A-League - only really ever had one decent foreigh coach

We've had lots of foreign coaches in the A-League - usually at inflated prices.
The Dutch duo are currently sitting bottom - the Kiwi is just ahead.
Of the ten current coaches five are foreign and only Vitaslav Lavicka and Scottish Coach Iain Ferguson are in the top half of the table - both probably have spent more money than their counterparts.

The Lustica syndrome alive and well in Australia?

The A-League is back - the Young Socceroos have played their World Cup - so how many of our young guns are flying around the league on the opening day of the season? Or come to that the next group of Young Socceroos?
Steven Lustica - hard to believe a Young Socceroo couldn't get TWO full games with the Gold Coast over the last two seasons, walks into a four year deal with Hadjuk, has played a number of crucial games in the centre mid position already.

Socceroos squad: Neil Kilkenny still with the Roos?

Socceroos squad v Wales has been announced and somewhat dishearteningly to me - given his recent performances, Bristol City's Neil Kilkenny has grabbed a place in an 18 man squad.
In a 32 World Cup possible squad maybe - but the final 18!
Kilkenny hasn't done nearly enough in my view to keep a Socceroos place after some rather shaky performances in the Asian Cup and recent friendlies.

We lost to Brazil, Uzbekistan and the tennis - Great night!

Ok I set the alarm and got up for the Matildas game - I'm still on a high from their last World Cup and with Tom Sermanni changing the whole team - why wouldn't I get up.
I thought we might beat Brazil - more later.
I fell asleep after the game only to wake to see Dylan Tombides getting sent-off for kicking an opponent - just when Jan's boys seemed to have some pressure on the ballas well - and then Teeboy gets sent-off - that's what you get when you take a 15 year old to a World Cup - great experience for him - but he can't go to the next one due to FIFA regulations not his age he's only 15 - so his 30 minutes here he'd better remember.

Any long-time soccer fan knows better than to put a lot of stock into international friendlies but, even so, fans of Ghana and Australia will be happy with their positive results against a couple of traditional European powerhouses.

A last-gasp equalizer from Asamoah Gyan gave the Black Stars a 1-1 draw against an understrengthed England side at Wembley.

"If I didn't go near post he probably would've went there because there was so much room. It was one of those decisions you had to make."
"I listen to the Nearpost poddie every week and Holger reminds of the tagline each game.

Australia have reached the 2011 AFC Asian Cup final in Qatar this weekend after crushing Uzbekistan by six goals to nil in yesterday's semi-final. Japan also went through but did it the hard way as Alberto Zaccherroni's men needed a penalty shoot out to get the better of arch-rivals South Korea.

There were six different scorers for the Socceroos as they put Uzbekistan to the sword in a game which was expected to be a lot closer than it was.

Two young Aussies knocked on my door at 3.20am this morning. Two young footballers without Fox.
And myself and their Dad cheered long and loud when Harry Kewell scored after five minutes.
It was tense as the Uzbeks had 70% of possession but the space in attack for Australia was surprising but for this supporter who's seen Bahrain, Iraq, Korea and of course Germany and others limit our opportunities over the last six months.

Harry did it in the last minute but for most of us followers of Aussie football it was Matt McKay the Aussie who roared.
Inspirational.
Technically adept, swift of foot and can he run. In the modern game you need a motor, in the international game you need an exceptional motor, especially in midfield.

Great weekend for Australian football

Aussie football is dead, long live Aussie football.
Australia produced a performance at the Asia Cup, good enough, just to sneak into the Asia Cup Semi Finals for the first time.
Sure it was close but Matt McKay, Sas Ognenovski, David Carney, Mile Jedinak and Nathan Burns were a few of the A-League made players who are not comfortable in the Green and Gold.

Australia beat Bahrain 1-0 thanks to a Mile Jedinak strike but the real concern is the wounded soldiers, some limping, some suspended, some just ageing.
Did anyone really think Harry Kewell could play six games straight?
Well he's up to three, but he's showing signs of slowing. Meanwhile Brett Emerton pulled his Croatia 2006 World Cup trick, getting booked for nothing on the eve of our most important game in a while - watch Iraq or Iran just like Italy pour down the Aussie left next game.

Australia drew 1-1 with Korea in it's crucial Asian Cup Qualifier last night.
A strong performance from the Australia team, particularly at times in the final third showed enough to suggest that the triumverate of Harry Kewell, Tim Cahill and the mobile Brett Holman could see them yet into the final.
