We have had a great deal of discussion this week about officials' bias in CONCACAF towards
Mexico. However, I was a bit disappointed that many American fans see the US as a victim in all
this. The truth be told, the US benefits from much of the same bias, albeit perhaps from different
parts within CONCACAF.

Sigi Schmid has created a tremendous culture within the Seattle Sounders FC, and his players buy
into what he is preaching.
A great example of this is Brad Evans - after returning from a stint with the US National team at
the CONCACAF Gold Cup, he found himself out of the lineup after Peter Vagenas had stepped into his
role.

Labor Day has come and gone, the sun is setting earlier, and, even here in Houston, the air
contains a slight fall crispness. Yes, the Summer of Soccer is over, and what an interesting summer
it has been. Back on Father's Day, like a Phoenix, the US National Team rose from the ashes of its
first two group stage matches in the Confederations Cup to advance to the semifinals where it
shocked the football world by easily beating Spain, which was ranked by FIFA as the top national
team at the time.

As hard as it is to come from behind after conceding a goal, sometimes there are challenges with
playing a goal up as well. As SI's Grant Wahl reports, the US has struggled to hold onto leads in
recent matches.
It's a team that this summer alone has taken leads against Italy, Spain, Brazil and Mexico in
games that matter, a cause for optimism among U. Click to continue reading...
How would someone characterize US Soccer's Summer of 2009? The extreme optimist would say that the
US made a non-CONCACAF tournament major final for the 1st time by ending Spain's world record
streak, then with a "B" side made it to the final of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
The extreme pessimist would say that the United States squad blew a massive opportunity to
establish themselves as a major world footballing nation with their collapse in the 2nd half
Confederations Cup final.

about watching today's USA/Mexico World Cup qualifier (4pm ET, Telemundo and mun2). This is as big
as it gets in our nape of the woods/neck of the way, for a lot of reasons. I can't guarantee that
you'll see beautiful soccer played, but you will see intensity.

Losing 5-0 to Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup was a bitter pill to swallow, and three holdovers
from that US team have been called in for this important World Cup qualifier tomorrow. Brian Ching,
Stuart Holden and Chad Marshall all played key roles for the US in the Gold Cup, and as Soccer
America's Ridge Mahoney reports, are looking to set the wheels in motion to vindicate the loss to
their bitter rivals.

From a far off view, the MLS comes off as a far inferior league. A league that is not worthy
to talk about if David Beckham is not involved. The attendance is modest, and the salary cap
limits the quality of play.
These are just realities that the league and its fans deal with.
