Sporting Kansas City announced Monday it has waived 23-year-old defender Mechack Jerome, freeing up a third roster spot.

The Haitian signed with Sporting KC in February 2013 and appeared in 16 matches, 12 of those coming in MLS play. Jerome also appeared in three CONCACAF Champions League matches — the most recent being the club's 5-1 loss to Cruz Azul on March 19 — and one Lamar Hunt U.

After beating them 1-0 in the first leg, MLS side Sporting KC thundered out of the CONCACAF Champions League last night by losing 5-1 against Cruz Azul in the second leg, with the Mexican side rubbing salt into the wound by scoring one of the finest team goals we've seen in a good long while their fifth and final goal of the evening.

KC headed into Estadio Azul with a 1-0 aggregate advantage against Cruz Azul, but were taken apart tonight by a much better Mexican team. Sporting held the lead heading into the break but were thoroughly embarrassed in the second half as they bowed out of the Champion's League.

KC suffered from the Galaxy's defensive disease at the beginning of the game as Joao Rojas cut inside on Josh Gardner, played the ball into the box to Mariano Pavone who turned Kevin Ellis and fired past Eric Kronberg.
