D.C. United's abysmal start to the 2013 season hit a new low at Crew Stadium tonight, where the Black-and-Red gave up three avoidable goals in the first half en route to a 3-0 defeat. Dominic Oduro, Josh Williams, and Federico Higuain - from the penalty spot - got on the scoresheet for the Crew in a game that was delayed for 50 minutes before kickoff due to a scoreboard fire.
D.C. United and the Columbus Crew have started their seasons in roughly the same fashion. Both teams have a quality win, a road loss to a 2012 playoff team, and a draw that brought up more questions than answers. The details differ, of course. For Columbus, those results have been a 3-0 win at Chivas USA; a 2-1 loss at Vancouver where the scoreline is a bit flattering for the Crew; and a 1-1 home draw (with the Crew squandering a lead) with the San Jose Earthquakes.
(New England and DC fans, avert your eyes. This could hurt). The Columbus Crew hold the distinction of opening MLS's first soccer specific stadium when Crew Stadium was opened in 1999. Since then, the stadium has hosted one MLS championship ... Continue reading →
With the season is continuing to creep up on us, we thought this would be a good time for a team specific soccer business bits. The featured team tonight is the Columbus Crew, the home team in Major League's Soccer's first soccer specific stadium. The Crew have just announced two new corporate partnerships with well known food franchises White Castle and Papa Johns.
The Montreal Impact took a 1-0 lead on the Columbus Crew in their important Eastern Conference
clash on Saturday, but in a scene that Crew fans have become all too familiar with in recent weeks,
Federico Higuain drove the Columbus attack to a victory.
Emilio Renteria headed home a Higuain cross in second-half stoppage time to lift the Crew to a
2-1 victory at Crew Stadium on Saturday night.
The two hottest teams in Major League Soccer face off tonight with playoff dreams on the line as
the Montreal Impact visit Crew Stadium to take on the Columbus Crew.
The Impact and Crew wouldn't have been pegged to be playing a Game of the Week candidate a month
ago, but Montreal's five-game winning streak and the Crew's five-match unbeaten streak have changed
things and now both teams are on the verge of breaking into the playoff places in the Eastern
Conference.
The Columbus Crew picked up a pair of narrow wins at home during the past week, and that has placed
them right back into the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference.
The Crew are four points shy of the final playoff spot in the East after picking up big victories
in their two matches at Crew Stadium last week.
The Columbus Crew spent half the season struggling to generate goals as their defense and
goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum kept the team afloat, but times have changed in Columbus thanks to the
team's newest attacking acquisitions.
Costa Rican striker Jairo Arrieta and Argentine midfielder Federico Higuain scored two goals
apiece, including two Higuain set piece strikes and Arrieta's game-winner to erase an early
two-goal deficit and lift the Crew to a 4-3 victory against the New England Revolution at Crew
Stadium on Saturday night.
There are three matches involving MLS teams Wednesday, and each one carries a good deal of
significance.
In league play, D.C. United and the Chicago Fire meet in a clash of teams both currently in the
playoff picture and looking to jockey for a safer position as the home stretch continues.

It's hard for any TFC supporter to think about an away fixture at Columbus without harkening back
to that frozen day in 2008 when thousands of hearty Torontonians invaded Crew Stadium.
The Columbus Crew made an emotional return to action on Wednesday night, playing their first
match since the death of midfielder Kirk Urso. As difficult as it was to get back on the field
after such a tragedy, the Crew battled on and honored their fallen teammate with a gutsy
performance.

offensive explosion by FC Dallas and a new leader atop the Eastern Conference. Let us take a look
back at all the action and controversy that surrounded Week 20 in MLS.

sorely-needed victory just before the all-star break to boost their chances of catching the playoff
pack in the East.

The weekend is finally here folks. I have to say this felt like a longer week than normal but
now that Friday is finally here we can focus on the task at hand with this weekend's slate of
games.
Another full weekend, seven games on Saturday with one on Sunday.
Chris Korb's likely reintroduction to D.C. United's starting lineup could not come at a more
convenient time for the Ohio native.
With Robbie Russell suffering a foot injury at Houston Sunday and out for "somewhere in the
month-plus region," according to D.C. United coach Ben Olsen, Korb will be looked at to fill in at
right back starting with Saturday's match at the Columbus Crew.
Sporting Kansas City stayed in first place in the Eastern Conference after coming out victorious
in league play once again, but that was not the only area in which they enjoyed success this past
week.
Along with picking up a 2-0 triumph against the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium on Saturday,
Sporting KC advanced to the U.
Sporting Kansas City capped a productive and business-like road trip on Saturday night by
posting another shutout and another victory.
Just four days after beating the Philadelphia Union to book their place in the U.S. Open Cup
Final, Sporting KC went to Columbus and shut down the Crew.
If Real Salt Lake were planning to get out of the current funk that they are in versus the
Columbus Crew, they failed.
The Crew picked up a comfortable 2-0 win over RSL on Saturday night at Crew Stadium thanks to
first-half goals from Tony Tchani and Eddie Gaven.
Tchani knocked in his second in as many games with a low shot to the near post while Gaven hit a
left-footed effort from six yards out that smacked off the underside of the crossbar before
completely passing the goal line.
When the U.S. Men's National Team takes on Guatemala at Livestrong Sporting Park next month in World Cup qualifying, there will be more on the line than a spot in the Hexagonal round of CONCACAF qualifying. The stadium the game is being played in will be competing for a new role as the national team's preferred home for marquee qualifiers.
COLUMBUS, Ohio-- There figure to be several changes made to the U.S. men's natinonal team's
starting lineup heading into Tuesday's crucial World Cup qualifying showdown vs. Jamaica, and U.S.
head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has already revealed some of them.
There was a time not too long ago when the U.S. national team enjoyed a wealth of midfield
options and a lack of forwards. As the team heads into Tuesday's must-win World Cup qualifier, the
Americans are faced with the opposite problem.
Injuries to Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan have exposed a lack of midfield depth and left
Jurgen Klinsmann's team lacking attacking punch and stability.
If the U.S. team needed any kind of lift following the defeat in Jamaica, they certainly found it
from the fans in Columbus during Sunday's public training session at Crew Stadium.
More than 3,000 supporters turned up to watch the 75-minute session, cheering loudly as the team
entered the field and keeping the energy level as the team went through a series of passing
exercises and small-sided games before concluding with a finishing exercise.

Just two days removed from Friday's disappointing 2-1 loss to Jamaica, Jurgen Klinsmann is left
to figure out just which 11 players he can turn to for Tuesday's crucial rematch against the
'Reggae Boyz' in Columbus.
There were few good performances across the board for the Americans, and some that should lead
to changes in the lineup.
Crew Stadium has been a great home for the U.S. Men's National Team
A sold-out crowd will pack Columbus Crew Stadium on Tuesday night, which has proved to be a fortress for the U.S. Men’s National Team. The United States has posted an unbeaten 5-0-3 record there since 2000, including a 4-0-2 record in World Cup qualifying.

Another full slate of MLS action with some club friendlies sprinkled in as part of the annual
"Summer of Soccer" events. Before we get to the weekend attendance, here is a link to an
interview with Commissioner Garber and the accompanying story from the Sporting News. The
All-Star Game is always a time filled with league navel gazing and this interview is a prime
example.
Another full weekend of MLS matches on the heels of last week's outstanding attendance
league-wide. There was also the Euro 2012 Final and USWNT match at Rio Tinto against Canada. The
US Women, playing in an Olympic tune-up match, drew more than 16k to Sandy.  Not surprisingly,
EURO2012 and Golden Boot were among the trending terms on Twitter tonight.
After last week's goal-fest, Week 26 returned to Major League Soccer's version of normalcy. The fun
started on Friday night, when Portland beat Colorado 1-0 on a 45th minute Bright Dike goal. On
Saturday, Columbus continued their streak with a 2-1 win over Montreal at Crew Stadium. As
expected, it was Federico Higuain making the difference by assisting on both goals.
It was the Eastern Conference filling out the two-game Wednesday schedule for Major League Soccer.
Columbus beat Toronto 2-1 in front of 10,049 at Crew Stadium. Eddie Gaven opened the scoring in the
4th minute for the home side, with Federico Higuain making it 2-0 in the 58th. Luis Silva scored
for Toronto in the 71st.
In what could possibly be the least surprising news of the weekend, reports are coming out that Crew Stadium in Columbus, OH, will be the host of the US-Mexico game later this fall.
That report comes from ESPN's John Sutcliffe, who tweeted out the news on Saturday. Crew Stadium has been the frontrunner since day one for hosting this game.
Clarence Goodson is suspended for one match after picking up his second caution of the 2014
World Cup cycle during Friday's night game in Jamaica. Goodson departed camp this morning.
Steve Cherundolo participated in today's training session, having sat out in Jamaica to rest a
calf strain
Tim Howard worked with the trainers this morning after suffering a contusion in his right leg
Friday night.
Sunday night, the Houston Dynamo will hope Columbus will be Crew-el to be kind in the right
measure to the tune of three points to the Orange. And after last week, I think we're all hoping
for a very, very, very good sign that our march to the MLS elite will continue apace.
The Orange face the Crew, hoping to extend our home unbeaten streak to 21 games, at BBVA Compass
Stadium Sunday at 8 p.
