The big soccer game on American soil over the weekend involved the Women's National Team, which
packed more than 20,000 people into FC Dallas Stadium as part of a 2-1 victory over New Zealand.
That is a big number for a friendly game against a non-big name opponent, especially given the
fairly cold temperatures in the Dallas area.
The big business news of the day was the announcement that the naming rights deal between FC
Dallas and Pizza Hut was coming to an end. The $1.2 million per year deal was a significant
milestone when signed, and the loss of the naming rights agreement doesn't bode well for a
franchise also struggling to secure a jersey sponsorship.
Last night the New York Red Bulls beat FC Dallas 2-0 to move on to the Conference semifinals. Due
to them being the 10 seed they will take on the top seeded LA Galaxy. That means that the Eastern
Conference's top seed, Sporting KC will play the winner of tonight's game between Colorado and
Columbus in cold and snowy Denver.

Another opportunity for D.C. United to make up ground in the playoff race. Another loss.
Thee days after dropping a decision to the Philadelphia Union, D.C. United lost again, falling
2-1 to the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium on Saturday.
The decisive goal came in the second half on a beautiful diving header from Eddie Gaven, who
made his return for the Crew after being injured for nearly two months.

Boy, folks sure are down on the Columbus Crew these days. Either it is due to their lack of form
in the league at the moment, their injury list piling up like a 10-car pileup on the freeway, or it
is just due to them being in Columbus.
Week 27 of MLS action certainly cleared up the race of the playoffs. Teams were clearly fighting
for their lives. Real Salt Lake showed impressive resilience in against Sporting while Portland
humbled the dismal Revolution. Chicago pulled out a win despite a valiant comeback by Chivas.
Here's your Week 27 Recap.
Columbus seemed to be cruising for a win on Wednesday night at Crew Stadium, ahead 2-1 late even
though they'd been down a man since the 11th minute. Emmanuel Ekpo had been ejected for a straight
red card foul - elbowing Adam Moffat - and the Dynamo were up a goal when Je-Vaughn Watson scored
in the 34th minute.

The Houston Dynamo was in the driver's seat at halftime, leading 1-0 over the Columbus Crew with
a man advantage after Emmanuel Ekpo was sent off for popping the Dynamo's Adam Moffat in the face
with a high elbow in the 11th minute.
The Dynamo, leading at halftime after Je-Vaughn Watson's impressive header off a service from
Jermaine Taylor in the 34th minute -- over big defender Chad Marshall, no less -- was 45 minutes
from picking up three big road points and strengthening their position in the chase for an MLS
playoff wild card spot.

The Houston Dynamo's busy week continues tomorrow night in Columbus against the struggling Crew
in yet another edition of "The Must Win Game". After the beat down in Kansas City over the weekend,
Houston desperately needs points to hold on to a playoff spot, but it's not going to be easy.
Carlo Costly is suspended for his red card against Sporting Kansas City and be glad this isn't
the EPL or he'd be gone for three match for violent conduct.

Toronto FC defeated the Columbus Crew for the very first time in franchise history in a six-goal
thriller and were able to lift the Trillum Cup on Saturday night at Crew Stadium.
It was a back and forth game from the very start.
Tommy Heinemann reduced Toronto's lead to one in the 67th minute but the Crew were unable to
respond as Julian de Guzman netted a third goal in the 87th minute.
The Houston Dynamo's playoff hopes took a severe hit, but were not completely killed, Saturday
night in Kansas City where Teal Bunbury's brace helped give Sporting Kansas City a 3-0 victory and
first place in the Eastern Conference.
Bunbury's first goal came in the 9th minute and, although it would prove to be unnecessary for
the win, Bunbury picked up his second goal in the 73rd minute.

Quiet weekend in Major League Soccer with only RSL and Philly meeting in Utah. A solid crowd
of 18,700 attended the 2-1 RSL victory. Most American fans turned their televisions to the Home
Depot Center on Friday night, where the USMNT hosted Costa Rica for an international friendly.
The Columbus Crew finished ahead of the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night, but did so by the
slimmest of margins.
A questionable penalty call against Philadelphia defender Sheanon Williams helped give the Crew
a PK, and Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon looked to save the ensuing penalty only to see it
trickle past him and into the net to help give Columbus a 2-1 victory at Crew Stadium on Saturday
night.

First place in the Eastern Conference will be available for the taking at Crew Stadium on
Saturday.
That's when newly acquired Freddy Adu and the Philadelphia Union will look to close the
three-point gap separating them from the Columbus Crew and the top spot in the conference.
No midweek games were played in Major League Soccer last week, all eight games were played on
the weekend with an average attendance of 18,975 up from 15,937 the previous week. The average was
helped in a big way by the Seattle Sounders home game against Chivas USA which drew 36,364. The New
York Red Bulls, despite their troubles on the field had a season high 25,177 in attendance for
their game against the Chicago Fire.
Benny Feilhaber gave the New England Revolution a first half lead, but the Revs suffered a
second half collapse, falling 3-1 to the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium on Saturday night.

The loss sends the Revs (4-11-9, 21 points) to eighth place in the nine team Eastern Conference
and 16th overall in the 18 team Major League Soccer.
Hello friends, and welcome to the Columbus Crew vs. New England Revolution live game thread.
This match will be a true test for the Revs as they head toe Crew stadium, in the heart of Ohio
State University, and look to extend their recent unbeaten road streak, despite a hard fought loss
to Chivas USA last weekend at Gillette Stadium.
In a league where over half the teams make the playoffs, it's not often a team finds itself in a
must-win situation with 11 games remaining. The New England Revolution has reached that point.
Sure, the Revs could lose to the Columbus Crew on Saturday and still make the playoffs, but the
margin of error is becoming frighteningly small.
Including the midweek games played on July 20th Major League Soccer had an average weekly
attendance of 15,669, down from 16,865 the previous week. The Los Angeles topped the attendance
charts this week with 24,709 for their game against the Columbus Crew. Toronto FC had 21,087 for
their midweek game against FC Dallas.

When D.C. United captain Josh Wolff reaggravated a hamstring injury in the first half of a
friendly against Everton on Saturday, coach Ben Olsen looked to a bench that had no natural
forwards on it and opted for a throwback, inserting winger Chris Pontius up top.
Newcastle looked so much better tonight than they did at Orlando on Saturday, and the lads gave a
good display and dominated the Columbus Crew throughout the game, with goals from Shola Ameobi,
Fabricio Coloccini and the goal of the game form young Haris Vuckic. The game got under way and the

Some seriously high scoring games this weekend. In between all the excitement of the World Football
Challenge, here's what went on in MLS action in week 19.
New York Red Bulls 2, FC Dallas 2
This was a game of statements. The Red Bulls looked to recover from their 4-1 dismantling by
Colorado in mid-week and remind people they are still a top class team, FC Dallas looked to
continue their winning ways and push for the MLS Cup and the NYRB supporters groups staged a 1st
half silent protest for the way the New York Red Bulls handled to MLS Cup.
Quick note before we dive into our usual "Monday After" updates. The rest of the week will be
devoted to the All-Star Game from Red Bull Arena. I will be at the game on Wednesday night and at
some of the events leading up to the match. Lots of important business goes on at the ASG and I
will do my best to document what I can.
Video: Philadelphia Union-Real Madrid postgame analysis | The Goalkeeper | 07/24/2011
After the Union's 2-1 loss to Real Madrid finished up, I got together with The Inquirer's Marc
Narducci to discuss what the game meant for the Union, and on a wider scale for soccer fans in
Philadelphia.
Union's valiant effort falls short vs.
In a story sure to warm the cockles of Bill Archer's heart, Joey Saputo is delaying the
renovation of the stadium that bears his last name, presumably because he doesn't want to be
responsible for any costs that the government won't pay for:
So what's actually happened is the province put up $23 million for the stadium
expansion, but nobody was willing to actually do the job for that price.
No midweek games were played in Major League Soccer last week, all seven games were played on
the Weekend with an average attendance of 16,865 up slightly from the previous week of 16,642. The
average was helped in a big way by the Seattle Sounders home game against the Colorado Rapids which
drew 36,424.
The Columbus Crew inducted U.S. National Team forward Brian McBride into their "Circle of Honor" at
a halftime ceremony during last Saturday's match against the San Jose Earthquakes.
McBride was the first pick in the inaugural Major League Soccer draft and played eight seasons, and
scoring 62 goals, for the yellow and black before moving to the English Premier League and playing
for Fulham in 2004.
With all of the 0-0 draws in Major League Soccer it was nice to see a seven goal thriller at
CenturyLink Field. Seattle came from a goal down to beat the Rapids 4-3 in front of 36,424 fans.
With the win, the Sounders are now unbeaten in their last none league games registering six wins
and three draws.
By Clemente Lisi – NEW YORK, NY (July 15, 2011) US Soccer Players -- When Brian McBride steps
onto the field at Crew Stadium in Columbus this Saturday night, it will be in his relatively new
position of former player. McBride will be in Columbus so that he can be the first player inducted
into the Crew's Circle of Honor at halftime during their game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Including the midweek games on June 22, MLS had 12 games this past week with an average
attendance of 19,322, up 15,944 the previous week. The increase was helped by Seattle who had two
home dates, including a midweek affair with the New York Red Bulls that drew 46,065 a season high.
Philadelphia had two home dates this week as well with attendance for both games over 18,100.

Andres Mendoza is on a pretty good tear.
The big striker scored goals in each half off mistakes to lead an impressive performance by the
Columbus Crew in its 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids Sunday night at Crew Stadium.
Mendoza's first goal came in the 18th minute.
Columbus 0 – Chicago 1 Following the script from a couple of Saturday games, Chicago left it very
late on Sunday to take three points from Columbus at Crew Stadium. Cristian Nazarit's stoppage time
goal was the difference, giving Chicago four points from their two games in Week 13. Chicago
unloaded on the offense against Columbus, putting nine of their 20 shots on frame to the Crew's two
from nine.
Cristian Nazarit -- Getty ImagesFor 280 minutes, the Chicago Fire could not put anything in the
net. But on Sunday, Fire forward Cristian Nazarit broke that scoring drought with a game-winning
tally in second-half stoppage time en route to a 1-0 win over the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium in
Columbus, Ohio.
Frank Klopas -- Getty ImagesThe ugly moments of the Chicago Fire's 2011 season have been piling up
from week to week. Their last effort, a scoreless draw against the Eastern Conference's last-place
Sporting Kansas City, left a bitter taste for the team and for many folks attempting to watch the
match.
A pair of long-time Midwestern foes renew their rivalry when the Chicago Fire visit the Columbus
Crew on Sunday afternoon at Crew Stadium. The Fire are playing the second game of a two-game road
week, their winless streak now at 11 games after a scoreless draw at Sporting Kansas City on
Thursday.
After an impressive return to form versus Vancouver over the weekend, Real Salt Lake fell 2-1 to
the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium.
The Crew were coming off a 1-1 stalemate over the weekend versus New York. Both teams were depleted
either by injuries or Gold Cup call-ups. Real Salt Lake is almost used to it.
The Columbus Crew has made a habit of giving up early goals, but on Wednesday night, the Crew
also continued a recent trend of delivering late-game heroics.
Down 1-0 to Real Salt Lake late in the second half, Columbus rallied with two late goals,
including a deflected game-winner from Josh Gardner to post a 2-1 victory at Crew Stadium on
Wednesday night.
