Man United defender
Gary Neville has been quoted by The Sun as saying that the crowd
trouble at
Barnsley was blown out of proportion because Man United were involved.
United won 2-0 down at Oakwell but the game was marred by three Barnsley supporters running onto
the pitch and other supporters ransacking the food kiosks.

FC Boro 29 October @ 05:28 PM EST
Boro face arguably their biggest game of the season against 3rd place Kettering Town at
Rockingham Road this weekend. Graham Westley's side, who currently sit 2nd, are six points behind
table toppers Oxford United while Kettering are a point further back of Boro, but have a game in
hand. 3 points in Northamptonshire would give Boro a bit of breathing space as they challenge for
top spot.

Big Story
Every time crowd trouble breaks out involving an English team as it did this week when
Manchester United fans visited Barnsley in the Carling Cup, we
get the "return to the dark ages" pieces that suggest these are nostalgic occasions akin to 70s
night at your local disco.

The Spaniard has identified Manchester City and Aston Villa as realistic contenders to dethrone
champions Manchester United or replace Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea in the Champions League spots,
although he perhaps surprisingly omitted mentioning Tottenham among those sides he sees as rivals.

PFA chief Gordon Taylor has urged football fans, pundits, and the FA to put a stop to the lynch
mob mentality that is surrounding Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The targetman stirred
up controversy over the weekend by first stamping on Robin van Persie's face before scoring a goal
and sprinting the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the angry Gunners fans.

EPL Talk 05 September @ 07:38 AM EST
I came across this video today which features a West Ham United against Manchester United match
from 1975, and an unfortunate incident where parts of the ground were so overcrowded that fans were
getting crushed at the front and spilling over the fence on to the pitch.
It demonstrates how packed football grounds were and how the police had a difficult time trying
to control crowds.

Note the day in your diary: Sunday 30th August 2009 – the day Bordeaux's record breaking run of
consecutive wins finally came to an end. Not that it saw a change in leader at the top of the Ligue
1 table – Les Girondins' 0-0 draw at Marseille means they remain the team to beat in France.
Bordeaux's run of fourteen back-to-back league wins that started in mid-March 2009 finally ended
following a goalless draw at the Stade Velodrome.
