With the exception of January 2011, Spurs have often thrown up a surprise at the fag end of a
transfer window but it's doubtful as to whether any Tottenham fans would have woken up this morning
expecting Louis Saha to be wearing a Lilywhite shirt at the end of the day.
The chain of events seems to have sparked off by Rangers' acceptance of Everton's bid for Nikica
Jelavic which left Saha, who was already struggling at Goodison, surplus to requirements.
For season after season Wigan Athletic has overcome the difficulties of remaining in top flight
English football. The success of this fairytale story has heavily relied upon chairman Dave Whelan.

I see my place in the centre
Hello and I hope you're having a super Saturday. There's Arsenal today and there can't be
anything bad about that. Well, not if we win the game anyway. Today sees us visiting the DW Stadium
to face Wigan, a team mired in the relegation zone. After the sacking of Steve Bruce at Sunderland,
it would be fair to say that Roberto Martinez will be slightly worried about his position.
Outrage reigned last month when the idea of removing promotion and relegation from England's top
flight was discussed.
The Guardian reported Richard Bevan, chief executive of the League Managers Association, as
saying:
"There are a number of overseas-owned clubs already talking about bringing about the avoidance of
promotion and relegation in the Premier League, If we have four or five more new owners, that could
happen.
They may have suffered eight defeats on the bounce before – on two occasions in fact – but this
latest nightmare run could prove terminal for Wigan's Premier League hopes.
Their latest defeat, at Wolves on Sunday, left them bottom of the Premier League without a win
since August. Yes, it is only November, with plenty of football still to be played, and Wigan have
always being among the favourites in the relegation betting in their seven year stay in the top
flight to date, but the options available to boss Roberto Martinez and chairman Dave Whelan appear
limited.
The shock on their faces was there for everyone to see. From Conor Sammon's look of pure
surprise after netting the equalizer against West Ham on the season's final day, to Roberto
Martinez's delirious celebrations after Charles N'Zogbia's stoppage time winner, and the subsequent
final whistle, Wigan somehow seemed to have cheated death during the dramatic climax of last year's
edition of the Barclays Premier League.

Disaster for Keys and Gray as theatre tour cancelled
Dave Whelan's ill-advised comments on Premier League racism, in which he advised black players
to "just get on with it" if abused, weren't his only bizarre utterance of the weekend. How did the
former JJB Sports boss and Conservative Party backer respond to his side's eighth consecutive
defeat, which leaves them bottom of the Premier League?
Dave Whelan: Black players should "get on with it"
"You know I think the players who come and complain sometimes, they're a little bit out of
order," said the Wigan chairman

Liverpool owner John W Henry has dismissed reports that foreign owners are keen to scrap Premier
League relegation as "complete nonsense".
League Managers' Association (LMA) chief executive Richard Bevan claimed earlier this week that the
English top-flight's American and Asian power holders have discussed the possibility of ending
relegation to the Championship, claiming that "particularly American owners without doubt" are keen
on the concept.

Are these two guilty of fowl play?
As you've no doubt heard, according to the head of the League Managers Association, a few of the
Premier League's foreign owners have been agitating for the concept of relegation from the top
flight to be scrapped in favour of an uber-conservative system that keeps all 20 clubs (though
which 20 that would be is anybody's guess) and their respective bank accounts safe and sound snug
as a bug in a proverbial rug.
Wigan chairrman David Whelan has attacked Liverpool's demand for more TV cash, saying that such
a move would kill the heart and soul of football.
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre said yesterday the bigger clubs in the Premier League
should get a greater share of the £1.4billion overseas TV cash, instead of the current arrangement
where the revenue is shared equally between all 20 clubs.
It was always a risk for Liverpool to stick their head above the parapet and suggest Premier League
clubs should negotiate their own TV rights.
The proposal – like the deal currently used in Spain – would allow Liverpool to try and cash in
on their worldwide appeal, rather than coming as part of a complete 20-club package that we have at
present.
Liverpool's TV rights idea is scandalous Dave Whelan
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan says Liverpool's call for clubs to sell their own television rights
would 'kill off half the Premier League'.

Government Sports Minister Hugh Robertson has publicly rejected Liverpool FC's call for top clubs
to be able to negotiate their own overseas TV rights. He joins a growing chorus of dissenters,
including Chelsea FC and Wigan, whose Chairman Dave Whelan yesterday called Ian Ayre's comments on
the subject 'diabolical'.

Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre said yesterday the bigger clubs in the Premier League
should get a greater share of the £1.4billion overseas TV cash, instead of the current arrangement
where the revenue is shared equally between all 20 clubs.
Rival clubs have distanced themselves from Liverpool's demand for more cash from television rights
- with one top-flight chairman claiming the move would "kill the heart and soul" of English
football.
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre said the bigger clubs should get a greater share of the £1.
Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan has launched a vehement attack against Ian Ayre and Liverpool for
proposing that top clubs should get a bigger piece of the overseas TV revenue pie; and to be
honest, I can definitely see his point. Whelan's angry outburst came on the same day that Chelsea
publicly reaffirmed its commitment to the current Premier League revenue model, thus distancing

Now then, now then, as a wise old scholar once said. Well, I say wise. You have to
wonder about the cunning of a man whose favourite indulgences include highly-flammable daywear and
smoking cigars the size of bicycle pumps. He could probably choose his photo ops better, too. Yes,
that's Frank Bruno.
They escaped by the skin of their teeth last season, but for Wigan Athletic there has been
little to get excited about this summer and there remains the distinct possibility of another long,
hard winter ahead for a club that has, over the last few seasons, battled against all odds to keep
hold of this most unexpected of Premier League places.
Liverpool is preparing a bid for Wigan Athletic midfielder James McCarthy after a lack of progress
in his contract talks with the Latics, according to The Daily Mirror.
As exclusively revealed by Goal.com back in May, the Anfield club is interested in bringing in the
Ireland international to continue their policy of building a squad based on young British talent.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish wants Wigan's Colombian star Hugo Rodallega but will have to pay
£9million to get him.
Dalglish is keen to bring in the powerful attacker to give Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez some
top-class support as the Kop aim to get back on the glory trail this season
Rodallega has impressed Dalglish in the past couple of years, often dazzling against the Anfield
side in games, and he thinks the South American would be a huge asset
Dalglish is looking to move out David Ngog and Milan Jovanovic as he improves the quality of his
options and he knows Suarez and Carroll will pick up injuries because of their all-action
styles
So Dalglish wants Rodallega to fill that gap and hopes Wigan will be sensible with the fee as the
25-year-old is going into the last season of his contract and can go for nothing next summer
Wigan supremo Dave Whelan values Rodallega in the £9m class, similar to winger Charles NZogbia who
is also in the same contract position and boss Roberto Martinez is backing him.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan has told interested clubs that they'll have to pay upwards of £20
million if they want Charles N'Zogbia. Liverpool and Aston Villa are the front-runners in the race
for the Frenchman, but so far have failed to meet Wigan's valuation of the player.
"I see some of the players being sold for £20m-£30m and Zoggy is better than them," Whelan
said.
Wigan and former Newcastle left winger Charles N'Zogbia has one year left on his contract, and
could leave next summer for nothing. as a free agent. Charles N'Zogbia £20 or £30M for this
player? So would you think Wigan Chairman and owner, Dave Whelan, who initially slapped a fee of
£9M on the player, [.
Liverpool target Charles N'Zogbia will be sold this summer, should a suitable offer be made, Wigan
chairman Dave Whelan has confirmed.
"We have to sell Charles N'Zogbia because he's on the last year of his contract," Whelan told
talkSPORT.
"We can't keep him if a big club comes for him and he does deserve a big club because he's that
kind of quality player.
