The 2012 African Cup of Nations begins this weekend with two host nations, Equatorial Guinea and
Gabon, which have such a limited record in this competition. The former has never qualified for an
African Cup of Nations before and will be an unknown quantity to most observers of this year's
tournament whilst the latter have competed in just four previous tournaments and have only
progressed beyond the group stage on just one occasion when reaching the last eight in 1996.

Abby Wambach to win the FIFA Women's World Player of the year 2011.
Marta who was looking to win the award for a 6th consecutive time had to contend with a second
place finish while Abby Wambach of the USA came in in third place.
Lionel Messi won the FIFA Balon d'OR for the second consecutive time after the inception of the
award last year. With this victory he has won the FIFA World Player of Year and Balon d'Or for the
third consecutive time. It was a no btainer from the time the three man shortlist was
announced.
The Philadelphia Union announced on Tuesday that the 2012 season opener will take place against
Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field on Monday, March 12.
Kickoff will be at 9:30pm EST and the match will be nationally broadcast on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes
and ESPN3.
The Union recently announced that the home opener will take place on Sunday, March 18.
I am a big fan of Brazilian legend Pele, however, his recent remarks about players from other
nationalities is sad to say the least. Only a few weeks ago, Pele was in the news making similar
comments regarding Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi. This time, Pele has shifted his
attention to England international Wayne Rooney.
