Throughout the 2010 World Cup in South Africa there were calls to ban the vuvuzela, primarily because of the ear drum-persecuting drone that they insist upon. Now there's an even more pressing reason to cork the plastic horns one has been used to assault a match official! The sour note happened in the first [.
The World Cup ends. Club football begins. Thank God.
Still, can't believe it has arrived so soon.
Our beloved Chelsea Football Club opens its preseason calendar on Saturday yes, Saturday when
Crystal Palace welcome the boys to Selhurst Park for an afternoon friendly. Chelsea TV will have
the match for those of you who are afforded their services (not I).
Blackburn manager Steve Kean fell victim to a rather cruel prank during his side's pre-season trip
to Cork. The Rovers boss had kindly taken the time to sign autographs and pose for photos with
fans. He was just posing for one final photo when the cheeky Irish chap who had requested the
picture started chanting [.
The annual Shrovetide Tuesday football match kicked off in Ashbourne, Derbyshire yesterday and,
as is plainly visible from the photos below, the whole shebang reached levels of complete
pandemonium very quickly as per usual. It's all so absurdly 'English' that it positively hums
with rural whimsy.
Team GB fell to an almost unmentioned 1-0 defeat to Mexico on Sunday as they prepared for the
London 2012 Olympic games. Stuart Pearce's side played the behind-closed-doors friendly at the new
St George's Park training centre, in Burton, with the media excluded from the match. Footage of the
game has eventually leaked out though, [.

As we all know Frank Arnesen has announced that he is leaving the club when his contract expires at
the end of the season. People have a very divided opinion about Arnesen. There are people with the
opinion that he hasn't done enough and people who have the opposite opinion. Arnesen himself
commented himself the other day and stated that he believes the club should be very excited.
Last night, Daniel Sturridge kept hope alive for the Three Lions in their bid to progress to the
2011 UEFA European Under-21 Championship in Denmark. Sturridge's deft chip after 32 minutes

9 leaders Greece via the 1-0 win.

I think it's a question that people will be debating for a long time if I am honest. We all know
there is pressure in football, every single club has a degree of pressure on them whether it's to
challenge for honours, to finish in the top half of the table or to avoid relegation. I honestly
believe that the pressures of success in the Premier League has affected the youngsters coming
through.
Fabio Borini is expected to line up for Swansea tomorrow in the play off final against Reading in
what is considered as the richest game in the world as whoever wins is promoted into the Premier
League. Borini found is chances at Chelsea limited to say the least and as we all know had to go
out on loan to find himself regular first team football and we have to hold our hands up and say he
has done well.
Jack Cork has spoken of the situation he finds himself at in a key point in his career and doesn't
see his future with Chelsea. Featured in the Mirror, Cork has spoken of his intention to see out
the remainder of this season and to then decide and see what happens. He said:
"I just want to finish my season and reflect on it at the end and see what everyone
wants me to do, I'm not sure yet.
Gems of the Lower Leagues: Jack Cork is a post from: Just Football
by Theo Fan
21 year old Jack Cork, son of former Wimbledon player and current Sheffield
United assistant manager Alan Cork, is currently enjoying the best form of his early career. Under
the new and more creative style of Burnley manager Eddie Howe the young midfielder
is being looked to to provide his skills and work rate in midfield with a regularity that
highlights just how much his exciting brand of midfield play brings to the table.
- It's been one of my busier sporting weeks, I guess anytime you end up at the
Aviva Stadium and Croke Park in the space of a few days has to be categorised as such.
Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn is backing Cork born midfielder, David Meyler to return
from his injury nightmare stronger than ever.
The Ireland u21 international returned to training with Sunderland this week after cruciate
ligament damage, but it will be some time before the Irishman is back in red-and-white
stripes.
Javier Mascherano maybe about to start rubbing his hands at being on the verge of a move out of
Anfield in the next 48hrs, to his preferred choice of Barcelona (or was that Inter?) but while he
gets ready to pop the cork of the champagne, Roy Hodgson like many others in the game thinks a
little deeper on the subject.

Sakiewicz pulls the cork on Nowak's reign with Union (With Video) - delcotimes.com

else. See the links below for a column by one of Vito's colleagues for opinion.
John Smallwood: Union shrouds reason for Nowak's firing in secrecy
Smallwood asks questions about the answers that were given to him and the other reporters at
yesterday's press conference.
Morning all, today starts with a mild *boilk* but it's not my fault. It's all
the fault of The Man from East Lower who has left his comfortable surrounds and is in Dublin
instead and insisted that I drink beer with him.
"No," I said, "I am an abstemious man who rarely partakes of the demon drink, especially around
this most holy of times.
Good news for those of you keeping tabs on our suddenly-replete-with-talent youth squad. More,
after the jump:
I shall dub thee 'Irish' for short
First things first, props to the entire youth set-up for advancing through to the quarterfinals
of the FA Cup for chitlins (that's children for those of you that haven't spent time in the
south).
Less than two weeks ago, Arsenal legend George Eastham celebrated his 75th birthday, in
comfortable retirement in South Africa. He is best remembered by his peers as a skillful inside
forward with an exceptional eye for a pass. Qualities that led to 19 England caps and selection to
the 1966 World Cup squad.
Wes Sneijder has been busy this morning, cork-screwing his metaphorical dagger into the hearts
of thousands of Manchester United fans across the globe by regaling Dutch daily AD with tales of
just how close he came to turning up at Old Trafford over the summer:
"I just felt that it was close, yes [I thought I was going to join Manchester United].
Alvaro Fernandez says, "Eh Dallas? You want history? I got 'ya history right heee." (I know he's
not an Italian mobster. But it just works better). Just when you think MLS has popped the cork on
some history and plopped back on a recliner to take stock of the full measure of its
accomplishment, Seattle storms Castle Monterrey and, well, did it again a week later.
Jack Cork, a part of the Chelsea academy since he was nine, follows in the footsteps of several
of our older youth squad members in departing the Blues. He has signed a four-year deal with
newly-promoted Championship side Southampton after spending last season on loan at Burnley. He also
delivered a little parting comment about Chelsea's youth system on his Twitter account (which was
promptly deleted).
Sammy Sosa's infamous corked bat is for sale. When the incident occurred in 2003, Chicago Cubs
teammate Mike Remlinger hid the bat in his locker for Sosa. After holding onto the corked bat for
seven years, Remlinger has now put it up for auction. According to Remlinger, he first attempted to
give the corked bat back to Sosa, but Sosa didn't respond so he has made it available for a
hardcore Cubs fan to purchase.
