Henry Winter believes Kenny Dalglish's outburst following the Bolton defeat is "unprecedented" in
the history of Liverpool Football Club.
The Reds boss publically criticized members of his squad following the 3-1 loss at the Reebok
Stadium, accusing them of showing a lack of respect to their opponents and being distracted by
Wednesday's Carling Cup semi-final second leg with Manchester City and next weekend's FA Cup clash
with Manchester United.

The January transfer window is often a frenzied time with chairmen, managers and agents battling
against the clock to secure new players. As a result, many players who move during this period
often do so at over-inflated transfer fees and are hit-or-miss in terms of success.

"Football is a simple game" were four words of Graham Taylor's wisdom when he was managing
Watford up the Football League in the late 70s and early 80s. And his Watford sides certainly "kept
it simple." But it is an unfortunate consequence of the contemporary 24-hour news culture that
"keeping" football analysis "simple" leaves a gap in the media schedules.
If you're reading this, you'll be familiar with the story that broke yesterday morning.
This is one of those posts I'd have preferred not have written: it's an unfathomable tragedy
that any 42 year old family man should apparently chose to end his life in such a devastating
manner. I didn't know Gary Speed, but I knew about him: he was one of the best Welsh players of his
generation and looked as if he was about to oversee a long overdue revival of the fortunes of the
Welsh national team.
Reports that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has opened talks with the club over a new contract
will come as no surprise to the Reds' loyal fans.
Few players command such respect, or hold a position of similar responsibility, at any club around
the World, let alone in England, and it's something that the club's American owners have been quick
to realize.
As the MLS season draws to a close, the David Beckham rumours are starting to gather pace but
any move to Spurs could be scuppered by the former England man's desire to represent Great Britain
at the 2012 Olympics.
Beckham believes that to do that, he needs his next club to be able to guarantee regular
football.
The Daily Telegraph i s reporting today that Newcastle United are set to sign target Modibo Maiga,
to a long-term deal in January. Modibo Maiga will sign a deal though the summer of 2016 And as
we had hoped for, and even suspected, negotiations have been ongoing between Sochaux and
Newcastle, to get the striker on Tyneside, and [.
The Glazer family discussed the possibility of individual selling of overseas television rights
with John W Henry and his colleagues at Liverpool before club chief executive Ian Ayre floated the
subject this week, The Daily Telegraph understands.
Ayre's suggestion that the biggest clubs in the league abandon the Premier League's collective
selling model and exploit their overseas rights individually has met with opposition from the
league and clubs concerned that it would ultimately weaken the competition.
Scott Parker has been an instant hit amongst Spurs fans but it seems that the Tottenham board
took a lot of convincing before sanctioning his move from West Ham at the end of August.
Parker has slotted in comfortably in his customary midfield berth and has more than played his
part in Tottenham's recent run of form; a fact that seems to vindicate Harry's faith in him.
Owner's Update Stadium Situation
Tom Werner says he and John W Henry are still considering the options available on the club's
future stadium plans. The American tycoons are still discussing the eagerly awaited decision on
whether they redevelop Anfield or build a entirely new stadium.
Liverpool chairman Tom Werner insists the possibility of a ground-share with city neighbours
Everton is a 'dead issue'.
The Reds have long been considering stadium plans and the club's unpopular former owners, Tom Hicks
and George Gillett had pledged to build a replacement for Anfield in Stanley Park.
For Fernando Torres, it will be a long way back to media approval. His move to Chelsea, for a
record £50m, will lead to him always being highly scrutinised and criticised for each game where
he doesn't score.
His performance against Manchester United, which included a fine goal, a number of feats of
fleeting footwork and concluded a great week for him, which included two assists against Bayer
Leverkusen on Wednesday, will be remembered for one other incident.

Liverpool owner John W Henry is baffled by criticism of the club's summer spending spree and
believes critics have been hypocritical.
Since taking over the club in October 2010, Henry has sanctioned big-money signings such as Andy
Carroll, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing for a combined figure in the region of £71million.
Mourinho out of time in Madrid? - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Jose Mourinho has many gifts. For organisation, for having team buy into a philosophy, for quick
quips and irritation. It's perhaps fitting that a master of hyperbole has been pilloried by the
more rampant sensationalists in the British media concerning his antics during and after the
Spanish Supercup.
Let's be honest, apart from the four signings we have made this summer in Piazon, Romeu, Courtious
and Lukaku, we have all been pretty much sitting here waiting for some big names to come and join
our squad.
We have seen the likes of City, United and Liverpool splashing silly money on rebuilding and
strengthening their squad and have yet to see Chelsea do the same.

Newcastle United have confirmed today that Joey Barton has been placed on the transfer list today

Spooky tennis The Daily Telegraph's celebrity spotting team at Wimbledon have done a cracking job:
they managed to spot deceased football legend Sir Bobby Robson. The ex-England, Barcelona and
Newcastle manager sadly passed away in 2009, and yet was featured in the Telegraph's Wimbledon

And so, the spinning wheel spins and the dance begins again.
The Daily Telegraph (along with several other national newspapers) are reporting this morning
that Arsenal have knocked back a £27 million bid from...yes, you guessed it...
Lucas Piazon at São Paulo's youth sides training centre in Cotia
The interview with Lucas Piazon took place in São Paulo on May 28th the day of the Champions
League final between Manchester United and Barcelona and just 48 hours before he was due to join
Brazil's U-17s at their training centre in Granja Comary.
As a lifelong football fan who has watched the sport at almost every level of the game for the
last 40+ years, I have developed some dyed in the wool attitudes about many things, not least of
which is my utter contempt for the vast majority of the people who run our sport, from the owners
and directors of the clubs to the crooks and clowns who administrate our game.

Well, what do you know? Looks like Manchester United and Liverpool are keen to get all their
summer transfer dealing out of the way up top.
Several newspapers are claiming this morning that 'third parties' acting on behalf of Nasri and
United met in Manchester yesterday to discuss a potential move, though the Daily Telegraph are also
offering the explanation that the Frenchman may just be flirting with the Premier League champions
in order to eek a new £120,000-a-week out contract of Arsenal doing a 'Rooney' so to speak.
Past celebrations for Blackpool - but how will they cope back in the Championship?
As news broke today that the Premiership has once again generated record income (breaking the
£2 BILLION barrier), it got me thinking about how this money would be received lower down the
leagues. The Championship is supposedly a bigger league than Serie A, drawing larger audiences and
seeing more goals, and with ex-Premier League teams with big catchment areas such as Leeds,
Southampton, and Nottingham Forest, this is hardly much of a surprise.

First we all thought Mark Hughes was a shoe-in, then came the swiftly kiboshed whispers that
Carlo Ancelotti was favourite for the job, then Schteve McClaren was ruled in and swiftly ruled out
again quicker than you can say 'Croatia on a wet Wednesday' (apparently he was told by Villa execs
that he would be 'wasting his time' by attending an interview harsh), then rumours began
spreading that Rafa Benitez was all but set to step in but you can forget all that baloney, for it
now looks like the man Aston Villa want to replace Gerard Houllier is none other than Wigan manager
Roberto Martinez.

Wigan's chairman says he has given Aston Villa permission to speak to Roberto Martinez about
Villa managerial opening.
Wigan chairman Dave Whelan told the Daily Telegraph newspaper's website on Wednesday that Villa
wrote to him and asked for permission to talk to Martinez:
"Aston Villa have acted above board and in a totally professional manner," Whelan said.
After the sensational first deal being confirmed today with Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing will
become the second player to make the move to Merseyside, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Downing has long been a target for Kenny Dalglish, with the Liverpool manager deciding between the
Aston Villa star and teammate Ashley Young.

It is being billed as potentially the ‘best' Champions League Final in the last decade by
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson who will be hoping to avenge a Barcelona side that
seemingly eased to victory in the 2009 final.
Today's event will be watched from all four corners of the world as its top two club sides go

Simply explosive news coming from FIFA headquarters this morning, as Reuters and London's Daily

I'm not normally prone to referring to other football journalist's writings on other
websites, preferring to keep my content as original as pssible, but I feel it necessary to share an

call themselves Champions of Europe;
MANCHESTER UNITED HOPE TO BEAT BARCELONA BY EXTOLLING THE VIRTUES OF THE BEAUTIFUL GAME
Yesterday, I remarked that Liverpool apparently used the third different formation in three matches
despite starting the same front six in all three. What do the Daily Telegraph's average position
charts (click on "team stats" on the right sidebar) have to say?
It's difficult to divine the 4-4-2 diamond from the average position diagram against Birmingham.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish and director of football Damien Comolli have outlined up to 22
targets in their pursuit of a Champions League winning squad for next season, according to the
Daily Telegraph.
Dalglish has already revealed that despite a great quantity of emerging young talent at Liverpool,
investment will need to take place to take the Anfield club in the direction of winning trophies
once more.
Glen Johnson has insisted he has no regrets about joining Liverpool and is looking forward to a
bright future with the club.
The England international has endured long periods of frustration since making the move to Anfield
from Portsmouth in the summer of 2009.
He could not help the Reds qualify for the UEFA Champions League last season under Rafa Benitez and
was criticized by Roy Hodgson at the start of this term following a series of disappointing
performances.
