Despite missing Obafemi Martins (knee), Shalrie Joseph (hamstring), Steve Zakuani (groin) and Osvaldo Alonso (birth of daughter), the Seattle Sounders certainly did not look like a depleted team early. In the tenth minute, the always explosive Eddie Johnson scored on a corner kick service from Mauro Rosales, and Seattle were up 1-0.
The only goal of the match came when the Portland Timbers won a corner kick and kept pounding away at the goal mouth. They would eventually score after a Ford save and Yedlin clearance stopped earlier attempts on goal. Much of the game was similar as the Seattle Sounders were out-of-synch and pushing deep reserves and non-roster players against a lineup much closer to starting XI from Porter's side.
Granted, the surface is a little moist due to the recent rainfall, but just look at this divvy from aKazakhstansemi-pro side struggling to take a corner properly.
It's BASIC STUFF dude...
(Thanks to Nuno for the tip-off, five Pies Pointsâ„¢ are winging their way to you Sir!
Juan Carlos was envisaging a nice out-swinger for one of his team-mates to attack as he prepared to take a corner kick against Real Sociedad at the weekend. Instead he destroyed the corner flag and left the ball sitting exactly where he left it. There's not really an outcome to this situation that isn't embarrassing [.
Here's Real Betis winger Juan Carlos filing a solid entry in the 'Worst Corner EVAH' stakes against Real Sociedad the other night...
That Sir, was bloody risible! Anyway, nice try Juan, but we fear Wilson Palacios is still in pole position with his marvelously lame dribbler vs Besiktas last season.
Thierry Henry scored the first and last goals in the New York Red Bulls' 3-1 win against Columbus Crew and he finished off his brace in spectacular fashion with a goal scored off the back post directly from a corner kick in the third minute of injury time.
Columbus' backup keeper Matt Lampson had just come off the bench in the 85th minute and Henry took advantage of that fact by duping him into thinking he was going to take a short corner.
Perhaps rejuvenated by winning the MLS Cup last season and making frequent trips back to England
to visit the royals and serve as an Olympic mascot throughout this season, David Beckham is
enjoying a very productive year. He now has seven goals on the season (his previous best was five
in 2008, his first full season in the league) after scoring with a typically perfect free kick in a
2-0 win against Vancouver on Saturday.
David Beckham was credited with scoring an Olimpico goal in the LA Galaxy's 5-2 CONCACAF
Champions League win against Salvadorian club Isidro Metapan. The goal came just before halftime
and ended up being the 1,000th goal in the history of the CONCACAF Champions League.
Though Beckham's corner looked like it was curling towards the far side netting, goalkeeper
Fidel Mondragon ensured it went in by blocking the ball into the near side netting over the head of
a teammate.
CARSON, Calif.--The LA Galaxy took down Isidro Metapan 5-2 on Thursday night in their opening
CONCACAF Champions League match, but the win wasn't nearly as comfortable as the scoreline would
suggest.
Despite flurry of second half cards, including the bizarre sending off of captain Robbie Keane,
the Galaxy managed to hold off a quick and dangerous Metapan side.
QUEENS, N.Y. - The William and Mary men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision
Saturday night to No. 12 St. John's at Belson Stadium. The College cut the Red Storm lead down to a
goal after sophomore Marcus Luster netted his first career score in the 69th minute. However, the
Tribe was unable to tie the match as it fell to 1-2-1 on the year, while St.

Nobody should question Chicago Fire captain Logan Pause's threshold for pain and drive to return
to the field from injury after what transpired in the last month.
During an Aug. 12Â game against the Philadelphia Union, Pause, 31, was defending a corner kick
when Bakary Soumare, his former teammate on the Fire and current Union defender making his team
debut, elevated for the ball, inadvertently striking Pause from behind.
BRIDGEVIEW, IL- On a night when the Chicago Fire needed a result badly to keep their playoff
prospects strong, Patrick Nyarko helped deliver a dream start.
The rest of Nyarko's FIre teammates saw to it that the perfect start culminated in the ideal
result.
Yep, you read that right, a 1-1 win. Let's be honest, any result in Honduras other than a loss
was going to be a tremendous positive. Falling down a goal early, losing Nathan Sturgis to a red
card and still pulling off a draw...well that's just epic.
The Dynamo are now in the drivers seat for qualification in to the knockout stages of the
tournament.

After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of
the New England Revolution players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5
average, 10 perfection).
There was nothing on the line for the New England Revolution and Philadelphia Union when they
squared off at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night, and it is probably a good thing.
Two teams playing out the string put together a forgettable 90 minutes of soccer and wound up
settling for a 0-0 draw.
The New England Revolution made history tonight as they extended their winless streak to 10
games, more than any other team in the club's history.
Playing host to the Philadelphia Union for the only time this season, coach Jay Heaps decided to
shake up the lineup tonight in lieu of recent performances as well as various injuries and fatigue
as they entered the second of their three game home-stand spanning just 8 days.
Shalrie Joseph made himself feel quite at home at Gillette Stadium Wednesday night.
In his return to the place he called home since 2003 until a trade sent him across the country
to Chivas USA, Joseph scored two goals to spark a three-goal comeback and help the Goats salvage a
3-3 draw against the Revolution to keep their faint playoff hopes alive.
The LA Galaxy cruised to a home victory over FC Dallas and Sporting KC were held at home by the
Red Bulls in Major League Soccer on August 26, 2012.
Los Angeles Galaxy 2-0 FC Dallas
The Galaxy solidified their playoff chances with a strong home at the Home Depot Center. Juninho
scored his third goal in two matches in the 66th minute and Todd Dunivant sealed the win with an
84th minute strike.
Liverpool had a late second half lead but had to settle for a draw as Manchester City
capitalized on a defensive lapse in the EPL on August 26, 2012. The Reds were the stronger side for
most of the match and both City goals were basically gifts.
City did not have a great start as Liverpool took a 1-0 lead on a Martin Skrtel goal.
Manchester United defeated Fulham 3-2 in the English Premier League on Saturday, August 25,
2012. It is United's first win of the season while Fulham suffer their first loss of the
season.
Fulham started things off quickly with a third minute Damien Duff goal. It was on a free kick
which was a pass into the box that Duff  volleyed just inside the near post.
Chelsea scored three second half goals to get a 4-2 victory over Reading in the English Premier
League on Wednesday, August 22, 2012.
It was another strong performance from new signing Eden Hazard who earned a penalty kick in the
18th minute. Frank Lampard stepped up and converted the penalty by slotting it just inside the left
post.

GERMANTOWN, Md. – The Virginia men's soccer team opened its regular-season schedule with a tough

Maya Hayes does her best Sydney Leroux after scoring against Ghana
There's is still much soccer to be played in the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, but the USA got
off to a great start on searing Monday afternoon at the Hiroshima Big Arch Stadium, defeating Ghana
4-0 with three goals from forward Maya Hayes and an own goal that was earned when Morgan Brian
smashed a header off the crossbar off a corner kick from Vanessa DiBernardo.
It's halftime at Gillette Stadium and both teams have struggled to get ahead of the other. The wind is blowing and the elbows are swinging, providing the Foxboro faithful with a raucous, chippy first half but with only a handful of chances for the two clubs.
The first clear chance came for Sporting Kansas City in the 19th minute when a corner kick found its way into the Revs' penalty area, and was rebounded within the 6-yard box.
D.C. United ended their first Florida stint of this preseason with a come-from-behind 1-1 draw against Malmö FF. United equalized in the second half through a header by trialist Nane off of a corner kick. If you'd like more details on the match or some photos, I suggest heading over to dcunited.
Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan scored his first goal of the season in spectacular fashion. Gaitan opened the scoring against Estoril from a corner kick 37 minutes into the match with a flying backheel volley that floated over his teammate's head and into the far side of the net, bringing back memories of Gianfranco Zola against Norwich.
Kickapoo Senior Connor Heeren chips in the corner kick for a goal
Springfield, MO The Kickapoo Chiefs had a plate full on Tuesday night as they hosted the visiting Carthage Tigers. It was Senior night for Kickapoo as they celebrated the time thirteen of their boys had spent playing soccer for them.
A crazed pitch invader attacked a linesman during a stoppage in play at a match between Chernomorets Odessa and Metalist in Ukraine. The man, a Chernomorets fan, lunged at the linesman while the officials conversed with the Chernomorets manager about a corner kick awarded to Matelist and grabbed him by the throat while pushing him backwards.
Frem goalkeeper Jakob Kohler proved to his his side's secret weapon in a Danish Second Division
East (the third tier of Danish football) match against Birkerod. In the 92nd minute, with Birkerod
up 1-0, Kohler came forward for Frem's last-ditch effort to equalize off a corner kick.
After the ball was headed away from goal and a Frem shot was blocked by a defender, Kohler
executed a beautiful overhead kick off the deflection and, to the surprise of everyone, scored an
equalizer.
What a difference a few days made for the Colorado Rapids and Portland Timbers.
After Portland stifled the Rapids with a 1-0 result at Jeld-Wen Field last Friday to put the
2010 MLS Cup winners in last place in the Western Conference, the Rapids bounced back with a
comprehensive 3-0 victory over the Timbers at Dick's Sporting Goods Park Wednesday night.
(Springfield, Mo.) Kendra Wood (Rolla, Mo./Rolla)'s goal in the 108th minute (pictured) gave the
Missouri S&T Lady Miners a 2-1 double OT win over Washburn on Sunday in Springfield, Mo. It's the
first time the Lady Miners have started a season 2-0 since 2003 when they opened with three
straight wins.
Well, at least it wasn't a loss. The game had some positives (like seeing Cruz getting more and
more involved), some negatives (like Cruz doing Pajoy impressions with his sky-shots), and some
"well, that's interesting"' (like Adu seeing so little time on the field).
There's little time to stew over it though as there is a quick turn-around with a Wednesday game
this week.
szólj hozzá: Liverpool vs Man City 2:2 MATCH HIGHLIGHTS
Liverpool bossed the game and took the lead with a Martin Skrtel header after a brilliantly
struck corner kick from Steven Gerrard. Yaya Toure equalised just after the hour following a Pepe
Reina mistake, but just three minutes later Joe Hart was picking the ball out of the net after Luis
Suarez brillintly curled the ball home from a free-kick 25 yards from goal.

home victory past the visiting University of Richmond from the Atlantic 10 Conference Friday night
at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.
The Dynamo went to El Salvador and all they got was a lousy t-shirt...and three points! Goals
from Brian Ching, Cam Weaver and Je-Vaughan Watson led Houston over C.D. FAS 3-1.
The switch back to a 4-4-2 formation led to a near dream first half for the Dynamo with goals
from Ching and Weaver.
If Alejandro Bedoya and Helsingborg are to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage, they'll
need to pull off an inspired road performance.
The Swedish champions conceded a second-minute goal to Kris Commons that set the tone for
Celtic's 2-0 victory in the first leg of their final qualifying round tie, one that happened on
Helsingborg's home ground.
Curtis Weir scored directly off a corner kick in the 59th minute as DePaul
topped host UW-Milwaukee 1-0 in a men's exhibition match Monday at Engelmann Stadium.
"I was very pleased with today's performance," Kris Kelderman said in a news
release following his first match as Panthers coach.
