Soccerblog 20 November @ 01:19 AM EST

My introduction to Daniele De Rossi was the vicious elbow that he threw at Brian McBride, leaving his face bloody in the USA vs Italy match in the 2006 World Cup. It left a negative impression of him but here is De Rossi doing something rare in football nowadays, acknowledging that he used his hand to score a goal against Serie side Messina.

Keep Your Eyes On The Ball

A word of advice for Rio Ferdinand, you will have plenty of time to attend movie premieres, start a music label and run your very own magazine when you decide to hang up your boots. Until then, as long as a fat cheque comes to your house every week signed by Manchester United Football Club, kindly concentrate all your energy and effort on the pitch.

Chelsea linked with the world's top players again to prove silly season never ends

According to Fleet Street, Chelsea will launch an enormous transfer binge in January.
The FIFA transfer ban hasn't had much, if any, impact on the Chelsea gossip train – I guess journalists just aren't prepared to give up the stories that would fill hundreds of otherwise empty column inches every six months.

bridge views 23 October @ 06:43 AM EST

Reports in this morning's papers – most notably on the back page of the Times – suggest that Chelsea are pushing the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to suspend FIFA's transfer ban while its appeal is being considered, freeing the club up to make purchases in January.
The Times' report suggests that Chelsea are already drawing up a list of targets which includes David Villa, Daniele De Rossi, Middlesbrough's Adam Johnson and, most worryingly, Emile Heskey.

Football Fans Bring Player to Tears With Dead Father Chants!

Caught Offside 16 September @ 09:46 AM EST

Thanks to our friends at Dirty Tackle for the heads up on this one. Daniele De Rossi looks like a hard nut, I mean he looks like he could do some you serious damage, if indeed he wasn't a professional footballer but had maybe fallen into a life of crime. Well his Roma side took on Siena in a match that saw some pretty savage chanting from the home fans that related to his father in law's recent murder in what appeared to have been a mafia execution.

At the end of Roma's 2-1 win over Siena last weekend, Siena fans elicited an intensely emotional reaction from Daniele De Rossi as they sang a song about De Rossi's father-in-law, who was found murdered in an apparent organized crime related execution in August of last year.

The group of Siena fans unleashed their heartless chant on De Rossi merely because of a foul he committed after the whistle.

The Risks Behind the Gamble on Aquilani

A Liverpool Thing 15 September @ 03:01 AM EST
'La rabona'. Talk to anyone who is into Italian football about Alberto Aquilani and that word is bound to come up. It is how Italians describe an audacious bit of skill where a player backheals a pass while running, a move that done well is likely to put any defence off balance.
Just as Aquilani did at the San Siro on the 11th of November of 2006. Click to continue reading...

Serie A Goals of the Week: Giornata 2

It was a weekend of some nice goals. First, let's just say that Fabio Quagliarella ALMOST scored the goal of the season (he did however score 2 goals on the night). You can watch that video here. Diego scored his first goals in Serie A, Julio Cruz scored his first goals for Lazio, Alberto Paloschi continues to look more and more like the new Pippo Inzaghi, Giampaolo Pazzini continues to score, and Antonio Cassano worked some magic again.
