"Look at Nani - his free kick goes right into the wall, again!"
It's been all doom
and gloom for Liverpool over the past few weeks - the losses keep mounting, as do the injuries -
and the club finds itself in its most precarious state in years.
On the other hand, Chelsea are being touted as "Champions" before we've even hit December, and with
over six months of football still to be played, it seems as if journalists, bloggers, and pundits
alike are claiming that The Blues have what it takes to win it all.

and the big money.
You know. The ones who get all the press.
Too bad you can't play a match on paper.

United have released a list of their Champions' League squad members, and importantly, Owen
Hargreaves is a part of it. The 25-man squad also includes Kiko Macheda, Gabriel Obertan and Darron
Gibson. However, Anderson has been relegated to the secondary list of additional 10 members which
includes Welbeck and Evans.

Today is of course deadline day for the transfer window, so what can we expect? Well I'm not
convinced we'll actually buy anyone but I would hope there'll at least be one or two loan signings
to strengthen the squad. Hughton told The Journal: "We have good players here and it's only right

A few questions have been asked of Sir Alex Ferguson's team selection so far this season
following decisions to massively rotate the central midfield positions. Paul Scholes, Darren
Fletcher, Anderson, Michael Carrick and Darron Gibson have all had a go and the press reported
Anderson's lack of match time was down to a falling out he had with the manager.

With a week until the transfer window closes, some fairly bizarre rumours have been doing the
rounds.
First, it was claimed that Michael Carrick was on his way back to Tottenham Hotspur with Luka
Modric coming in the other direction. The Spurs fans seemed to fancy it but could see that it was
tabloid nonsense, originated from the fact Carrick had been rotated and Harry Redknapp confessed
Ferguson was a fan of Modric.

United kick off their Premier League defence at home to Birmingham tomorrow with a squad not
much different from that of last season. Obviously there were a couple of big name departures but
the high profile replacements many expected never materialised and with the possible exception of
Antonio Valencia, United will field a team of seasoned Reds when they kick off tomorrow.

"If you don't put them in then you can't know what you've got...if they're good enough,
they're old enough," was the message of Sir Matt Busby, a legacy which has continued through
to present day. Whilst having experienced players in your squad is important, you should always
make room for the development of youngsters.

Thomond Park hosted Ireland and the Socceroos last night in a
game that Ireland should have taken in their stride. Cahill got the Aussies in front after 38 mins.
Giovanni Trapattoni had obviously given a good pre match speech because Ireland
did give it all they had , but with so many premiership players on the pitch it was definitely a
night of "Could have done better".

So after completing the Asian money-making exercise leg of the pre-season, United return to
Europe with a stop in Germany (Munich, in particular) to play in the Audi Cup. This 'Cup
competition' involves United playing two matches on Wednesday and Thursday (of this
week). With such a demanding schedule, I honestly hope they are in the plane to Munich, like
right now.

The papers claimed that Darron Gibson had been placed on the transfer list a few months ago,
alongside Danny Simpson and Frazier Campbell. Considering Gibson's last action for the club was to
score a blinding goal in our 1-0 win at Hull, it seemed odd that he wouldn't be given the
chance.
Gibson has today confirmed that he has just one year remaining on his current deal but it
appears as though it was a load of rubbish that he was on the transfer list.

Whilst still unconfirmed by the club, reports last week claimed that Frazier Campbell, Danny
Simpson and Darron Gibson had been placed on the transfer list. Since then, Hull have come in with
a £6m offer for Campbell, whilst Simpson will probably struggle to land a Premiership team. He
couldn't get in the Blackburn team so will likely join a Championship side this summer, with
Newcastle and Birmingham apparently interested.

The press have reported that Danny Simpson, Frazier Campbell and Darron Gibson have all been put

Disappointing, Simpson hasn't even been able to get in the Blackburn side since early March, and
whilst Campbell's stint at Tottenham was more successful, it was nothing to write home about.

Newcastle became the biggest Premier League casualties since Leeds dropped out of the top flight
five years ago after a final-day defeat at Aston Villa condemned Alan Shearer's side to
relegation.
