Restoring the Romance of the Copa del Rey

La Liga Talk 29 October @ 03:45 AM EST

If the Copa del Rey is played, but hardly anyone cares about it, did it really happen? To say that some of the La Liga teams think of the cup as a nuisance would be quite an understatement. With the overloaded fixture list consisting of European and domestic matches, the Copa del Rey is near the bottom of the top teams' priorities.

Vive le Foot!

Sanford's Soccer Net 09 October @ 01:07 PM EST
The ever troubled French national team will be facing the Faroe Islands @ Guingamp, the 2009 winner of the Coupe de France and "birthplace" of the current Chelsea partnership of Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda. The match should be a formality but even with a win against Austria at Stade de France on Wednesday , it will take a miracle to see France finish first of group 7 and qualify directly for the World Cup. Pitch Invasion 06 August @ 04:21 PM EST

France's Champions Trophy took place with some success in French Canada a couple of weeks ago, the regular preseason contest between the French league and cup winners held outside France for the first time. Most of the impressive crowd of 34,000+ present in Montreal would have instantly recognised the winners Bordeaux, of course, but their opponents may have been less familiar to fans when they first read about the contest En Avant Guingamp are hardly a household name around the world, after all.

Can Bordeaux win the CL?

Soccerblog 05 August @ 08:17 AM EST

Les Girondins stock is incredibly high because Laurent Blanc whose footballing IQ must make him the Albert Einstein of the sport has fashioned a team in which "eleven players think the same thing at the same time."

The French Ligue threw up so many surprises last season. Lyon's uninterrupted reign was finally ended and Guingamp won the Coupe De France.

Fixing The US Open Cup And Looking Into The Future

Major League Soccer Talk 27 May @ 04:31 PM EST

I have been a big supporter of this lovely tournament ever since I saw the old Thomas R. Dewer Cup being surrounded by DC United in a MLS Merchandize catalog back in 1997. Just getting into the sport you always knew about the league and the Cup playoffs, but never about the US Open Cup till someone informed me what it's about.
