Now that we're through the holidays its time to get back to business. Hopefully KSE will make a
coaching choice this week, as this debacle of an off-season can't go on much longer. More on that
in a moment.

While the retaining of David Beckham's services remains up in the air for the Los Angeles
Galaxy, five other players saw their contract situations get a lot clearer on Friday.
Sean Franklin and Bryan Jordan re-signed with Los Angeles, while Adam Cristman's option was
picked up, allowing Bruce Arena to keep key parts of the deep squad that won the 2011 MLS Cup and
Supporters' Shield.
Los Angeles Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena was named MLS Coach of the Year for the third time,
winning the 2011 award after leading the Galaxy to the Supporters Shield as the team with the best
record in the MLS regular season. The Galaxy's 19-5-10 record was also the second best record in
league history.
This is the question everyone wants to know the answer to how good is Rafa Marquez?
Okay, maybe everyone isn't waiting to find an answer to that question but Marquez certainly
knows. Better than the rest of the NY defense. After a recent 3-1 loss to Real Salt Lake
Marquez had this to say according to mlssoccer.

Dasan Robinson is on his third club in just a year, but he's ready to return to the form that
once made him one of the finest young defenders in MLS.
Recently acquired by the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for Kyle Davies from Toronto FC, who had
acquired Robinson less than two months earlier from the Chicago Fire, Robinson is not unfamilar
with the L.
The Galaxy get the experienced Dasan Robinson, to bolster their defending corps for the run-in
in a deal announced just after the 2 p.m. MLS trading deadline.
He was originally drafted by the Chicago Fire when current Galaxy Associate Head Coach Dave
Sarachan was head coach there.
Robinson did not make an appearance for Toronto after being traded by the Fire in July for
defender Dan Gargan and a second round 2012 draft pick.
Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated comments on U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann naming Martín Vásquez as
his No. 2, as well as his strengths and weaknesses-
Let me start off by saying it's rare to hear so much talk about an assistant coach for the U.S.
national team. Quick, can you name the No.
I wonder what happened after Dave Sarachan met Zack Galifianakis. Did they drive straight to Vegas
and wild out? Did they grab Mike Magee on the way and dress him up like Bradley Cooper just for
sh!ts and gigs? And will they repeat the exact same evening 2 years from now and call it a sequel?
It is almost never a mistake for a team to fire a coach. It's like a relationship - once it gets to
the point where you're seriously asking whether you should break up, you should probably break
up.
The mistake almost always ends up being the choice of replacement. In many cases, the choice could
end up being so poor that it calls into question the original decision to can the previous coach.
MLSSoccer.com has a great profile on Mundelein, IL native and University of Louisville alum
Charlie Campbell. Campbell, like any good Midwestern soccer player, grew up a Chicago Fire fan. He
even considers Patrick Nyarko and Baggio Husidic to be good friends. Now there is a twist in that
fandom as FC Dallas selected Campbell with the 35th overall pick of the 2011 MLS Draft.
Gregg Berhalter has signed a one-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the club
announced Tuesday, with the defender's duties expanded to those of a player-coach.
The 37-year-old, who participated in both the 2002 and 2006 World Cups under Bruce Arena, will now
join Galaxy GM and head coach Arena's staff as an assistant coach.
The 37-year-old central defender signed a new one-year contract, the club announced this
afternoon.
Berhalter slowed visibly last season, his second with the Galaxy after a 15-year career in
Europe, and by season's end was mulling retirement.
Injuries limited Berhalter to just 16 games last season.
