Only a couple names to even mention today that cleared waivers and were picked up by a new club.
D.C. United added defender Jeff Curtin, who was let go from Chicago; Houston adds Kyle Brown (RSL)
and Chicago picks up defender Brandon Prideaux (Colorado). I didn't see Kelly Grey's name out there
even though he was being [.
Didn't take some clubs long to get their trade on this morning. The Chicago Fire, hot off a
successful draft in many minds has sent veteran central defender Jim Curtin to Chivas USA for
conditional draft picks, team sources confirmed on Monday. A seven-year veteran of the Fire, Curtin
missed most of the 2007 season with [.
How about them Wizards?
Anyway, the injury of Sean Franklin means the Galaxy have had to scramble to replace him. He's been
their most consistent defender, rookie or no.
So who replaces him? Greg Vanney or Troy Roberts? The short answer is that both players are in the
starting lineup.
Galaxy: Cronie, Kleiny, Troy, Vanney, Ante, Ely, Becks, Pete, Willie, Eddie, LD
Chivas USA: Guzano, Talley, Shavar, Jonny, 'Tiba, Sach, Jesse, Nags, Panchito, 'Te.
Chivas USA take on the Wizards this weekend.
Chivas USA have been struggling to fill the line up, dealing with injuries and suspensions.
There are two people that are considered out for the game, probably the lowest in the season.
Raphael Wicky and Alex Zotinca will not be available for the game.
United added some depth to central defense this week with the addition of Jeff Curtin via the
waiver draft. The younger of the two Curtin defenders in Chicago, Jeff had one goal in three
appearances (three starts mind you) for the first team in 2007. He's 6'-3", and he graduated from
Georgetown with a business degree; both pretty nice attributes.
Hey, remember that time earlier this month when I told you that United's senior roster appears set.
And that the final senior roster slot would go to Jamil Walker. And that Guy Kpene would remain on
the developmental roster. Yeah about that... Um...
Walker: Out! Kpene: Out! Dane Murphy: In!
Once again Chivas USA were prematurely knocked out of the Open Cup by the Seattle Sounders.
Not surprisingly, only six starters were included in the line up. Not sure if Preki thought the
first team needed a rest.
Is this a bad thing? Should we go after every tournament? Something should be said for fixture
congestion.
Chivas USA take on the Galaxy tonight... at least what is left of the Chivas USA.
The depleted team is trying to field a team, and barely has enough numbers for the pitch and to
fill the bench.
Preki talks about it here.
Who is out? Jonathan Bornstein is the latest addition with a Left thigh strain.
Kansas City travel to the HDC to take on the Chivas USA.
First question (as always this season) is who is healthy for the match?
Zack Thornton, Lawson Vaughn, Raphael Wicky, and Eric Ebert are all out. Maykel Galindo may make
it to the bench. Jonathan Bornstein, Carey Talley, and Paulo Nagamura all suffered individual light
injuries, nothing to serious, but may have limited participation in this game.
The Chicago Fire has dealt veteran central defender Jim Curtin to Chivas USA for conditional
draft picks, team sources confirmed on Monday.
A seven-year veteran of the Fire, Curtin missed a large part of the 2007 season with a broken
foot but he is expected to join Chivas USA and give the Goats a veteran back-up to central
defenders Claudio Suarez and Shavar Thomas.
Given the focus that this blog has given to United's roster this year, I thought it would be
appropriate to base our Mid-Season Review specifically on the roster moves that the team has made.
In part 1, we will look at United's acquisitions, meaning the players that the team added since the
end of last season that they didn't have to give up anything for.
