For the second year in a row, Liverpool start the Premier League season at home, looking to get
the first full season of Kenny Dalglish's renewed reign off on the right foot. We say it every
year, regardless of the action during the summer this is what we've all been waiting for. The
transfer deadline keeps a bit of nonsense around until the end of August, but we're ever closer to
having a singular focus on the Premier League season, and that's about as good as it gets.
The Scottish, Welsh and Irish FAs have denied claims from the British Olympic Association (BOA)
that an "historic agreement" for a Great Britain Olympic football side was now in place.
The BOA said this "historic agreement" had been reached with the English Football Association
over fielding teams at the 2012 Games.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both be criticised for over paying for players,
however, what about those clubs that got it totally wrong? Here are 11 of the worst signings from
recent Premier League history.
So, in the wake of the the meeting the whole thing has gone transfer crazy now.
Firstly, Lille confirmed that we were to 'have talks' with Gervinho and that we were the
player's preferred destination. Until he talks to Man City and they offer him two spaceships.
This morning The Mirror links us to a raft of players under the headline 'Arsenal will
spend £30MILLION on stars to stop fan backlash'.
Sunderland's bit to break away from relegation danger could get really difficult in the
remaining six matches as the club will be playing without their number one keeper, Craig Gordon,
who has been sentenced to rest for about four to six months.
The unpleasant news was revealed by the team's manager himself, Steve Bruce, explaining that the
long due is because Gordon needs a big rest after successfully conducting an operation on the
knee.
Hibernian 0-4 Heart of Midlothian, April 2006 Your boys took one hell of a beating is a post

Sometimes, just sometimes supporting your team can be exhilarating, enjoyable, everything you
ever wanted rolled into one. In a word. Perfect.
Sunday the 2nd of April 2006 was one of those days.
Liverpool will be hoping there are no beach balls on the pitch when they visit the Stadium of Light
on Sunday.
The last time they faced the Black Cats at the Wearside venue, the now departed Darren Bent's
winning goal famously deflected into the net off such a piece of beach equipment.
But even if there aren't any beach balls, boss Kenny Dalglish knows there is a potential banana
skin to avoid, given the Reds have lost all three of their Premier League away games directly
following a Europa League matchday this season.
A forlorn David Moyes described it as the "worst performance" he had ever seen in his 9 years in
charge of Everton as his side limped to a 2-0 defeat against Bolton yesterday. The performance in
the defeat went someway to explaining the current predicament Everton find themselves in, but it
was Moyes, slumped and stony-faced, looking tired and haggard that betrayed the trouble the
Merseyside club are in.
Starting Tuesday, the last 16 teams in the Champions League start to fight it out for the
championship of all Europe. This was the weekend before the big show for eight of those teams,
which tends to be a time where their mostly smaller opponents see a chance for an upset, as the big
boys rest players and prepare.

In what was an important game for both teams, it was Tottenham that huffed and puffed and
finally showed their class to overcome a dogged Sunderland side at the Stadium of Light
Saturday.
In a week where Tottenham were beaten to the Olympic Stadium by rival bidders West Ham, this win
kept them on track for Europe and propelled them into a Champions League place.
International week and all eyes are on the stadium formerly known as Lansdowne Road as Scotland
make their debut in the Carling Nations Cup.
Making their debut and already playing catch-up after Ireland set the early pace with a 3-0 win
over Wales last night.
Ewan Murray has more on the background to the tournament on The Guardian sports blog including the
travails the Irish FA have been having with ticket sales.

In our last Premier League encounter, I wrote that the demons had finally been lifted and it
looked as though the famous CFC were beginning to find their sea legs once more. It might have been
pre-emptive, and it could easily have been considered a classic case of drinking the proverbial
kool-aid.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it
was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the
season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of
despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to heaven,
we were all going direct the other way in short, the period was so far like the present period,
that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the
superlative degree of comparison only.
Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon is winning praise from his teammates after consistent excellent
performances against the Premier League's top strikers.
Gordon just recently was his team's star performer in a win at Blackpool, denying Luke Varney on a
on-on-one and twice acrobatically tipping over efforts from the much wanted Charlie Adam.

New Man City signing, Dzeko is settling in with his new team and has obviously been trained on
the finer points of trash talking. According to him, "I hear a lot about the fans — that most of
the people from Manchester are Manchester City fans" which elicited a laugh at the news conference.
He hasn't even played a game for them and he's already immersing himself full on into the local
rivalry.
