Who will Dallas protect this year? (Getty Images)
With the expansion draft being next week I have to pull in some two-a-days for my expansion
draft lists. Earlier today we looked at DC United's roster and who could be protected or not not
this afternoon I want to turn our attention to FC Dallas.

As some of you might have noticed (at least those of you who follow me on Twitter) might of noticed
yesterday, I lost my temper about 'ol Golden Balls...just a wee bit. I'm not apologizing for my 140
character or less rant, but I suppose it's a reasonable to provide some some clarification as to my
state of mind.

When the Major League Soccer schedule was released many months ago, the first game that stood
out was the last one: Saturday, Oct. 24, at Real Salt Lake.
RSL knocked the Rapids out of the playoffs (and put itself in) in the final minute of the final
game of 2008. And the league set up a similar showdown by pairing the two in the 2009 finale.

There was one match on Wednesday night in Major League Soccer as FC Dallas traveled to face the
San Jose Earthquakes. It was a must win for Dallas to keep their playoff hopes alive. Here's a
recap of the match along with video highlights.

Here in Los Angeles, there's a minimum level of fame you must have in order to get away with a
serious crime. We call it the Phil Spector Scale. It's sort of like the Mendoza Line, but for
murderers.
Well, MLS apparently has a similar line, and at least a couple of Galaxy players are well above it.

Over the last week and a half I missed out on quite a bit of stuff so I felt tonight would be a
good way to recap some things and give you all my opinion on each. We've had plenty of new players
get signed this past week, including one Designated Player...which in Major League Soccer is always
a big deal.

Daniel Hernandez made his return to MLS on Saturday, entering the FCD v. LA match as a substitute.
Later as the scoreboard became more and more farcical, it fell on David Beckham to give Hernandez a
nice welcome back throttling.
I don't think you need a crystal ball to know that a fine and/or suspension is coming Golden Balls
way.

One thing I like to do before I go on any trip is make sure my place is decently clean for my
return. Well in the case of this past week for my wedding/honeymoon I was all prepared on that
level except for when it came to getting back in the swing of things for soccer stuff. I came back
into town this past weekend and saw a slew of random scores in Major League Soccer.

Perhaps it was just the inherent frustration of losing 6-3 at home, but as Saturday's LA Galaxy
v FC Dallas match came to an end, Landon Donovan got into a scrap with Dallas' David Ferreira and
when Ferreira's teammate, Daniel Hernandez, got involved, Davey Becks came to the defense of the
man who once called him a bad teammate by pulling Hernandez away by his neck.

Jeff Cunningham and FC Dallas were flying Saturday at Home Depot Center. (AP Photos).
An aberration? Or something we should have seen coming given the Galaxy's 11 ties and eight one
goal victories? The Galaxy have spent the season operating on a knife edge and on Saturday that
facade collapsed spectacularly.

The aged Tony Sanneh replaced A.J. DeLaGarza at the half, which is not a good sign considering
the Galaxy defense was already having considerable trouble with Dallas' speed. We're assuming
DeLaGarza sustained a knock; they're checking on ther reason for the change. (Updated: it's a left
knee sprain, how bad yet is unclear).

A cool and clear night at Home Depot Center, a welcome relief after the humidity and smoke of
recent weeks.
The Galaxy have a chance to (temporarily at least) overhaul Houston for the Western Conference
lead coming into the game.
The omens are good: the Galaxy have one loss in their last 10 games, haven't conceded a goal in
216 minutes and play a Dallas team that has just one road win all season.

Alecko Eskandarian's dismal injury-plagued season is all but over with the Galaxy conceding to
the inevitable and placing the concussion-prone striker on the disabled list for the final six
regular season games.
The former Chivas USA frontman can return for the playoffs, but you've got to wonder if
Eskandarian's career is reaching a conclusion, too.

As we reported last week, or more specifically as Hernandez blabbed last week and we passed on, FC
Dallas has now offically signed ex-SMU and ex-Galaxy/Mutiny/MetroStars/Revs midfielder Daniel
Hernandez. Hernandez told season ticket holders last Wednesday that he was signing with the team,
so it's unclear what the hold up was on the deal.
