See The Cup 06 November @ 08:34 PM EST

Copa Sudamericana reached the semifinals, two Brazilian clubs had the chance to be in the final 4. However, only Fluminense did so. Flu visited Universidad de Chile and one more time relied on Fred. The ex-Lyon seems to be playing for all the matches he did nothing since the beginning of the year.

The world's top 25 soccer clubs, Nov. 2, 2009

Soccer Source 02 November @ 12:25 AM EST
Welcome to November. A week of domestic competition is behind us. This week clubs go back to work in the Champions- and Europa Leagues (as well as the Copa Sudamericana but those clubs do not figure in the Top 25 at this point). Here's where they stand ahead of a crucial week in those competitions:

Return from the dead

SANTOS FOOTBALL CLUB 25 October @ 11:48 AM EST
Hey guys, I'm back from the dead. Due to commitments with school I haven't had time to update. However, I'll be hard at work with a new format to the posts. That includes translating and posting articles from Globoesporte, Futebol Uol Esporte, and of course the club's official website. I think this would be the best way to keep others up to date on the workings of the club. Click to continue reading...

Sudamericana: Bad Start for Brazil in the Quarter-finals

See The Cup 24 October @ 12:36 AM EST

The two Brazilian clubs still in the Copa Sudamericana did not start well the quarter-finals of Copa Sudamericana. Botafogo and Fluminense will have a lot of work if they plan to advance to the semis. Botafogo visited Cerro Porteno in Paraguay and lost 2-1. Reinaldo scored for Bota, but if the club from Rio wants to advance, it must win at Maracana.

The irony? Those two clubs are in the relegation zone of Campeonato Brasileiro. This shows how much Brazilian clubs care about this competition and how low its level is. Botafogo and Fluminense are the ones trying not only to save the season, but also to save Brazil's reputation in the tournament.

Goals from two meaningless matches

Hasta El Gol Siempre 01 October @ 03:24 PM EST
One of the matches on Wednesday night featured a 'national' team playing Ghana in Córdoba. Martín Palermo scored both goals and, as a result, has convinced everyone in the press that he'd be ideal to play as the number 9 in the World Cup qualifiers against Peru, ahead of Diego Milito and Gonzalo Higua'in. Video: Brazil Sucks in the Sudamericana

In the opening leg of the round of 16, Brazilian clubs showed how much this tournament is of interest. Out of the 5 clubs, just one, Botafogo, won. Playing as visitors, Vitoria and Goias had defeats which are not likely to be reversed in Brazil. Fluminense visited the second the last side of the Peruvian league, and just tied (well, just look where Flu is in the Brasileirao too.
