The owners of the five-team Women's Professional Soccer have voted to suspend the 2012 season,
citing the costs associated with the legal wranglings involving magicJack owner Dan Borislow as the
primary culprit. A formal announcement is set for Monday at 1pm ET.
In a league issued e-mail that was sent to the players on Monday morning, the owners attempted
to find a way to circumvent costs of the lawsuit, but ultimately, could not find a way.
After working USSF to be sanctioned for 2012 despite not meeting the requisite requirements, the
Women's Professional Soccer League (WPS) suspended operations today for the 2012 season.
The main culprit per league messaging: the mounting legal bills of attempting to finally close
the Dan Borislow ownership situation.
Today, Real Madrid played as it should have in the first leg. The first half began so brightly
for Real with Gonzalo Higuain the main culprit for not finishing those chances. Gerard Pique was
caught napping and the Argentinian striker should have done much, much better. Minutes later, Pinto
was barely able to foil Higuain whose timing was less than impeccable.
Shortly after facing a home defeat against their city rival Manchester United in the FA Cup,
another disappointing episode arrived for Manchester City as they suffered a similar outcome in the
Carling Cup against Liverpool on Wednesday.
This second defeat in a row obviously stunned the Eastlands, but coach Roberto Mancini remains
positive with his team's strength as he even believed that his team can reverse the result in the
second leg.

One of the most pleasing moments to see in our game is a goal being scored from a dead
ball situation, or primarily, a free kick. Over the course of history there have been numerous
occasions where a player will simply make your jaw drop in striking a perfect shot past a flailing
goalkeeper's hands from 20-35 yards out.
If you are like me and didn't grow up in a college football hot-bed, you are probably amazed at the
level the teams in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) are able to compete at.
Terms used in the media phrases like 'major' and 'mid-major' were coined to describe the top
college football conferences, which are now 'BCS' (Bowl Championship Series) and 'non-BCS' schools
- the have's and the have-not's when it comes to revenue and resources.
The failures of the Revolution's 2011 season have been well-documented. A five-win season
(fewest in franchise history). A nine-game winless streak (tied for a franchise high). A scant 28
points (tied with Vancouver for the league low). A season-ending seven-game victory drought.
And so on.
Disturbingly high squad numbers have been part of top level football for a few years now and
squad numbers as high as 99 are seen around Europe. The Premier League isn't immune from such
abominations with numbers in the 40s regularly sighted in stadiums throughout the UK. With this in
mind I thought I'd take a look at the biggest culprits from Europe's "Top Five Leagues": Serie A,
La Liga, Premier League, Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga.
You've gotta love the look on that girl's face : "Messi?? Quiero que mi sopa de
letras!" ("I only want my Alphabet soup!") Ah, remember when you were 11 years old
and spent hours daydreaming about being a child football mascot for the Champions League
and/or walking out, holding a player's greasy hands?
Arsenal's performance this season have been far from convincing and the below par performances
from some of their player are being said as one of the main culprit for it.
One of those receiving many criticism recently is Russian's Andrey Arshavin, who even admitted
to public that he should have done much more for the Gunners.

Hype is like a phoenix. It is afforded life, it blossoms, it blooms. It peaks. It dies down; it
turns to dust; yet it remains deathless. It is as immortal as it is intangible. Its hyperphysical
presence experiences a ceaseless resurrection; it evades an escape from memory.
Three premiership big guns, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool who last weekend suffered
disappointing defeats all bounced their way back into victories this Saturday after beating their
respective opponents.
The Blues went on a 4-1 rampage against new boys, Swansea, the Gunners slammed troubled Bolton
3-0, while The Reds edged Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield.
Newcastle were second best tonight at Loftus Road, and QPR must be wondering how they missed so
many clear cut chances in this game. In the first half alone QPR must have created six good chances
but they squandered all of them, and Jay Bothroyd was the main culprit and Shawn Wright
Phillips on the right wing [.

Arsenal 1 New York Red Bulls 1: match report Telegraph.
Once again, so-called Gunners fans showered themselves in glory earlier today following
a 1-1 draw in The Emirates Cup game against the New York Red Bulls and Thierry Henry. From match
reports, it appears that Arsenal's performance was somewhat below par, but to the fickle support
that they have to endure, this was another "blown lead".
So as wonderful as the Women's World Cup has been, the Copa America has been just epic from the
standpoint of a simple question: "Who?"
Was anyone expecting that much the summer after a full Euro season + World Cup year? Nay.
Gaslights are all on, have been on, and the needles are about to break off.
Rather alarming news from out of Enschede today, as FC Twente's stadium De Grolsch Veste has
collapsed and there are people trapped underneath, with rumors, if no confirmations, of
"casualties".
This is no small stadium; not, considering, their presence in the Champions League, and though
it was under construction, which sounds the culprit, this has the potential to be both tragic and
widely impacting in the world of football.
Not enough people these days can get down to the ground of their football team on matchday and
go watch a match. In fact, I bet a lot of readers will not have gone to more than a handful of
matches, if any, in their entire lives to support their club. I think this is a great shame as
there is nothing like experiencing your team snatch a winner in the 90th minute or the constant
sing song and banter with the away supporters.
There was plenty of speculation as to what the Philadelphia Union's reaction would be to three
of the team's top players missing the club's flight home from Colorado. Today, multiple beat
writers covering the Union are quoting assistant coach John Hackworth as saying that the three have
received "undisclosed fines.
The Portland Timbers have not scored from the run of play since April 17. Let me say that again,
April 17th. However no one took notice, or least pointed out that this was a major concern,
until these last 2 game because Portland was scoring and winning. We all do this, even I did.
Portland was winning so not a lot was going wrong.
The Rio Tinto Fortress fell on Saturday. Real Salt Lake have had a tumultuous few months and it
culminated in multiple factors over the weekend.
Their game against the Seattle Sounders was played in less than ideal conditions, with rain
hammering players and the field being waterlogged. Nick Rimando and Kasey Keller were both called
upon to keep their teams from going down in the first half.
We refer to all the newspaper reports (New Paper, Straits Times, etc) dated24th May 2011 in regard
to the above incident and we wanted to clarify as follows:
It is with great regret that such an unpleasant incident would happen duringour home game on 23rd
May 2011. We are sorry that the brawling incident happenedin our turf and we want to reiterate that
we will not condone such unruly behavior.

So that was how the season ended for Real Madrid. Sadly, it's another bridesmaid finish for us with
the eternal rival taking all the plaudits and the bigger one, among the 2 domestic titles that were
up for grabs at the start of the season. Nevermind that the Copa Del Rey trophy pre-Sergio Ramos
looks far more elegant to the gangly and grotesque-looking La Liga trophy (complete with studs) –
winning La Liga is still the ultimate proof that Barcelona this season were the better team.

Incredible. I literally don't even know what to say.
Arsenal started brightly, and Diaby had a very good header opportunity that he did well to get
onto that he put just wide within the first 5 minutes. Theo had a very good shot from long-range
Reina always had it covered, but it swerved enough to force him to parry instead of hold, and it
really could have caused problems had it been parried in a different direction or someone from
Arsenal been crashing the box to clean up the spoils.
Luis Moreno has struck again, and this time he chose an opponent. The Panamanian defender
currently plying his trade in Columbia with Deportivo Pereira faced widespread condemnation back in
February after fatally booting an injured owl off the field of play. The mascot of their opponents
and hated rivals Junior Barranquilla, the owl had landed on the field and was struck by a pass.

I read with interest Craig Bellamy's comments before the England Wales game the other week.
Although I don't like the irritating little bugger I thought this quote may shine some light on our
recent performances.
"Are England players scared?
Sorry I'm late, Sunday was a little hectic.
I hope none of you are satisfied with Saturday's performance. One point is better than none,
certainly, but an expansion team on a long road trip that has conceded five goals in their last two
league matches should be easy pickings for a club looking to be a playoff contender.
Five years ago, the phrase "Revolution attack" elicited vivid images of Clint Dempsey, Taylor
Twellman, and Pat Noonan barraging opponents' backlines, breaking ankles, and burying barrels of
goals. It was theatre. It was art. And it was breathtaking to behold.
Paul Mariner, who left his position as assistant coach of the Revolution in 2009, is now
Director of player development in Toronto.
Dare to speak up
Jack Wilshere has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the aftermath of the Arsenal-Newcastle game
on Saturday. If you do not know yet, Wilshere tweeted after the game about how the referee was not
consistent in his actions during the game. Pointing particularly to the incident in which Kevin
Nolan grabbed the neck of Wojciech Szczesny but received no card whereas Abou Diaby saw red when he
did the same to Joey Barton.

The headlines emanating from Bilbao have had little to do with Athletic's white-hot form, as the
rumors swirling around Fernando Llorente's future destination have blanketed this historic club.
Tottenham Hotspur has been the main culprit of the Llorente saga, originally offering €30
million, but after Athletic rejected the bid, they upped the ante to an astronomical €38.

Another night of misery for Hibs. Failure in the Scottish Cup is nothing new in Leith. But falling
to a Second Division side last night increased the woes of a season already so mired in
incompetence that mediocrity has become an aspiration.
Who is to blame? Ask three Hibs fans and you might get three different answers.
