By guest writer: Jamie McLaughlin After a very exciting week of cup football...
An exciting weekend of FA Cup football culminated with a come-from-behind victory for Arsenal
against Aston Villa yesterday. Two Robin van Persie penalties and a goal that Theo Walcott knew
very little about helped the Gunners erase a 2-0 halftime ... Continue reading →
Goal: Manchester City Liverpool Preview: Blues aiming for fourth final at expense of

Manchester United must avoid defeat in their final Group C game away to Basel to avoid the drop
to Europa Cup football after Benfica grabbed a deserved 2-2 draw at Old Trafford tonight and in
doing so showed United's soft Centre.
James: Hello, this is James reporting live from the Etihad Stadium,
where we've got some lovely cup football to share with you on this very fine afternoon. I'm joined
by my long-time colleague, John, and John, I certainly have to say, we are in for a treat today,
aren't we?
Craig Bellamy going back to Liverpool shocked me. He needs to play football, and he's not going to
get it at Liverpool. He's going to get frustrated. In two or three months' time I can see it all
ending in tears.
If someone gets injured, what a replacement he is to have on your books! But I don't see him being
happy waiting around for that to happen.
1961. Scotland continue to just about hold their own the world stage. But not when it counts. The
Sixties have dawned on the back of two chastening World Cup experiences. The decade will go on to
swing but its major championships are denied a tartan tinge.
In November 1961 Scotland travel to Belgium for a World Cup qualification match against
Czechoslovakia.
Carling Cup football returns to Broadhall Way tomorrow night for the first time in just under a
year. Last season saw Stevenage make their first appearance in the League Cup against Portsmouth,
live on Sky Sports. Boro lost the game by two goals to 1, but gave the newly relegated Premier
League outfit a run for their money.

Earlier this month, Neil Cotton visited the Hampshire Senior Cup final, and used the match
as an opportunity to reflect upon the peculiar pleasures of cup football in general.
It's almost customary to refer to romance when it comes to cup competitions. There's just
something about the winner takes all simplicity which makes for Roy of the Rovers style
story-lines.
I love watching Arsenal. As you can imagine, given the fact I write about them every day, I live
off the matches, the build up, the post game discussion, the anticipation of the next one, the
permutations, the ups, the downs, the whole lot.
I find the two week gaps for Interlulls interminable but I don't think I've ever been as glad to
see the back of a season as I am right now.
Scottish Cup final day. Nothing beats it.
It takes a bit of a battering, the old trophy. Sponsorless and struggling in a footballing world
where other competitions hold sway.
Tell you what though, still means a hell of a lot to any side lucky enough to win it.
Today Hampden hosts the Scottish Cup's most successful team, Celtic, and Motherwell.
The league doesn't lie; it merely reveals an incontestable truth that Udinese (and heavens forbid
Lazio), deserve a tilt at Champions League football certainly more so than the Giallorossi. Now,
and with one game remaining, the question for Roma is whether or not the prospect of Europa Cup
football is a blessing or a curse.
Chelsea Legend Chopper Harris is featured in The Sun this morning stating that he believes that
Chelsea will beat Manchester United this weekend and the pressure is all on United.
He said:
"The pressure's on Manchester United. I've seen some of their games on TV and they
don't seem to be playing remarkably well.
As Bolton Wanderers and Stoke City take the pitch for their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium
this afternoon, we could perhaps be forgiven for believing that there is a slight chill in the air.
These are two sides whose continued presence in the game are a solid link with the past, but they
are both clubs that have changed with the times.
I like custard. When I know I'm going to be having custard I am happy. I look forward to my custard
experience.
And then the custard arrives. And it's lumpy. This disappoints me.
Too often in the past Old Firm games have been like lumpy custard. You look forward to the big
event and then you are treated to a dish about as appetising as cat vomit.
Tyrell Belford hopes the FA Youth Cup will provide him with the perfect opportunity to add another
winners' medal to the family mantelpiece.
The 16-year-old's father, Dale, was once on Aston Villa's books as a goalkeeper and went on to win
the 1989 FA Vase with Tamworth.
Belford junior admits his Dad has been a major influence on his fledgling career and hopes he can
enhance the family name by going on to enjoy success at the highest level in the future.

Good morning to you and welcome to a brand new week.
Cup football is the order of business again as we switch our sights from FA to Carling and it'll
be interesting, having seen some of the players struggle against Leeds, what exactly the manager
does on Wednesday night. Will he keep faith and hope that another game so quickly will increase
sharpness and see them recapture some form, or will he add a few of the 'first' team in from the
start to try and get things back on track?
Buried in the annals of history at Newcastle United are the horror images of FA Cup nightmares
at the hands of Hereford United and Birmingham City, both shocking enough defeats to curdle the
blood of the most fanatical Geordie fan. Today, Stevenage United of League Two, a massive 73
positions below their illustrious Premier League opponents, added their own page to the history
books in Geordieland with a thoroughly deserved 3-1 win in the FA Cup 3rd Round.

How badly is Houllier doing at Aston Villa? That is, what should the expectations of the Villa

O'Neill which does constitute [.
