Kuranyi to make the game even stevens after Hamburg had led, 2-0, 2-1 then 3-2.
Markus Berg and Kevin Kuranyi scored two goals each with Lucas Schmitz and Piotr Trochowski both on
target in a 3-3 draw which had everything, including a red card for Hamburg's David Rozehnal.

2 Blackouts. Stuttgart continued to show signs of life in their game against
Sevilla and they continued to produce stupid defensive lapses, which continually cost them the
games. Two such mistakes, coupled with the referee missing an offside position helped Sevilla to a
comfortable 3-1 victory.

While Wednesday's UEFA Champions League matches didn't have the same kind of upsets, save for
one that was fairly huge. AC Milan, who had been off to a slow, struggling start to the 2009
campaign, came back from a 1-0 deficit to win 3-2 on the road against Real Madrid at the Santiago
Bernabeu.

October means Oktoberfest, and FC Bayern Munich's Daniel van Buyten and his
girlfriend or wife (depending on who you believe), Celine, were all over it this
past Sunday. Really, does it matter if she's his wife or his girlfriend? It's a celebration either
way.
Here is a better photo of her.

In the past Bayern's traditional visit of Munich's Oktoberfest was a way of celebrating
humorless league dominance with one Maß after the other. In recent years it has been more about
putting a good face on matters and drowning your sorrow in alcohol. At least the players now know,
what it feels like signing for 1860 Munich.

It's that special time of year, Kickettes.
No, not the time when you can finally justify spending your rent money on a pair of
over-the-knee boots because it's fall well, that too but, because it's Oktoberfest. Cue dozens of
footballers photographed taking part in beer swilling and much lederhosen merriment.

Anybody who uses the phrase "Hat's off!" is my kind of fella. That's why I like
Mainz coach
Thomas Tuchel. Not only has he taken control of his squad with less than a week's notice
prior to the start of the season following the dramatic dismissal of his predecessor, but when he
masterminded his team's magnificent 2-1 victory over the mighty
Bayern Munch at the weekend,
he proudly uttered the words "Hats off to my team".

Arsenal announced their first summer signing, unveiling Belgian defender Thomas Vermaelen (23)
as heir apparent to, well, probably Sol Campbell.
He is the first Belgian to play for Arsenal (I think) which I interpret as more evidence in
support of one of my more bizarre beliefs; Belgium could become one of the best teams around within
the next 5-10 years.

Bayern eventually overcome Klinsmann's bad karma with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Leverkusen and
with referee Thorsten Kinhöfer still confused about what constitutes a penalty nowadays following
the Champions League semis.
Had Klinsmann been still in charge, Bayern would have played poorly and van Buyten and
Demichelis would have conceded a penalty each.

Barcelona take a 4-0 advantage to Munich but are wary of Bayern's wounded pride when they face
the Germans on Tuesday in their Champions League quarter-final return leg.
Barca coach Pep Guardiola warned their high scoring victory in Spain last week could bring the
best out of the German champions, who have called the defeat a debacle and said they have no real
chance of qualifying.

Though Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the pitch was the only thing worth mentioning in the Group E

Being likened to Franz Beckenbauer is not a comparison which many footballers could honestly admit
to, but for one Belgian defender it is a justified truth and one he can be honoured about. Vincent
Kompany, once described by Belgium legend Paul Van Himst as being able to "beat three
opponents with one pass", has switched life in the German Bundesliga for the starry lights of
the Premiership with Manchester City.
