Discerning Canadian soccer fans can be forgiven for being a tad bit ambivalent about the
Canadian national team's success during the preliminary round of the Gold Cup.
We've seen the movie before after all. A plucky Canuck team surprises the critics (and terrifies
the bookies) by playing attractive, winning football at the CONCACAF championships.

Last night, Canada wrapped up its group stage matches at the Gold Cup in Miami, Florida. A 2-2 draw
against Costa Rica gave the Canucks top spot in Group A, after two previous victories over Jamaica
and El Salvador.
Stephen Hart rested a number of our key players last night, including Julian De Guzman, Ali Gerba,
Dejan Jakovic, Paul Stalteri, and Atiba Hutchinson.

For the past few days I have had that damn phrase "what if" running thru my head. What if
Stephen Hart kept the reins after the 2007 Gold Cup? What if that whole Dale Mitchell thing was
just a bad dream?
I cannot see how the CSA can deny the man the top job. With Canada's 1-0 win over El Salvador
tonight, Hart has strung together 4 wins for the nats.

Canada started off the Concacaf Gold cup this Evening in Los Angelas on the strong foot by downing
Caribbean Giant Jamaica 1-0. Not an easy feat for Canada who just a year ago in world cup
qualifying failed to get by Jamaica. But that was under much maligned Manager Dale Mitchell. In his
stead Steven Hart has returned to take the reigns of Canada.

According to the CONCACAF website, we could be missing five players during the Gold Cup (assuming
Ali Gerba signs). Stephen Hart has named his 30-man preliminary squad ahead of the tournament, and
included are Dwayne De Rosario, Adrian Serioux, Nana Attakora, Kevin Harmse, and Ali Gerba. Here is
the full 30-man squad.

Found this info poking around Jim Brennan#8217;s spanky new website this morning. Now, maybe I
missed the official announcements, but I thought the problem Jim had with the team was Dale
Mitchell and that once he was gone we would see Jimmy return to the fold. But there can be no doubt
with the language [.

The Canadian National Soccer team have fired their head coach, Dale Mitchell. While countries
around the world prepare for World Cup qualifying rounds, Canada is left without direction. When
you think soccer it's hard to imagine Canada playing any significant role in the world forum.
With Canada ranked in 94th place its hard to argue.

Experience has shown me that when an organization has bad news, they release it on a Friday
afternoon when most newsrooms are shutting down. But the blogosphere never sleeps and there is
already sizeable recation to the news that Dale Mitchell has been let go. I#8217;ll be posting more
about this later, but my kids [.

To the surprise of no one, the Canadian Soccer Association has dismissed men's national team coach
Dale Mitchell with immediate effect. Mitchell was promoted from the national U-20 side and had been
at the head of the senior team from 22 months. Once again, Canada failed to reach the Hexagonal,
which isn't entirely his fault -- they landed in the most difficult semifinal group for the second
time in succession.

I have no new information to add to Duane#8217;s post last night at The 24th Minute that
#8220;multiple sources are reporting tonight that Dale Mitchell has been relieved of his duties as
head coach of the Canadian men#8217;s national team and will be assigned new
responsibilities.#8221; Except that it would make for a super fantastic week [.

Holy crap, what a day! 2 major developments for Canadian soccer - Julian de Guzman blasting the CSA
and The Voyageurs issuing a press release calling for Dale Mitchell's resignation. If you have been
lurking around the V's forum for the past week or so, then you have no doubt caught wind of the
press release [.

The dream for South Africa 2010 is officially over, with Canada dropping a 3-0 decision to Jamaica
last night. The CSA blow by blow details are here. The only small detail left is for Dale Mitchell
to be replaced. Please, CSA, instill some confidence in us lowly fans - replace the coach. Even you
have to realize [.

Great. Just when I spew on Dale Mitchell, up Canada pops with a 2-2 draw with Mexico and, from all
accounts I have read so far, a pretty decent outing (between my night job and my day job, I have
yet to watch the tilt.) A decent outing without Atiba Hutchinson, Dwayne DeRosario, Julian De [...]

I have always said that Dale Mitchell should be given the full qualification cycle. I think that,
if we want to attract top people, we have to at least give them some assurances that they will have
some time to prove or fail themselves. Dale Mitchell belongs in the fail category. Qualification
has been an abject failure.

I have waited 48 hours before i would write of Canada's ignominious defeat to Honduras and its
quick exit from World Cup Qualifying. As of now Canada have missed six straight World Cup
qualifications. The last qualification came in Mexico 1986.In that tournament Canada went win less
and goalless.

Earlier today, Dale Mitchell responded to Jim Brennan and, well, it looks like we've got us a good
ol' fashioned tit for tat going on in Canadian soccer. When asked if he would ever call Brennan
again, Mitchell responded with an emphatic "no". Mitchell said Brennan had turned down
the call-ups in the last 18 months [.

Last evening in Montreal at Saputo Stadium Canada lost to Honduras and almost insured that Canada
will now miss its Seventh straight World Cup tallying up 28 years since Canada has appeared in a
World Cup.(Mexico 86 being the last)This news is stark in contrast to the reality that Concacaf is
one of the easiest federations to gain access to the Worlds most important sporting event.

Okay, if you were Dale Mitchell, who would you start between the pipes on Saturday against
Honduras? I'm serious here. I really am curious as to what a manager in his position is thinking
right now. If he doesn't go with Onstad, will that shake up the confidence of a keeper whose
confidence is already shaken [.

Canada's tie to Jamaica last night on its surface is nothing to be ashamed of.But being in a group
with Mexico and Honduras finds the Canadians playing the role of scavenger, forced to seek out two
lost points in what some are saying is Concacafs group of death.
Is the situation dire for Canada?

I give the CSA a lot of guff about their website. It seems like the last place to find up to date
