Melbourne Lose More Pride than Points against Central Coast

SoccerLens 08 November @ 05:59 AM EST

In this week's Match of the round, we travel to Etihad Stadium, where Melbourne lost both a match, and their epic pride, going down 4-0 in front of 18,000 fans. A quiet first half and start of the second was ignited by a rampant Central Coast side.

Ernie Merrick left his side unchanged for his side's clash with Central Coast, the standout being Carlos Hernandez, who is in blistering form for the Victory.

2009/10: First Cycle

The Footbal Tragic 07 October @ 09:20 PM EST
A third of the way through the A-League season, and it's a good time to take stock.
After a few games of the campaign, Tony Tannous and I had a chat about the football we'd seen so far; Tony was of the opinion that there had been an upturn in the on-field standard, while I thought that it was a case of same old, same old. Click to continue reading...

8 Rounds In, Some Thoughts

MVFC Blog 28 September @ 08:04 PM EST

After a poor start to the season, we can breathe easy again. Two wins on the trot has put Melbourne a point from first place, though the A-League is so tight this season that we're still only in sixth place. But it's good to see the team hit some form at last.

With a third of the season almost done, I thought I'd pop in to share my thoughts on how the mighty Victory are faring this year.

Goodbye Danny Allsopp

Against The Crossbar 09 September @ 02:40 AM EST
With confirmation that Danny Allsopp has left for Qatar club Al-Rayyan Sports, Melbourne Victory has lost not only one of its two primary scoring targets but a long time servant of the club.
Of course the writing has been on the wall (or in this case within the forums) for a week now after Allsopp failed to not only take the field against Newcastle but wasn't even present at the game. Click to continue reading...

Threat from the Victory, Todd, Dadi mystery clears and surprising inclusions

Home - Football Perth Blog - Perth Glory News 24 August @ 10:51 PM EST
by Usman Azad, Football Perth Editor
SO it's Tuesday and we are fast approaching Perth Glory's next match against Melbourne Victory on Friday night.
There's been a tinsy-whinsy bit of confusion on the times for the clash and FP may have found out why.
In the original fixture list released by the FFA, the game was going to be played on Saturday instead of Friday. Click to continue reading...

Aussie Fanzine: Should we do it?

Football in the Capital 21 July @ 09:16 PM EST
Update: We've got fourteen writers, a host of crap names and that's it..so we're moving along nicely!
Well what would you even call it.
It would be something to read maybe when Matty Mckay shoots wide, or when Danny Allsopp hits the corner flag, or Danny Tiatto gives the game a rest with one of his tackles or when Kevin Muscat starts arguing with ref, Cristiano goes for a roly poly. Click to continue reading...

Football video: Danny Allsopp flattens opposition coach John Kosmina

Off the Post 29 December @ 07:57 AM EST
One way of getting their coach to sit down Do you come from a land down under where strikers shoulder barge the other team's manager? Melbourne Victory's Danny Allsopp does. The former Manchester City forward chose not to take evasive action as his momentum carried him towards Sydney FC manager John Kosmina. Click to continue reading...

Déjà vu For John Kosmina

The Offside 28 December @ 12:25 PM EST
Great game in the A-League recently, with Melbourne Victory going two goals down against Sydney FC, but still living up to their name with a 3-2 win. The misery didn't end there for Sydney manager John Kosmina. As well as watching his team give away a two goal lead, he got knocked to the ground by [. Click to continue reading...

Archie beats Bozzo at the death, Adelaide were death warmed up.

Football in the Capital 20 September @ 07:30 PM EST
Matt Simon scored two stunning goals for the Mariners last night, and with Victory's erratic keeper Michael Theoklitos given his marching orders for stomping on Sasho " I'm never innocent" Petrovski in the second half, at 2-1 in 93+40 seconds everyone must have thought the game was won.
And then the ball broke to Archie Thompson. Click to continue reading...

FFA: Archie leads assists... a mistake surely?

Football in the Capital 30 August @ 02:09 AM EST
A-League Assists
If you look at the FFA Hyundai A-League player assist table it shows after Melbourne Victory's 5-0 demolish of Newcastle Jets that Archie Thompson leads the assist table with 3.
A mistake....
Surely Jade North should be on 3, and after last weeks showing Tarek Elrich should be on at least 2. Click to continue reading...

Victory finds its feet in Wellington: A-League Round 2

MVFC Blog 25 August @ 05:22 PM EST
The Melbourne Victory managed to put 4 past the Wellington Phoenix yesterday afternoon, giving it the top position in the ladder after two rounds. It wasn't the prettiest football match ever, with heavy rain soaking the pitch and players. But for Melbourne fans, there was plenty to enjoy. Danny Allsopp had a fine match, netting Melbourne's first [. Click to continue reading...

Chris Bolton FC vs Melbourne Victory: 0 - 0

MVFC Blog 18 August @ 05:17 AM EST
Sydney FC's Chris Bolton stopped shots from Ney Fabiano, Danny Allsopp and Jose Luis Lopez to give Sydney a 0-0 scoreline against the Melbourne Victory. Melbourne were favourites to win the clash, with Sydney missing a host of players including John Aloisi and Alex Brosque. Young Chris Payne made his debút as a lone striker, but [.
