Final score and result:- Everton vs Chelsea 2-0 (Pienaar, Stracqualursi) 11 February, 2012-
Goodison Park, Liverpool- Saturday- 15.
A trip to Goodison Park is just the tonic needed following our recent troubles, namely a
bizarre, referee-induced three-goal collapse at home against Manchester United.
Wait, what? We rarely win at Everton? Shit.
Mean muggin'
We have actually won at Goodison this season, a 2-1 victory in extra time in the League Cup.
Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named a 24-man squad for the upcoming international
friendly against the Czech Republic in Dublin on February 29th.
Speaking after the squad announcement, the Irish boss said, "This game is the beginning of our Euro
2012 preparations.
"As we face this fixture, it is important for our players to remember the attitude and performance
that brought us qualification.
Following the final whistle on Tuesday, Darron Gibson was beaming about the winning goal he
scored against Manchester City. Not only did he push Everton in to the top half of the table, but
he also put United on equal points with City at the top.
"I know my phone will be packed with texts from United," he said.
Everton boss David Moyes was a busy man in January, signing the likes of Darron Gibson and
Nikica Jelavic, loaning former Toffees Steven Pienaar and Landon Donovan, and offloading Louis Saha
to Tottenham.
All that activity is seemingly about to payoff, with the traditionally slow-starting
Merseysiders back in the top half of the table following last night's famous 1-0 win over league
leaders Manchester City at Goodison Park.
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted as his side's 2-0 win at home to Stoke
was complimented by former United midfielder Darren Gibson's maiden goal in Everton's 1-0 win over
league leaders Manchester City.
The result brings United level on top with the Citizens, leaving Fergie with no option but to
praise the resolve of his injury-plagued side while also joking that the sequence of events
surrounding Gibson's recent transfer to Goodison Park was planned out by him.
1. There's not too many Manchester United fans moaning this morning that Darron Gibson is a
one-trick pony who only hits piledrivers from the edge of the box. 2. Manchester City goalkeeper
Joe Hart didn't realise that having a man on the post was an occupational hazard rather than a
tactical decision at Goodison Park.

Darron Gibson, did his former club Man Utd a huge favour by striking the one lethal blow last
evening. Landon Donovan continuing his great assist work. City were undone before one could say
Denis Stracqualursi.
Goodison Park is not exactly happy hunting grounds for City, winning only two of their last 15
encounters in that venue.
The transfer window came to a close yesterday with some very interesting signings across Europe.
Once again attention was centred on the EPL where a host of clubs were keen on bolstering their
squads for the remainder of the season.
However, it was to be a bitter sweet day for league leaders Manchester City who despite
capturing Roma midfielder David Pizarro on loan, suffered a 1-0 away defeat to Everton.
For a guy who had a tough time finding the pitch for Manchester United, Darron Gibson certainly
helped his former employer on Tuesday. His 19-yard deflected strike beat Joe Hart at the hour mark,
and Everton earned the home victory ...

A few months ago, everything was going swimmingly for City. All they seemingly had to do was to
show up for win after lopsided win. But then there was a gradual slide in theor fortunes. At the
end of January their season is but a litany of thwarted ambitions. Out of the Champions League in
December and by last week, the Carling Cup and the FA Cup, their accelerated program to win the
Premiership title seems to have hit a wall and in danger of being snatched by those other pesky
Mancunians and the upstart Spurs.
Tim Howard and Landon Donovan were part of a huge win for Everton, beating Premier League leaders
Manchester City 1-0 at Goodison Park. Darron Gibson scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute.
Donovan assisted on the Gibson goal. "That is as good as it has been at Goodison for a while
considering the players we had missing and the team we were up against," Everton manager David
Moyes said.
Manchester United returned to the top of the table after beating Stoke City 2-0 at Old Trafford,
while City fell to a Darron Gibson strike away at Goodison Park. Dimitar Berbatov and Javier
converted one penalty each on either side of half time, and a United side going into the game
without 14 first-team players [.

Roberto Mancini's nouveau riche Citizens just can't seem to put any decent daylight between them
and their Manchester rivals in the race for the title.

It has been another crazy week of football and there was no lack of drama with the big four
(Plus two more this week). The off field news was way more interesting than the actual football
to be honest and so its that time of the week, the time to relive the week that was (n't):
Arsenal:
"I think he will be a good signing, slot him at left back and we will win the
league"
- Wenger talks about signing RVP's son
Finally the Arsenal we know are back.
What a rough week I have had. My week was similar to Arsenals current form, depressing. Well
screw all that, we still had a great week of football. So let me give you a slightly over the top
review of the week that wasn't:
Arsenal:
It was another dramatic week for the Gunners.
In sport, reputation can be crystallised or destroyed in one match. Claudio Gentile was
unfairly recognised as a hard-man outside Italy for his savage treatment of Diego Maradona (and
then Zico in the next game) in the 1982 World Cup but here was a player who was fantastically more
all-rounded than that one game made him.

Ludovic Obraniak was a Lille player until yesterday when he signed a three-and-a-half year
contract with Bordeaux.
All of our further research regarding his career, life and propensity towards nudity was
abandoned as soon as we laid eyes on his.

Some more transfer news today with Darron Gibson leaving Man United and joining Everton for an
incredibly low fee of £1million, possibly rising to £2million based on appearances. Gibson was
told that he was free to leave after Paul Scholes came out of retirement, and I feel he'll be a
great addition to Everton.
Good signing for Everton today as they picked up midfielder Darron Gibson from Manchester United
for a reported £1million with a further £1million in appearance-related bonuses.
David Moyes gets a 24-year-old international who made 60 appearances for United, but never was
able to grab a regular starting position.
Everton have completed the signing of Irish international midfielder Darron Gibson from
Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old Derry born international joins on a four-and-a-half year deal and will wear the
number 4 shirt.
Gibson, whose last appearance for United came in a 5-0 win over Wigan on Boxing Day, will arrive at
Finch Farm immediately and could make his debut when the Blues take on Aston Villa at Villa Park on
Saturday.

Nothing more, nothing less. Just a few photos of Darron Gibson holding his new club colours
aloft (he's been allocated Joseph Yobo's old No. 4 shirt at Goodison) after completing his £1
million yes, Everton have spent real, non-Monopoly money on someone!
Darron Gibson has agreed a four and a half year deal with Everton today. His contract was due to
expire in the summer and the club were not interested in offering him a new deal.
Gibson had been desperate to make a go of his Manchester United career and has waited until he
is 24-years-old to make the move on after failing to hold down a regular place in the team.

Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson is reportedly on the verge of a move to Everton after
undergoing a medical at Goodison Park on Thursday night.
The Irish midfielder has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford and was fined a week's
wages last month after turning up for training worse for wear after a night out with team mates
Jonny Evans and Wayne Rooney.
After witnessing Manchester United defeat against Blackburn Rovers for our New Year's Eve match, I
would touch on another significant matter to the football world, the opening of the transfer
window....

No one man is bigger than the club.
That old adage clearly applies at Manchester United, as Sir Alex Ferguson is renown for never
compromising his ideals for the good of the team. That was on display and magnified this week when
it was made public that the reason Wayne Rooney was not involved in United's team this past weekend
due to disciplinary action as a violation of team rules.

David De Gea's horrendous flapping at a corner led to Grant Hanley following up on his header by
bulling through to the ball again for Blackburn's winner and his debut Premier League goal. It was
a shocking win for the cellar dwellers and it completely knocked the sails off the celebratory mood
enveloping Old Trafford before the game on the occasion of Sir Alex's 70th birthday.
Wayne Rooney was a notable absence from Man United's shock 3-2 loss with Blackburn Rovers on
Saturday and despite Ferguson stating that he was struggling with an injury, rumours have been
circulated that the player was axed following allegations that he, Johnny Evans and Darron Gibson
went out following the 5-0 win against Wigan on boxing day.
The Daily Mail has claimed that Wayne Rooney's omission from the squad today, along
with Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson, was down to the players going out for a meal on Boxing Day with
their wives and girlfriends.
Word got back to the manager and the players were ordered to do extra training on Wednesday,
which was their day off.

It's that time of the year again, the time when Santa comes knocking and also the time when
everyone looks back at the year that was and takes note of the joy and sorrow that it has given us.
It has been a while since I've posted and I thought this is the best time to write a round up on
the year that was as a Man United fan.
Rio Ferdinand, Danny Welbeck, Nani, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Michael Carrick, Michael Owen,
Darron Gibson and Mame Biram Diouf visited the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
Wayne Rooney, Park Ji-Sung, Patrice Evra and Tom Cleverley went to The Christie.
