Twenty questions with Dave van den Bergh

American Soccer News 23 December @ 01:21 PM EDT
In the second annual installment of an interview with three FC Dallas players, I (with the help of my two kids) came up with 20 questions not really related to soccer to get to know them a little better. It seems to be fun for them and is certainly a blast for me. This version was done back on July 3 but I decided to wait until the off season started for FCD to keep the north Texas boys in the news a little longer. Click to continue reading...

The Viper's Nest 17 December @ 01:43 PM EDT
According to Soccer by Ives FC Dallas has been shopping ex-Red Bull left sided midfielder Dave van den Bergh around the league, hoping that someone will pick up his salary of nearly $250,000. Getting rid of van den Bergh has to rank as one of the most colossal mistakes of the Osorio/Agoos era. Click to continue reading...

SBI reports former Red Bull winger Dave Van Den Bergh's days as a member of the Dallas Fire FC Dallas are coming to an abrupt end.

With coach Schellas Hyndman continuing to nurture a youth movement, and perhaps to make room for an emerging Brek Shea, Van Den Bergh has been made out to be the odd man.

Philadelphia Union shops cheap

The Netminder 25 November @ 04:43 PM EDT
Two possible readings of the Philadelphia Union's expansion draft picks:
1. Several trades, allocations and discoveries are in the works.
2. The Union doesn't expect the salary cap to soar in the next collective bargaining agreement.
Peter Nowak grabbed a few solid MLS starters and intriguing prospects, though. Click to continue reading...

Expansion draft: Who's available, who's not

The Netminder 23 November @ 08:25 PM EDT
While players met on collective bargaining, many of them were left available for Philadelphia to consider for Wednesday's expansion draft.
One sidelight: MLS declared 25 players "graduated" from Generation adidas, which means they're no longer roster-protected. That doesn't leave many current players in the program. Click to continue reading...

SBI's Friday Free Kicks: What about Shalrie, where will Schelotto go, and more

Soccer By Ives 20 November @ 02:07 PM EDT

Landon Donovan was named the 2009 MLS Most Valuable Player on Thursday, and while it is tough to argue against awarding the U.S. national team star for his performance this season, the MVP results still raised a glaring question.

What about Shalrie Joseph?

It isn't a question so much about choosing between Joseph and Donovan, which is a subjective debate that has supporters on both sides.

Once again, it all comes down to RSL

Colorado Soccer Now | News and commentary about soccer in Colorado 19 October @ 02:38 AM EDT

When the Major League Soccer schedule was released many months ago, the first game that stood out was the last one: Saturday, Oct. 24, at Real Salt Lake.

RSL knocked the Rapids out of the playoffs (and put itself in) in the final minute of the final game of 2008. And the league set up a similar showdown by pairing the two in the 2009 finale.

Update: Dallas at Galaxy

100 Percent Soccer 12 September @ 10:44 PM EDT

Galaxy 0 Dallas 1

Two free kicks in quick succession from 20 yards out (the second due to a David Beckham handball) has given Dallas an early eighth minute lead. Dave van den Bergh's shot squeezed through the Galaxy wall and goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts was fooled by the slight deflection

Blame Galaxy defender Gregg Berhalter for the goal: it was his disgraceful hack from behind on the speedy Jeff Cunningham, already giving the Galaxy defense fits, that led to the initial free kick.

MLS Goal of the Week Nominees

Jared Montz’s Weblog 25 August @ 10:31 AM EDT

My vote is going to Dave van den Bergh because I am a big fan of using the outside of your foot (when it is on to do so). I thought his shot was 1st class and from a very tough angle and it needed that spin on it to stay out of the reach of the keeper.

You can officially vote for MLS Goal of the Week on MLSnet.
