It is a little known fact that Charles n Eddie, that legendary duo who were widely regarded as the Lennon and McCartney of the 90s, were Crewe Alexandra fans. Now c'mon, would I lie to you baby?
Which is probably what the spokesman from the Football Association was nervously humming to himself, even as he was dialling the number for Anfield to inform Rafael Benitez that his skipper Steven Gerrard was, in fact, injured after all, and would be allowed to return to Merseyside. It's time for the next of our gargantuan pre-season previews we're off to League Two, where the Bovril is likely to be scalding hot and the pies may still be frozen in the middle. Perhaps surprisingly, everybody that finished last season starts this time around, and no-one (at the time of writing) has been deducted any points yet, either.

Player Profile: Diego Cavalieri

LFC News | Liverpool Football Club News 17 July @ 05:16 AM EST

Goalkeeper

4 appearances (as of the end of 2008-2009)

1 clean sheet

Signed from Palmeiras in 2008 for 3.5 mil

BACKGROUND BEFORE LFC

There's an old joke that Brazil win World Cups without a goalkeeper. Hopefully, Diego Cavalieri would disagree with that, because when he left Palmeiras, he was playing second fiddle to Brazil's Marcos, who was their shot-stopper when they won the World Cup in 2002.

The end of the football season brings out the mathematician in us all. Brighton & Hove Albion supporters spent most of yesterday morning poring over fixture lists but, behind the permutations and logarithms, there was a simple equation. Beat Stockport County, and you don't have to do any sums. Beat Stockport County and you will stay up, regardless of results elsewhere.
