can't afford not to replace Paul
Scholes, but there is a possibility of that happening if things remain as they are. Maybe Anderson
was seen as a Scholes successor when he was bought four years ago but he hasn't made the grade.
David Gill has admitted we are looking at other players to bring in, with Wesley Sniejder, Samir
Nasri and Luka Modric amongst the players who have been linked to the club.

Less than 24 hours after Sir Alex shut up Manchester United's shop for the summer, chief exec
David Gill has gone on record as saying that the club are still in the market for 'one more player'
before the window closes in a month or so's time.
Gill told MUTV:
"We are looking at one more player to bring in, nothing is happening and nothing is imminent but
we will see what happens when we get home.

In contrary to Sir Alex Ferguson's latest statement saying that he might ended Manchester
United's transfer activity this summer, the latest reports suggested that the Red Devils are very
close in signing As Roma wantaway striker, Mirko Vucinic.
This possibility was revealed by Vucinic's agent, Alessandro Lucci, claiming that the deal could
be concluded in the next few days although no formal offer has been given by the premiership side
as just yet.
Sir Alex Ferguson over the weekend claimed that Manchester United had finished their business
for the summer.
"We are not looking at the moment but we are looking at combinations of central midfielders now
at the club," he claimed earlier this week, much to the horror of United fans.
Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that Manchester United had finished their business for the summer.
"We are not looking at the moment but we are looking at combinations of central midfielders
now at the club," he claimed earlier this week, much to the horror of United fans.
Last season, the central midfield was crying out for a new addition, with United resorting to
padding the midfield to compensate for the lacking quality.
Despite Manchester United being strongly linked with a move to Wesley Sniejder, Sir Alex
Ferguson attempted to play down the story this week. Without point blank claiming that we were not
interested, the manager wanted to distance the club from the story.
"The situation is that there is no real interest in Wesley Sneijder at this moment in time
for a lot of reasons," Ferguson said.
The Sun reports Man Utd are in advanced negotiations with Inter over Wesley Sneijder with his
signing expected within the week. David Gill, Utd's CEO did not accompany Man Utd on their US tour
staying back to tie up the last details before Sneijder is announced. Inter have settled on £35m
as his transfer fee.

Sebastien Le Toux is a team player. In interviews, he always adheres to the party line. But that
has, ever so slightly, changed. Speaking to Chris Vito of the Delco Times, Le Toux made clear his
desire to paired up top with Danny Mwanga and his doubts about being played as a midfielder.
With Danny Welbeck set to return to Manchester United following his loan spell with Sunderland
and Michael Owen having signed a new contract, rumours have been rife about Dimitar Berbatov's
future.
Earlier in the week, there were claims that the club had agreed a deal with PSG for the
Bulgarian, although these have since been refuted.
Despite taking home a record 19th league title last month, Manchester United manager Sir Alex
Ferguson has already reiterated his desire to win title 20 next May, and has challenged his players
to uphold the club's proud winning tradition.
"It doesn't go away. I'm not going to take it easy because we won the title.
According to the Daily Star, Premier League champions Manchester United are just "48
hours" away from clinching the signing of Ashley Young. Young has just one season left on his
contract with Aston Villa, and according to the report the Red Devils will pay nearly £20 million
for his services.
While the retirement of Paul Scholes shouldn't really have any bearing on the future of Luka
Modric, writers of football's gossip columns have put two and two together and come up with about
£25m for a United move for Luka at the latest count. As a result, a story that was already doing
the rounds has gained even more momentum following Scholes' announcement.
Last night, both Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill confirmed that we will be busy in the transfer
market this summer.
Does that mean busy like Obertan and Bebe? Or busy like Modric or Sneijder?
"It probably will be slightly busier than normal," Gill said. "Gary has retired
already.
In less than two weeks' time, we'll bid adieu to the finest Manchester United keeper since Peter
Schmeichel, as Edwin van der Sar will stroll off into the sunset after the (hopefully victorious)
Champions League final against Barcelona.
