Who will Dallas protect this year? (Getty Images)
With the expansion draft being next week I have to pull in some two-a-days for my expansion
draft lists. Earlier today we looked at DC United's roster and who could be protected or not not
this afternoon I want to turn our attention to FC Dallas.

This season was certainly a tale of two halves for FC Dallas. Things got off to the rockiest of
starts that saw fans across North Texas grew more upset with the way things were being run in
Frisco while the end of the year sure seemed to show things could actually be headed into the right
direction for 2010.

When the Major League Soccer schedule was released many months ago, the first game that stood
out was the last one: Saturday, Oct. 24, at Real Salt Lake.
RSL knocked the Rapids out of the playoffs (and put itself in) in the final minute of the final
game of 2008. And the league set up a similar showdown by pairing the two in the 2009 finale.

FC Dallas has announced their media voted awards for 2009 and Jeff Cunningham has been named FC
Dallas MVP. Sparking FCD's second half surge with sixteen goals in 14 games was enough to get
Cunningham the nod. Dario Sala won the Defender of the year award after showing leadership and
stability behind a constantly changing back line.

1) Various records to watch for:
- Eric Avila has made 16 subs without a start. Needs four more in the final five games to break
the record, or three to tie.
- The worst Supporters Shield winners in MLS history were the 2004 Columbus Crew at 1.633 PPG.
Somebody will need to finish with 50 points to surpass them.

The Wizards still are very unlikely to qualify for the playoffs this year, but they're not going
down this year without a fight. KC came back from being a goal down to take all 3 points last night
out at Community America Ballpark against Dallas, winning 3-2. Jimmy Conrad picked up the winner
after having a howler of a night in the defensive third of the field giving the ball away for both
of Dallas' goals last night.

Now that really was A.J. DeLaGarza's first Galaxy goal in the 42nd minute.
He initiated the move just outside the box, was turned back by the Dallas defense and Landon
Donovan put Jovan Kirovski through up the right wing. Kirovski's shot was parried by Dallas
goalkeeper Dario Sala and DeLaGarza picked up the rebound.

After more than ten seasons of standing thru the test of time a single record held by a man who
helped start MLS in the right direction was finally taken away. Juan Pablo Angel who was brought
here from Aston Villa two years ago was on a goal scoring rampage and the only thing stopping him
was injury or concussions, yet this past Sunday Afternoon at Giants Stadium against FC Dallas he
started the scoring and finished it with class and grace.

Something was clearly in the water in Dallas and San Jose over the weekend. A combined 10 goals
scored and two clean sheets as The Team Formerly Known as The Hoops and the Earthquakes took out
their frustrations on Kansas City and Seattle.
In Dallas, Jeff Cunningham scored four goals, passing former Dallas Burn star Jason Kries and
moving in to 3rd place on the MLS All-Time Goals list.

I've personally never felt as bad about a Wizards game as I did after last night's 6-0 drubbing at
the hands of FC Dallas. I mean I'm more embarrassed about this game than I was at the time of the
Chicago 7-0 debacle back in 2001. That's because for this game I'd spent hours in the car, and more
money traveling down to Dallas for this game than for the game at Arrowhead against the Fire.

FC Dallas' inability to maintain its composure in close games have attributed to many of their six
losses so far this season. Their last match against the Dynamo was a good example of that, as they
were able to hold Houston to only four shots, yet gave up the lone goal of the match fifteen
minutes into the second half.

FC Dallas goalkeeper Dario Sala has been ruled out of action for the next 4-6 weeks after an MRI
revealed bone bruising in his left knee, the team announced on Monday. It is the same knee that
required meniscus surgery in March of this year, with the pain keeping the Argentine netminder out
of last Saturday's 1-0 loss to the Houston Dynamo.

Is the warmer weather bringing in more soccer fans? We'll have to see what happens as the summer

this column sometimes focuses too much on how many people are going to games, but it's an easy
standard of measurement.

Regardless, seven games remain for each team in the league and every week from now on, whether it's

performances from some great players trying to will their teams into the playoffs.
