Landon Donovan was named the 2009 MLS Most Valuable Player on Thursday, and while it is tough to
argue against awarding the U.S. national team star for his performance this season, the MVP results
still raised a glaring question.
What about Shalrie Joseph?
It isn't a question so much about choosing between Joseph and Donovan, which is a subjective
debate that has supporters on both sides.

Who will Dallas protect this year? (Getty Images)
With the expansion draft being next week I have to pull in some two-a-days for my expansion
draft lists. Earlier today we looked at DC United's roster and who could be protected or not not
this afternoon I want to turn our attention to FC Dallas.

Major League Soccer will be announcing its 2009 MLS Best XI later this afternoon and while some
of the picks are easy to make, some others will be very difficult.
Picking this year's forwards was especially tough, with a half dozen worth candidates for the
Best XI nod.

Here's your end of the MLS regular season former Wizards, more and more former Wizards seasons are
ending as the majority of those players play in spring-fall leagues.

season.
Taylor Graham - Seattle Sounders FC - Did not dress in Seattle's 2-1 win over Dallas.

Most former Wizards were back in action this weekend. We're almost done with the regular season for
MLS, meaning some players will be dropping off soon. The USL season is now completely done as
Montreal are the Champions. I've also found two more former Wizards plying their trade in Trinidad.
Both Gary Glasgow and Anthony Noriega are playing for United Petrotrin of the Trinidad Pro League.

It's been a fantastic season in the US in 2009. Major League Soccer has done itself proud,
providing some superb entertainment and more than enough controversy. And now there's just one game
to go and the competition for the final playoff spots is at fever pitch. Here's your roundup from
Week 31.
Outside shot
Real Salt Lake got off to a great start to the week, defeating
New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.

So long, farewell &Â good bye. This coming Saturday, October 24th will officially be the very
last time that this club (MetroStars & Red Bull NY) in the NYC metropolitan area & US Soccer will
call home. This famed stadium named after the NFL team that plays their pointy ball seasons also
shares it with the other football league in the American first division.

When the Major League Soccer schedule was released many months ago, the first game that stood
out was the last one: Saturday, Oct. 24, at Real Salt Lake.
RSL knocked the Rapids out of the playoffs (and put itself in) in the final minute of the final
game of 2008. And the league set up a similar showdown by pairing the two in the 2009 finale.

A week with not many former Wizards having games, as once again we have World Cup qualifiers going
on around the world. With that, not many former Wizards got games this past week. Here's your
former Wizards update.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Started and played 90 minutes in Toronto's 1-1 draw with San Jose.

There was one match on Wednesday night in Major League Soccer as FC Dallas traveled to face the
San Jose Earthquakes. It was a must win for Dallas to keep their playoff hopes alive. Here's a
recap of the match along with video highlights.

Another week with your former Wizards update. The USL season is almost over with the finals coming
up this next week. The MLS season as well is starting to get close to the end of the season. We do
have a first time appearance for Chris Konopka as he made his debut for Sporting Fingal.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Toronto did not play this week.

Another week of former Wizards updates. The USL playoffs are inn full swing right now. Still
looking for a few former Wizards still, and since Carlos Marinelli hasn't even appeared for
Argentinos Juniors at all, I'm doubting he actually signed for them, so he joins the list of former
Wizards I'm searching for, along with Alex Zotinca, Doug DeMartin, Jose Burciaga, Neal Kitson,
Scott Sealy, and Will John.

Here's another one of your weekly update on former Wizards. The USL regular season is now over,
meaning all the former Wizards with Miami, Austin, and Minnesota are done for the season. I've also
found out where Eloy Colombano is playing now. He's playing in the Argentine 4th division with
Ferro Carril Sud.

It's a day late due to the Chivas-Club America game I went to yesterday.. There's a new former
Wizard after Abe Thompson was traded to Houston. I'm still looking for Alex Zotinca, Doug DeMartin,
Eloy Colombano, Jose Burciaga, Neal Kitson, Scott Sealy, and Will John. Here's this week's
update.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Started and played 90 minues in Toronto's 3-2 win over Colorado.

Galaxy 0 Dallas 1
Two free kicks in quick succession from 20 yards out (the second due to a David Beckham
handball) has given Dallas an early eighth minute lead. Dave van den Bergh's shot squeezed through
the Galaxy wall and goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts was fooled by the slight deflection
Blame Galaxy defender Gregg Berhalter for the goal: it was his disgraceful hack from behind on
the speedy Jeff Cunningham, already giving the Galaxy defense fits, that led to the initial free
kick.

Our Galaxy (9-4-11) host FC Dallas (6-11-6) tonight at the Home Depot Center at 7:30 Pacific
(FSN-PT and Direct Kick). The Galaxy is only 2 points out of first place in the Western Conference,
while FC Dallas is in second to last place in the West. FC Dallas is all but certain to miss the
playoffs with a minimum 10 point deficit to overcome for a wild card spot.

With most former Wizards outside of USL off this week due to the international break, there wasn't
a whole lot going on, but a few players did make their appearance worth it.
MLS
Nick Garcia - Toronto FC - Started and played 45 minutes in Toronto's 1-0 loss to Colorado.
Taylor Graham - Seattle Sounders FC - Seattle did not have a game this week.

Week 25 was all set to be a quiet one in Major League Soccer with only three games scheduled. But
there was plenty of action, a lot of red and no fewer than eleven goals. An adequate return from
three matches, and here's my weekly MLS roundup to bring y'all up to date with the ever-bubbling
playoff race.

Here is this week's former Wizards update, we have a new addition to the list, as Chris Konopka has
been found in Ireland again, having signed with Sporting Fingal FC. Also appears that Scott Sealy
was trialing in Turkey with Ankaragucu after leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv. Still trying to find Alex
Zotinca, Doug DeMartin, Eloy Colombano, Jose Burciaga, Neal Kitson, and Will John, if any of them
are still playing.

Time for this week's weekly update on former Wizards. A few goals were scored this week, but
overall not a good week for MLS former Wizards, as the majority did not even get games for their
teams this weekend. Also, check out the end of this post, as I'm listing the players that I believe
are still playing, but do not know where they are at now.

My vote is going to Dave van den Bergh because I am a big fan of using the outside of your foot
(when it is on to do so). I thought his shot was 1st class and from a very tough angle and it
needed that spin on it to stay out of the reach of the keeper.
You can officially vote for MLS Goal of the Week on MLSnet.

It was about 48 hours before their match this past Sunday against FC Dallas when Juan Carlos
Osorio called the players to the locker room at their training facility in Montclair State
University and told everyone after practice that he wasn't going to wait for the end of the season
to leave the club.

The Post-Osorio era begins today at Giants Stadium as the New York Red Bulls take on FC Dallas
in the first match since Juan Carlos Osorio's resignation as head coach.
The Red Bulls' season is over, while FC Dallas isn't too far from being over, but there are
still some good storylines. Interim head coach Richie Williams is in his first game in charge while
former Red Bull Dave Van Den Bergh makes his first appearance at Giants Stadium since being traded
by the Red Bulls in the off-season.

Another week of former Wizards updates. We have the return of a former Wizard, as it appears that
Edson Elcock has returned to the game, joining Yomby William again at Richmond. We also have the
appearance of another former Wizard who is not playing any more. Dionysius Sebwe, who the Wizards
drafted in 1996, is now a Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Defense in Liberia.

A good week for many former Wizards, as Stephen Armstrong and Ryan Pore both scored multiple goals
this past week, Eddie Johnson seems to have gotten himself a place as a sub on Fulham's bench, and
Khari Stephenson is trying to add another cup winner's medal to his 2004 US Open Cup medal. More of
the European leagues are kicking off.

Just the six matches in Major League Soccer this last weekend, with other teams taking advantage of
the opportunity to get schooled by Real Madrid in pre-season friendlies. But we don't care about
those games here at
Football Americana, so let's get down to business.
At Pizza Hut Park, it was that man Jeff Cunningham making the difference once again.

It's come to this. With last night's humiliating 2-1 home loss to Trinidadian club W Connection,
the New York Red Bulls have shot the rest of this horrible 2009 season to smithereens. With nine
meaningless league matches to play, the worst season in MLS history will come to a merciful end on
Saturday, October 24th against visiting Toronto FC.

suspended the Apertura season.

The American football psyche may have been dominated by the Gold Cup and the All-Star game lately,
but the relentless march of Major League Soccer continues. Week 19 got underway at Rio Tinto on
Friday, where
FC Dallas gave their hosts a fright - briefly.
Jeff Cunningham mugged
Real Salt Lake's Will Johnson on 20 yards and fired past
Nick Rimando to put FCD ahead in the 13th minute.
