CSKA Sofia played the transfer game exactly right

With hindsight as clear as a bell, CSKA got their man for nothing more than a well-timed rumor.

To absolutely no one's surprise, Roland Alberg will not be coming back to the Philadelphia Union next season. That he's already signed with CSKA Sofia is a bit off, but it seems the Bulgarian side has had their eye on Alberg for quite some time now and with the season ending and his contract expiring, it was time to pull the trigger.

The Dutch midfielder has joined the Bulgarian club on a two-year deal.

After a tumultuous two seasons, Roland Alberg's Philadelphia Union career has come to a close. The midfielder has officially joined CSKA Sofia on a two-year deal, the Bulgarian club announced today.

Alberg was previously linked to CSKA back in September, when MSG Network reporter and occasional Union insider Kristian Dyer revealed that the Union had denied offers for Alberg from Sofia and another club.

But after compiling significant amounts of debt, they were relegated out of Bulgaria's professional ranks in April. While ownership may have created a mess, there's still a strong and passionate fan base that isn't about to go quietly into the night.

Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov would swap his current situation with any Liverpool player in order to fulfil his dream of playing for the Reds.
The 32-year-old began his career in his native Bulgaria with CSKA Sofia before being granted a move to Celtic in the summer of 1999.
It was not until 2006 that Petrov finally realized his ambition of playing in the Barclays Premier League, when he move to Villa Park for £6.
