Milwaukee Marquette kept the top spot in the Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 1
state boys poll this week after tipping then-No. 3 Middleton 1-0 in a non-conference showdown
Saturday.
Winnebago Lutheran remained first in the Division 3 rankings and Waukesha Catholic Memorial did
the same in Division 2, but the Crusaders were joined by Pewaukee as joint No.
Two of the state's No. 1 girls soccer teams are from the same city.
Waukesha West (12-0-1) moved to the top of this week's Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association
Division 1 poll, joining city rival Waukesha Catholic Memorial. The Crusaders have been the state's
top-ranked Division 2 team all season.
Waukesha Catholic Memorial's John Burke was named the National Soccer Coaches
Association of America Midwest Region Coach of the Year for private and parochial girls teams.
Burke led the Crusaders to a 23-2-2 record and their fourth WIAA Division 2 state championship
in seven years in 2010, beating Grafton 1-0 in the final.
The Europa League has finished the first round of qualifying with several lopsided results and
one needing extra time to be decided.
There were few surprises in this round of 2012 UEFA Europa League qualifying as most of the
favorites advanced. Some of the more dominating performances include Swedish side Elfsborg defeated
Floriana 12-0 (on aggregate), Twente crushing UE Santa Coloma 9-0 (on aggregate), and Gomel
thrashing Vikingur 10-0 (on aggregate).
The first step in this indeterminable Europa journey begins next in two Thursdays when the club
travels to the Faroe Islands to take on NSÍ Runavík, who finished third in the Faroe Islands
Premier League last year. As in, literally last year as they are currently 4th having played 12
matches in the 2011 Season.

Former Holy Cross head coach Elvis Comrie was named to the helm at Worcester Hydra on Tuesday

Former Holy Cross men's soccer coach Elvis Comrie was named head coach of W0rcester Hydra FC,
the team announced on Tuesday.
Comrie, who coached the Crusaders from from 1991-2008, collected 125 wins during his tenure and
was named Patriot League Coach of the Year four times (1995, 1999, 2001, 2007).
Whether your speak Francais or not, it's not hard to pick up on the "Middle Ages Crusaders" theme
that new boys Montreal Impact are bringing to Major League Soccer. The intimidation and the
audacity is set pretty high, but why not?
The idea even reminds us of a little "Phun With Photoshop" we did on Impact coach Jesse Marsch a
few months back after he cleaned up at the Expansion Draft.
For the second straight year, the Maranatha Baptist women's soccer program has a new career
goal-scoring leader.
This time, though, it looks as if the mark will stand for a while.
Junior forward Karis Rogers had a hat trick in a 4-2 win over host Northland
International last Tuesday in Dunbar, moving past Elise Jones' previous record of
44 goals.
Andy Johnson's hat-trick and ongoing contract talks got me thinking. Should we renew? Tough
call, but my instinct is that if we do it should be very much on our terms. He's been a good
player to have around, but the time he's spent off the pitch should be a red herring flag
(herring indeed!

It has been a summer of poor career decisions but, in football terms, if there was to be a
winner for this particular award over the last three months, it would be difficult to argue against
the winner of said award being Mark Hughes. Hughes departed from Craven Cottage at the start of the
summer, according to common belief in full anticipation of landing the then-vacant managerial
position at Aston Villa, only for Villa to decide that he wasn't the man for them and award the
position to Alex McLeish instead.
New Fulham signing John Arne Riise has expressed disappointment that Liverpool did not press harder
to sign him before he made the move to Craven Cottage.
Kenny Dalglish is thought to be in the market for a left-back following the sale of Paul Konchesky
to Leicester, with Aly Cissokho of Lyon heavily linked to Anfield.
Not that it was a particularly easy ride, but Fulham put themselves in a strong position to
finish off their second Europa League qualifier tie against Crusaders at the Cottage by way of a
3-1 win in Belfast last night.
Matthew Briggs tonked in the opener for Fulham from range, though Timmy Adamson drew the
Northern Irish semi-pros level after pulling the ball down from the ether, juggling it over his
marker and then applying a smart, volleyed finish ten minutes after the interval.

A good workout for the men in white. Crusaders were competent, but not so competent that the
result was ever really in doubt.
Fulham took a while to get going, Matthew Briggs' goal giving us a valuable breakthrough. The
ball was cleared to the edge of the area, Briggs got there first and took a swing, the ball flew
into the top corner as if it had just left the boot of Roberto Carlos.
The news came through like a bolt from the blue. Suddenly, and with a great deal of warning, the
Rugby Football League announced this morning that Crusaders RFLC had withdrawn their application to
play in the Super League from 2012 to 2014. The club's website had been taken down (although it is
back up and running this evening) and angry supporters of the club were wondering exactly how and
why it could be that a club that was purchased from administration as recently as November of last
year could be at the brink of closing down.
We have been paying close attention to the goings-on at Wrexham Football Club over the last
few months, and have decided to bring together all of the articles on the subject for quick and
hopefully easy reference. Mistrust had been building between the supporters of the club and the
owners for some considerable time, and November saw a story that proved to be a portent for what
would come to follow over the next six months, as various speculators locked horns with the club's
supporters trust for ownership of the oldest professional football club in Wales.
Regular readers of this site will be more than aware of the tribulations currently
surrounding Wrexham Football Club. The former chair of the Wrexham Supporters Trust, Lindsay Jones,
has sent this open letter to HMRC which he has granted us permission to reprint here.
Re Wrexham FC (2006)
Dear Mr Norrell,
I am writing to you on the above subject in the hope that I can help in some way to resolve the
current situation.
Going into tonights match aganst Altrincham, Wrexham FC had won five matches in a row in the
league, lifting them to fourth place in the table and, while they may have left things a little too
late to be able to launch a challenge for the title itself for this season, a place in the
play-offs is firmly within their grasp and should they continue the sort of form that they have
shown of late they would fancy their chances against anybody come the end of the season.
We reported on here last week about the alarming turn that the future of
Wrexham Football Club had taken with news of the intention of the club's owners to make them pay
rent to continue to play at The Racecourse Ground in the future. Wrexham FC theoretically owns its
home of one hundred and thirty-eight years, but ownership now seems to be set to passed to a
holding company called Wrexham Village a couple of years ago.
Waukesha Catholic Memorial freshman striker Emily Cervantes has been lighting up scoreboards this spring, scoring 31 goals through the Crusaders' first 12 matches.
This was the biggest week yet for Cervantes: She tied a program record with six goals in a 10-1 win over Oak Creek last Saturday, broke the mark with a seven-goal outing in a 10-0 rout of rival Waukesha South on Tuesday and was named the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/TopDrawerSoccer.
Oregon had five first-team all-conference selections after going unbeaten to win just its second
Southern Badger Conference girls soccer title this spring – and only one has completed her
eligibility.
The junior trio of defender Kayla Kaeppler, midfielder Kara Jahn and forward
Lauren Hughes and freshman midfielder Kelsey Jahn all made the top team for the
Panthers along with senior defender Morgan Johnson.
Evra's hand moved back and to the left. Back. And to the left. Theres no way that happens
naturally. No way that happens if you're only dealing with Suarez in front of him. Which can only
mean one thing: There was a second man behind the grassy knoll. And the FA don't want you to know
about it...
A nice enough evening stroll for the men in white. It wasn't especially pretty or effective,
but a 7-1 aggregate win is emphatic enough.
The goals were all fairly routine and made us wonder why there weren't more of them. For 1-0 AJ
slipped through, and calmly finished, for 2-0 Senderos sent Duff scampering clear, and he calmly
finished, then Zamora scored at the far post to make it three, then Sidwell overcame a serious case
of finishing yips to make it four.
