UEFA Power Rankings 13 February 2012 - The 90th Minute Soccer Blog
Below are my weekly power rankings for the top (8) clubs teams in UEFA. These rankings are a
combination of their play in domestic and UEFA competitions.
In this week's rankings, Manchester City move up to 2nd place as Barcelona continues to struggle
in La Liga.

RICHMOND, VA – (Monday, February 13, 2012) – The Richmond Kickers continue their strong
tradition of hiring from within the organization, naming veteran goalkeeper Ronnie
Pascale player/assistant coach for the 2012 season, pending USL and USSF approval.
The U.S. men's national team plays its second game in a week, and second of 2011 in Panama City
tonight against CONCACAF foe Panama (8:30pm, Galavision/ESPN3.com).
The United States is coming off a 1-0 victory against Venezuela, but tonight should offer a much
tougher test as the Americans face the Panama side that beat the Americans in the Gold Cup group
stages before losing a 1-0 decision in the Gold Cup semifinals.
Domestic cup competitions in Europe typically feature David vs. Goliath stories, but Wednesday,
it's all about the big boys.
Liverpool carries its 1-0 edge over Manchester City in the Carling Cup semifinals into the
second leg at Anfield, where the Reds will try and hold on and advance to next month's title game
against surprise finalist Cardiff City.
The United States is away to Panama at 8:30pm on ESPN3 (web only) and Galavision. Mexico hosts
Venezuela at 9pm on Univision. Liverpool - Manchester City 2:30pm - Fox Soccer Carling Cup
semifinals, and a tricky second-leg for our Premier League leaders Manchester City. Down an away
goal and facing the unfriendly confines of Anfield, City are coming off a late win against Spurs
over the weekend.

With giant killer Crystal Palace and Cardiff City looming in the Carling Cup semifinals, you can
forgive Liverpool and Manchester City for not wanting to play each other. But they do.
The two Premier League giants drew each other in the semifinal that will begin in Manchester in
early January.
The Los Angeles Galaxy opened their Asia Pacific Tour in winning fashion, posting a 1-0 victory
over the Indonesian National Select Team on Wednesday.
Robbie Keane scored the winner for the Galaxy, who trotted out the same starting lineup that

A day after No. 2 ranked North Carolina suffered an upset loss to Davidson College, unbeaten and
No. 1 ranked UConn also fell.
West Virginia rode goals from Shadow Sebele and Eric Schoenle to post a 2-0 victory over the
Huskies in Morgantown on Tuesday night.The Mountaineers took it to the visiting Huskies for much of
the match, and broke through when Sabele converted a first-half penalty kick in the 34th
minute.

FC Kaliakra Kavarna, named for the Kaliakra cape near the eastern Bulgarian seaside town of
Kavarana, made their Bulgarian First Division debut in 2010 after many years in lower-division
football.
The way the U.S. Open Cup has played out, there's certainly a David bracket and a Goliath
bracket.
The Chicago Fire and Richmond Kickers meet in the former, as both carry underdog stories into
their Open Cup semifinal matchup at Toyota Park Tuesday night.
FC Dallas and two-time defending champion Seattle square off in the heavyweight matchup, with
the winner undoubtedly being the favorite to capture the championship and automatic berth in the
2012-2013 CONCACAF Champions League that goes along with it.
When Steve Zakuani went down with a season-ending injury, things were looking pretty bleak for

Soccer America reports on the US 1-0 victory over Panama in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Semifinals.
Clint Dempsey's goal late in the second half gave the USA a 1-0 win over Panama and moved it into
the final of the Gold Cup for fourth straight time. Dempsey teamed up with two very improbable
substitutions -- Landon Donovan, again coming off the bench, and Freddy Adu, making his first U.

With the Gold Cup semifinals taking place in Houston I got the chance to get some notes from the
teams during their press and training day Tuesday. The general consensus was that the teams all
respect each other and feel the competition level is the highest it's been in the tournament for
quite some time.
Wednesday was a great day for Americans in Israel as Leo Krupnik and Maccabi Netanya advanced to
the Israeli Cup semifinals while Bryan Gerzicich and Hapoel Kiryat Shmona did the same.
