Serie A Talk at related • 0 views

Now, with Prandelli's first match as Italy coach coming up August 10th, against the Ivory Coast, the ex-Fiorentina coach has called up a provisional squad of 30 players. In the squad there are 13 players who played in the World Cup with Lippi, and there's certainly a younger group compared to the team which went to South Africa.

Who should the US face in their group?

Purely on a motivational level, the best seeded team that the USA could draw would be Italy. Again.

To go up against a team who has had its share of refereeing controversies and literally bad blood that have helped it win is huge motivation.

Lippi’s list of 50

The Offside: Italy at related • 6 views

So it seems to be a FIFA rule that each national team manager must submit a mega-list of 50 players that will be available for selection for World Cup qualifying games. I'm unsure about the rules of this list and if/when players can be changed or added (and info about these lists are hard to find, the list was unveiled by a Fiorentina website) but it does show you the players that the national team manager has in consideration.

The U.S. beat Italy for the first time ever and they did it in Italy

There were chants of "USA" in Genoa, Italy, as the U.S. beat Italy for the first time ever in Wednesday's friendly. Clint Dempsey continued the season of his career by scoring the match's only goal in the 55th minute with a great setup from Jozy Altidore. The U.S. then withstood a barrage of shots from the Italians to hold on for the biggest win in their first 10 matches under new manager Juergen Klinsmann.
