As you no doubt remember, former Italy battering ram Christian Vieri is appearing on the Italian version of 'Strictly Come Dancing With The Stars On Ice-Factor' at the moment with his latest routine, a Brazilian Capoeira (a dance based on a strain of martial arts, made famous by Tekken's Eddie Gordo), showcasing all the grace and mobility he displayed on the football pitch during his last few years as a pro, i.

Que triste! It isn't a good week for fans of the US Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league. The board announced it would be "suspending play" this year due to complex legal issues involving a former club owner. This matters because some of the world's best female players ply their trade there including Abby Wambach, Marta, Alex Morgan and Hope Solo.

Hope Solo could potentially miss tomorrow nights all important semifinal match against Costa Rica with a lingering quad injury. The timing could not be any worse as whoever loses the match tomorrow will not qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Solo was seen clutching her right knee during the game against Mexico this past Tuesday night.

The U.S. women's national team cruised through the Group Stage of Olympic qualifying and now just needs a win on Friday against Costa Rica to reach the Summer Games in London.

There's one problem: Hope Solo might not play.

Hope Solo survived her fifth week on Dancing with the Stars. I'm glad: she is a smart, outspoken athlete and the challenge of that program requires that she confront the different ways by which her image, as a woman, is regulated. I, for one, am glad she's willing to do so publicly.
