Must Win

Down the Byline 03 October @ 03:12 PM EST
If the Wizards want to make the playoffs this year, they're likely going to have to win out. Sure they are only 6 points out at the moment, but with so many other teams between them and the 8th playoff spot, KC is going to likely need to grab all 12 available remaining points to get into the post season. Lynn University at UT men

Against The Run Of Play 03 October @ 08:39 AM EST
When: Tonight, 7pm
Where: Pepin Stadium
The top ranked Division II school, Lynn University (10-0-0) comes to town tonight and the Spartans aim to knock off the number one team and recapture the top spot. UT was in the top spot until their September 18th draw at West Florida, which tumbled them down to fifth spot. Click to continue reading...

Scoreless in KC

View From The Couch 28 September @ 08:08 PM EST
Colorado finished its stretch of 3 games in 8 days with a quiet draw in Kansas City. Honestly there isn't much to say about this game. The Rapids were obviously hoping to steal 3 points by scoring on a counter-attack and sneaking out of town with a 1-0 win, but otherwise were happy with a scoreless draw. KC vs. Colorado. Let Herm and Jim tell you what I think.

The Offside - Kansas City Wizards 28 September @ 04:12 PM EST

Needing a win against a depleted Colorado team on their 3rd game in one week the Wizards earned a point at home and basically kissed their playoff aspirations good bye. Only winning out and getting a lot of help will keep KC from watching the MLS playoffs from home.

So the Wizards, in their typical "must win" situation, playing a team on their 3rd game this week, which was missing at least 4 starters, finished the game with 4 defenders and a holding mid and not getting a goal.

A Time To Shine

Pistolas F.C. 12 September @ 09:29 PM EST
TORONTO - With many regulars out of the lineup for this Sunday's Semi Final, the challenge falls upon two silent workhorses to up their games, and provide the spark to victory.
Both Conrad Chan and Ivano the Raging Bull have missed their fair share of matches to both injuries and personal reasons. Click to continue reading...

DC United win vs KC Wizards, 1-0

DCUMD 09 September @ 11:09 PM EST
That wasn't exactly how I wanted to see us play against one of the worst teams in the league, but a win is a win, and somehow I still feel like we earned this one. It definitely took this team 30 minutes or so to settle in, and gave up way too many chances during those first 30 minutes, but we looked like the better team in the second half, and ultimately we prevailed. Watch Parties Tonight/No JC Show

Hillcrest Road 09 September @ 11:19 AM EST
Since the team plays tonight in Washington, D.C., Mr. Conrad will not be available for his weekly radio show. You can, however, head to watch parties to watch the USA World Cup Qualifier at 6 p.m. CT and then our game against D.C. United at 6:30 p.m. CT. We know that last weekend was not the best experience for people, but both 810 Zones have pledged TV space and sound for this event. Click to continue reading...

A Win Please

Down the Byline 28 August @ 04:34 PM EST
I'm honestly tired of this winless streak, how about you? The Wizards haven't won since they beat New England back in June (I'm sounding like a broken record saying that, but it's true). Tomorrow night the Wizards welcome Real Salt Lake to CAB. The good news for Wizards fans is that Real Salt Lake is not a good road team. Click to continue reading...

KC-RSL pregame. Can we score a goal please? Anyone?

The Offside - Kansas City Wizards 28 August @ 04:03 PM EST

Real Salt Lake comes into town this weekend after trouncing Chivas USA on Wednesday. That's a perfect recipe for disaster for a team like the Wizards that has scored ONE goal in it's last 6 games (7 if you count the loss vs. Seattle for the US Cup).

I didn't go out to Swope Park to watch practice this week so my lineup prognostication will probably a bit off (vs.

A Win? A Goal Maybe?

Down the Byline 21 August @ 06:45 PM EST
Five without a win in league play, 10 in all competitions, the Wizards are struggling mightily. They are current 9 points out of a playoff spot with the Wizards having 11 games to play. Tomorrow the Wizards play the last place team in the Western Conference, San Jose in what is basically a must win for both teams if they have hopes of making the playoffs. On the road again and hoping for a goal

The Offside - Kansas City Wizards 21 August @ 02:52 PM EST

The Wizards are running out of time to right the ship and try to make a run up the table. They visit the Earthquakes in a match between teams that certainly had higher expectations for the 2009 than what they have been able to achieve up to now.

I liked the effort and the passing from KC last weekend (they tried to get away from "everything is a long ball" style of play) but their finishing let them down and they got shut out once again.

Another Tough Loss For PFC

Pistolas F.C. 19 August @ 09:00 AM EST
*written by Pistolas Director / Player Davidinho*
Hot and humid conditions, mixed in with a shortfall of players, proved a dangerous mix for PFC this past Sunday.
Nine men and keeper took the field against Those Guys FC, resulting in a painful 3-2 loss for Pistolas FC, as they continue their slide down the standings. Click to continue reading...

The Worst Football Team in the World?

FOOTBALLSUP 13 August @ 05:00 AM EST

Two Londoners have flown 8,000 miles to the tiny pacific island of Pohnpei to (attempt to) coach their national football team. Pohnpei's last international match took place five years ago, and ended as a 16-0 loss to Guam. So they're not in great form. Yeovil have kindly donated last seasons kit for them to play in, and, brilliantly, they have adopted and adapted Portsmouth's chant - 'Play up Pohnpei'.

Tweet Tweet: American Soccer Stars on Twitter

Advantage Played 23 July @ 10:04 PM EST
My Twitter evolution is gradual and slow. While most people manage to grab hundreds of followers by following random morons and being awesome people I've probably been way too cautions. I first followed the blogs I liked, and then when I felt like blogs were just a big dick contest I tried to just follow the people who didn't have blogs and just followed me because they probably liked my blog. Opinion: The Missing Magnificent Seven

US Soccer by the Numbers 20 July @ 11:58 AM EST

Is Bob Bradley the poorest planner in history?

When I first learned that Bob Bradley was being given seven additional players from which he could set his game-day rosters, I argued on this blog that Bradley should select seven 'men', i.e., seven A-team players who could be used to help secure victories and, ultimately, a championship for the U.

Roommates and Teammates

U.S. MNT Blog 06 July @ 07:30 AM EST
One of the first things players look at upon arrival is the rooming list to see who they will spending their non-field quality time with during the camp. With veterans the patterns are pretty well established, but with such a young group the pairings are a little less predictable. Or are they?
Here's a look at some of the roommates. Click to continue reading...

Wizards Beat Meance

The KC Wizards and Swope Park Rangers took part in a scrimmage today against PDL side, the Des Moines Menace today at the Swope Park training complex. Unfortunately I didn't find out about the game until after it had already started so I missed the beginning of the game. In the first half though, the Wizards starters (minus Santiago Hirsig who was rested due to a minor injury) played against the Menace. Click to continue reading...

To LA

Down the Byline 29 May @ 04:24 PM EST
The Wizards travel to LA this weekend to take on the Galaxy at the Home Depot Center tomorrow night. LA comes into the game on the backs of an 8 game unbeaten run. While that 8 game run might sound impressive, the Galaxy only have 1 win in that time frame, the other 7 games have been draws. In their last game, LA was a man up for 65 minutes against lowly FC Dallas and were only able to grab a draw. Click to continue reading...

Pistolas FC Light It Up For Victoria Day

Pistolas F.C. 28 May @ 11:58 PM EST
MOUNT JOY - Not even Hans Moleman himself, patrolling up and down the near side of our bench with a cane...er... flag, could ruin the smashing victory that took place this past Sunday.
