Yesterday was a tumultuos day for fans of Tottenham Hotspur. First came the news that Harry
Redknapp had been cleared of charges of tax evasion and he emerged from court to a hero's welcome.
Then in the evening came the news that Fabio Capello had resigned as England manager. Redknapp of
course was instantly installed as the favourite to take over by fans, media and players alike.
It's a pretty futile task to find any headlines other than those pertaining to the question of
the England manager's job this morning but is it inevitable that Harry Redknapp is about to step
into Fabio Capello's expensive Italian shoes?
Virtually every newspaper and sports website is covering this and there are so many different
claims as to what, if anything, has already been decided.
As the dust clears from the
impact of the news that Fabio Capello had called it a day
with/been fired by England, the Football Association have a minor headache to deal with in their
search for a replacement.
Harry Redknapp has had his name on the job for some time, at least since Tottenham Hotspur's
dazzling display in last year's Champions League convinced the doubters he could cut it in
international football.
So another transfer window comes to a close. This unlike many others was surprisingly quiet,
mainly due to clubs now having to take into account UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.
Another reason for the quiet was our gaffer's appearances in court seriously restricting his
ability to go on Sky Sports News every five minutes and tell the world which 'top top players' he
was looking at.
Our old friends the Daily Mail run a headline this morning stating that Harry Redknapp has
‘pleaded' with Chairman Daniel Levy to do all he can in striking a deal that is tempting enough
to keep Emmanuel Adebayor at the club.
In contrast with The Guardian who slated the player at the start of the week, the Mail's article
underlines the striker's qualities but Harry's quotes do rather stop short of sounding like a
plea.
We've seen the rumours linking Jermain Defoe with a move away from Spurs before but while the
stories surrounding a move to Arsenal in the summer seemed unlikely, could today's Liverpool link
be more plausible?
The story seems to have broken in The Daily Mirror and may just have come from adding up a
sequence of possible events: JD has a new agent with supposed ties to Liverpool who in turn might
be looking to offload Andy Carroll while needing to cover the loss of Luis Suarez.
Together with Neymar, Santos midfield wizard Paulo Henrique Ganso is another of Brazil's
hottest prospects who is continually been linked with a move to Europe with Italian giants Inter
and Milan thought to be seriously eying his services.
However, there seems to be a new entrant in the race to acquire Ganso's signature.
A couple of days ago, I happened to comment on Twitter following Man Utd's 5-0 thrashing
of Wigan at Old Trafford and Man City's 0-0 away draw with West Bromwich Albion, that the title was
now down to a two horse race as both Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool had failed to beat either
Wolves, Fulham or Blackburn respectively.
Why Daniel Levy needs to accept he's likely to lose Harry Redknapp to
England
Daniel Levy's assertion that Harry Redknapp isn't interested in the England job is wishful (and
deluded) thinking. You don't have to listen to the words Harry comes out with whenever he's asked
if he'd like to manage his country, you just see the patriotic tear forming in his eyes as he
dreams mistily of this headline on the morning of the 2014 World Cup Final: "Cry God for Harry,
England and St Wayne.

Almost every team looks over their shoulder this time of year, and not at the teams around them
in the league, but at the clubs who are coming to try and sign their prize assets.
The harsh realities are that most clubs are defenceless against the big boys and that an offer
will get tabled that the smaller clubs are forced to accept.
In August I wrote an article asking if Harry Redknapp could solve our striker crisis from
within, rather than investing in a new forward. At the time, we had the option of selecting either
Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch or Roman Pavlyuchenko to play alongside Rafael Van der Vaart, who
enjoyed a superb debut season in a Tottenham shirt.
December is always an important month in the Premier League, as the lead up to Christmas hands
all teams a frantic and testing fixture build-up, and gives an inclination into how the season will
shape up. Spurs have impressed so much that a top four finish is being overlooked in favour of the
a potential title contenders tag; a number of difficult games will test Harry Redknapp's men over
the next month.
Earlier this week I received formal notification that Tottenham Hotspur PLC is proposing to
de-list its shares and become a private company again. As a shareholder, I've been kept fully
informed even though the postage on the thick wad of legalese cost twice as much as the value of my
holding. I have one share, literally a share holder, so that's very sweet of them, although as a
responsible shareholder I feel disappointed and concerned that the board have wasted this expense
on schmucks like me for whom it makes no difference.

Glen Johnson's 87th minute winner for Liverpool against Chelsea on Sunday has added plenty of
significance to Tottenham's clash with Aston Villa at White Hart Lane on Monday night.
The indifferent form of Andre Villas-Boas' side has seen the Blues slip to fourth, behind Newcastle
United and level on points with Spurs, who have two games in hand over their London rivals.
News reports are dominated by one story today and that concerns Tottenham's intention to de-list
from the Stock Exchange after posting record annual profits.
The Statement on the club website from Daniel Levy reads,
"It is clear to us that increasing the capacity of the club's stadium is a key factor in the
continued development and success of the club and will involve the company in considerable
additional capital expenditure," a club statement read.
THFC1882 welcomes back Rob for another guest blog. In June Rob wrote this about
Harry Redknapp. So have the last five months changed Rob's opinions? Has the manager won him over?
Read on to see what Rob has to say:
Five months ago I asked this blog site if I could do an article on Harry Redknapp.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that manager Harry Redknapp successfully underwent a heart
procedure to unblock coronary arteries today, while AC Milan announced that Antonio Cassano has
experienced ischemic cerebral damage and will undergo heart surgery in the next couple of days.
A statement on the Spurs web site said:
The Club can report that earlier today Harry successfully had two stents inserted to unblock

He is in excellent spirits and due to be discharged from hospital in the next 48 hours.

Liverpool have emerged as shock contenders to sign Tottenham midfielder and Mexican international,
Giovani Dos Santos.
The attacking midfielder arrived at White Hart Lane from Barcelona in 2008, but has made more
appearances on loan away from the club in the three years since then. The 22 year-old has enjoyed
decent success on loan with the likes of Ipswich Town, Galatasaray and most recently, Racing
Santander.
Harry Redknapp's been involved in football long enough to know that great opportunities are hard
to come by. It's taken him many years to reach the level he has, so should he risk throwing it all
away?
A look at previous England managers such as Eriksson, Keegan, Hoddle and McClaren proves that
it's hard or even impossible to recover your reputation.
Luca Modric is set to become Tottenham's highest earning player if he puts pen to paper in a new
and improved contract that will see him stay at White Hart Lane until 2017.
Word doing the rounds claim that Tottenham are willing to make the Croat an offer he simply
cannot refuse. According to Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, the club opened talks with Modric two
weeks ago to try and entice the 26 year old to remain at White Hart Lane.

After a long and uncertain summer, Luka Modric settled down to business and opened the scoring
with an early contender for goal of the season in yesterday's 4-0 win over Liverpool.
Tottenham's player of the year in 2010-11 was back to his best in all departments and manager
Harry Redknapp has called on Daniel Levy to move to offer Luka a new contract,
"Luka is fine now, he's just getting on with it.

To slightly adjust a well-worn phrase, there are lies, damned lies and football statistics. The
league table may suggest that we are currently the eleventh best team in England, but anyone who
watched us play Liverpool off the park will know that we are a whole lot better than that.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has called the England manager's job a poisoned chalice while at the
same time stating that it would be hard for any Englishman to turn the position down if it were
offered.
"It is a poisoned chalice," he said. "Good luck to whoever takes over if they win Euro 2012,
because it would be like following Sir Alex Ferguson, wouldn't it?
Why Redknapp and Levy fall out could spell disaster for Spurs
The golden rule of football management is to allow the manager be in complete control of his
team. Looking from the outside in, that did not seem to be the case between chairman and manager at
Tottenham during the transfer window.
Righto. Let's just pretend those first two were warm-ups, shall we? The real season
starts this weekend in a stadium not very near you. It's Wolves away, dear reader, and quite
literally the only way is up.
As you might recall, last year's encounter at the Molinuex was a bit of a swizz.
The dust may have settled, but it would be frightfully remiss to pootle along any further
without casting a beady eye over the various to-ings and fro-ings of the transfer window. Step this
way please...
Welcome to the Lane...

Curiouser and curiouser, we now somehow find ourselves bottom of the table yet with both of last
season's Players of the Year in the ranks.
Various comments on this site have alluded to a break down in relations between Spurs Chairman
Daniel Levy and manager Harry Redknapp. In particular, there may have been issues over the Luka
Modric affair where the chairman maintained his stance throughout, insisting that the player wasn't
for sale whereas Harry offered suggestions as to how difficult it was to keep a man who isn't happy
at the club.
Transfer Window Helps Tottenham to Mature - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
The transfer window closed with Tottenham Hotspur making only two significant deals, but
perhaps the North London club has finally grown up.
The signings of Emmanuel Adebayor and Scott Parker, address issues within the Spurs line up, but
left the fans with a deep sense of anti climax.
There has been a lot made about the lack of transfer activity during the past three windows for
Tottenham. During two of them, they had the draw of the Champions League to lure in players, yet
still didn't pull the trigger on many deals. It's easy...
