You'll like this. The difference between success and failure in football can be minute you
need every edge you can get. And when you think about it, so much of football is in the mind. We
talk about teams playing with confidence: that's a mental state. We talk about players looking
nervous, or not knowing what they're supposed to be doing, or playing tentatively, or showing
complacency.

Baltimore Blast (10-3) vs. Norfolk SharX (1-11)

What needs to go right for the Blast:
- Put the game away early and continue the attack on the net: The Blast have been much
more aggressive attacking their opponents' net during their current five game winning streak.
It's that time of year again when I allow myself to go all misty-eyed about the FA Cup while the
less sentimental (and perhaps younger) among us tut-tut and denounce the old jug as a busted
flush.
The Champions League is bigger, bolder, more watched, more important and above all more
lucrative than the FA Cup, this we all know.
A run of three home fixtures is a welcome site as Spurs look to push on in the second half of
this season and secure a top four place at the very least. Following West Brom this evening,
Tottenham entertain Wolves and Everton in the league and while nine points is perfectly possible,
Harry Redknapp is warning against any complacency.
Arsenal 1-1 Wolves
Twenty-seven attempts on goal, eleven attempts on target, thirteen corners, one goal. Frustrating,
to say the least. The goals have dried up again at home (three in three league games – conceding
two in the process), giving Wenger a fresh headache to mull over as we head into the New Year.
A couple of points after yesterday's win:
* The game showed how far we've come since last season's post-Carling Cup final collapse. Those
defeats hurt, and so did the start of this season, but we ultimately managed to clear out a lot of
primadonnas and mediocre players from the squad.
Paul Davis: No time for complacency in fight against racism
When I started back in 1979, I used to get unbelievable amounts of abuse. I was about 17 or 18
and senior players around me were making racist jokes in training.

That's it then, Fabio's cracked it. The genius — the coach worth £6million a year — has

Booo, chilly this morning. This better not be the start of it now. Mother Nature needs a good
talking to.
Anyway, today is West Brom at home and last season this was a game which was one which generated
much frustration. I've looked back over the blog post and I was surprisingly magnanimous about West
Brom, giving them lots of credit for their performance, but there was obvious grumpiness at
Arsenal's.

Yes boss, I can run more now
Premier League returns again. West Brom are the opponents for today and it will be the last one
before yet another international break. The last break was something that we looked forward too,
having only just lost in the local derby. This time however, the break couldn't come at a more
inopportune time.

3. Profit
As the South Park Underpant Gnomes so crucially failed to diagnose, some things are a dashed sight
more difficult in practice than they appear on paper. Nota bene, ‘Arry and the assorted Hotspurs,
for bottom of the table Blackburn may be, but alas it is unlikely that they will simply roll over
and allow us to tickle their tummies before disappearing into the night with three points.

What type of captain is Liverpool FC's Steven Gerrard? The prevailing fan perception seems to be
that Gerrard leads by example on the pitch, but is somewhat lacking in the verbal leadership
stakes. What does Liverpool's Director of Football, Damien Comolli, think?
In a recent interview, Comolli gave his views on Gerrard's strengths as a captain:
"If everyone in the group has the right attitude, then you need leaders.
Ryan Giggs rightly is held in the highest regard by all true fans of the game, yet the question
remains whether he is past his sell by date. Certainly if one were to look at the facts and see he
has already scored two goals this season than the argument may seem ludicrous. However, his
performances this season have been marked with a sense of sluggishness and downright
complacency.
Campaigners demanding the truth about the Hillsborough disaster want to ensure no stone is left

Pressure is growing on both the Government and News International after MPs united in their support

For all the panic and soul-searching, then, England have qualified for next year's European
Championships in Poland and Ukraine, although their performance last night was again patchy and
hinted at a team that is likely to struggle against the very best in Europe next summer. Moreover,
England's night which should, or might, otherwise have been an evening for celebration of some sort
was further soiled by the decision of Wayne Rooney to take a kick at Miodrag Dzudovic with just
over fifteen minutes of the match left to play and get himself a red card and a suspension for the
start of next summer's tournament.
Every Russian fan will remember when Russia went into a seemingly easy World Cup qualifier

Shell shocked Gunners
Just when we asked for a little more consistency and building on recent improvements to go on a
little positive run of matches, this happened. Abysmal, is the only word I can find to fully
explain this defeat at Ewood Park. From having a 2-1 lead going into half time and seemingly in
full control of the game, we wilted in the second half.

It was dark when I got up this morning. That's rubbish. Dark is for sleeping in, definitely not
for getting up in. Unless it's the middle of the night and you have to go to the bathroom.
On arising, one should be bathed in soft, warm light and that light and warmth should remain
with one throughout the day until you decide it's time to sleep again.
Liverpool veteran Jamie Carragher admits he's in a battle to keep his first team place at

The 33-year-old's error against Bolton cost the Reds a clean-sheet in a 3-1 win against Owen

Potters.
Visiting Anoeta stadium is becoming a head-ache for Guardiola. Last season we ended losing well

Why complacency is as big a threat to England than Wales on Tuesday
The danger for England on Tuesday is that the memory of such an easy victory at the Millennium

penultimate Euro 2012 qualifier.

Liverpool makes the long trip down to Exeter City in the Carling Cup on Wednesday night and it's
vital we play a strong side.
Too often in recent years we've played weakened teams in the competition and been dumped out at an
early stage.
Let's go there and get a thumping win to boost confidence ahead of the league game against Bolton
next weekend.
It is hard to imagine that in seven days time the first game of the new season will have taken
place. There is a remarkably strange feeling about at the moment.
Possibly that feeling is down to Arsenal looking no better than at the tail end of last season
and there being only minute changes in the playing staff.
Over 1500 people were at Underhill to see Barnet host the Spurs XI for Lee Harrison's
testimonial. Most of that number were Bees fans but there were still little pockets of Spurs fans
dotted around the ground.
The majority of Spurs fans were there hoping to get a close look at our two young signings,
Soulemayne Coulibaly and Christian Ceballos.
