Woolwich Arsenal, the club that changed football. Have your name in the book as an official

I usually watch my games with the sound of the commentators as soft as possible. This is mostly
because I'm not interested in what they are saying.

Arsenal back-up goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski has expressed controversial views opposing the
introduction of goal-line technology in football, insisting that officiating errors are part of the
game.
A number of high-profile errors in recent years have prompted the International Football
Association Board to hold a decisive meeting regarding the issue on July 2.
Why Fernando Frequently Fails to Fire - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Useless. Flop. Goddamn waste of money. Adjectives are not too hard to come by when Fernando
Torres is the topic of discussion. Few footballers have fallen as far and as fast as the former
Liverpool hit man has in the past 2 seasons.
Nadal won again against Federer in the Australian Open semi-final this morning. The comparison
between the psychological advantage Nadal has over Federer with how the Blaugrana consistently
defeat the Merengue is an intriguing one.
In his past clubs Mourinho always had the solution to win the psychological game.
Not to be out-shown by the atrocious work being done in the press box, both the United States
and Panama turned in embarrassingly poor performances in what was, by far, the least attractive
game of soccer in the Klinsmann era. Graham Zusi grabbed the game's only goal in the 9th minute,
lashing home a cross that the US was lucky to see bounce off the back of hapless striker Teal
Bunbury's leg inside the Panamanian area.

If you've made plans for Thursday, February 2, cancel them. Because that evening marks the
Philadelphia premier of LADUMA at 7:30pm at the Ritz East. Made by two local filmmakers, Ashwin
Chaudhary and Jon Korn, Laduma is "the story of how soccer united the South African people against
Apartheid, and how the sport brought Americans together in the magical summer of 2010.

Hearty congrats to the USWNT who are currently storming their way through the CONCACAF Olympic
Qualifying tournament with so much ease that they're actually attracting criticism.
The last couple of seasons, seeing our midfield overrun, Wenger changed from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3.
This added more players in central midfield where too often we had lost vital games, but the
flip-side meant that the striker was isolated.
For 4-3-3 to work you need at least one of your three central midfielders to get into areas to
support the striker.
Jose Mourinho, the coach of Real Madrid, performed an interesting psychological ploy after El
Clasico. The manager said that the responsibility for the result rests solely with him, stating
that "victory has many father but defeat has only one, me". It was an obvious case of reverse
psychology, acknowledging the defeat was his but still attempting to get the Real Madrid fans on
side before they turn against him.

- Patrice Evra berating Hasseilbank , truestory
It's a world that knighted Sir Ryan of Giggshire for being the role model for modern
footballers. A world where an English footballer(who could it be?) talks about a foreigner diving,
headed by an organisation which probes itself for bribing.
One-Nil to the Arsenal seems like an apt score to mark the 125th anniversary of the club,
although there is an argument it doesn't really represent the Arsene Wenger era.
This game was anything but typical though. David Moyes took a surprisingly brave approach and
attacked Arsenal from the kick-off.

Why I think there is an agenda against Luis Suarez
There does seem to be an agenda against Luis Suarez. It is even damaging Liverpool's season,
such is the spotlight upon Suarez. Let's get it straight. The allegations that he racially abused
Patrice Evra happened nine weeks ago.
Morning to you from the vaguely more familiar surroundings of Arseblog Towers. A reasonable
night's sleep is a nice thing. And it just goes to show what an undemanding person I am. A great
night's sleep is not necessary, I don't want a spectacular night's sleep, just a middle of the
road, perfectly all right one.
In the past few weeks, we've had the opportunity to hear some new voices as co-commentators on
football coverage. There was Danny Mills, who was a surprise inclusion for the Manchester derby
earlier this season. But more recently we've been ...

It may sound odd to call a four goal win unspectacular, but that is exactly what it was. And
exactly what you want from Arsenal when facing the worst club in the Premier League. It may sound
negative, but it's possibly the best thing you can say about today's match.
Arsenal would line up exactly how Brenton described we would in the preview yesterday showing
you exactly why you should be reading the match previews.
The news (and now confirmation) that NBC Sports has hired Seattle Sounders match commentator Arlo
White as its lead man for MLS coverage is a loss for the Sounders and their fans but a much bigger
boost to the state of American soccer commentary. White came over from the BBC but not without some
familiarity with American sport as he had commentated a Super Bowl a few years before.
Ah, how annoying, eh? A nearly flawless "away to Arsenal" performance only undone because Thomas
Verbloodymaelen decided to make amends for his earlier own goal, thus turning an away win into a
1-1 draw. Pah.
Fulham as the live commentators never stopped saying were very organised. Sometimes Fulham
players must feel a bit like Pamela Anderson here: well yes, thank you, but there's more to me,
really there is.
CL Highlights: Napoli/Man City Commentators Martin Tyler and Ray Wilkins summed it up perfectly
before the game kicked off. The atmosphere at Napoli's decrepit stadium in Italy was absolutely
spectacular. This was a game that the fans and players...

What a thoroughly entertaining game of football that was. Even Robbie Williams, the greatest
entertainer known to mankind, had nothing on that.
The only thing missing was a pissed up Delia Smith coming onto the pitch and cooking a Sunday roast
(on a Saturday) at half-time.
To be fair though Norwich City were roasted enough as it was and had Delia showed then she would
have only overcooked them.
The 2011 MLS Cup Final at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California is only days away, and
with the Houston Texans on a NFL bye week, the Dynamo have been feeling the love in their home
city. On Wednesday evening a rally was held in Houston for the Dynamo before their departure to
California.

More than 14,000 tickets have been sold for the match, setting a record for the largest crowd to

Capello takes a leaf out of Mourinho's book - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
The anti-football of Mourinho and Capello can reap rewards, but more is needed for
England to be contenders for EURO 2012.
On the face of it, it was not overly surprising. The 7th best team in the world, England, beat
the best team in the world, Spain, 1-0 at home in a friendly international.
Blocked shots don't typically make the highlight reel. Of course, they don't, you might say -
they're a non-event. Well, they are, and they aren't. They're an event that wasn't of much
consequence in the scheme of things. But they are still "events" in the way that that the good
folks at companies like Opta think about them.

Each week the languagecaster team will explain a football phrase or cliche for learners of
English who love the sport. On this week's show we feature the phrase headless
chicken.
Edwin Van der Sar, one of the greatest Manchester United goalkeepers in the club's history, has
said that if his old club are going to be able to defeat Barcelona then they need to change their
style of play in midfield. Van der Sar has said his old team need 'to have more touches, be a
little less direct, and more intricate in their play' if they are to challenge, get closer and
eventually beat Barcelona.
There was a time where the entire world relied on Journalists for the news. World news, local
new, fashion updates, entertainment and sports, if you needed to know something about anything that
interested you, you went to the media in its various forms to get the latest. The radio would give
you the most up to date news in brief fashion, and the newspaper would give you the in-depth
version on your kitchen table with your breakfast before work.
For the second straight year, the Chicago Fire are not participating in the MLS Playoffs.
Despite a valiant turn around in the final games on the season, most notably the stunning comeback
against DC United, the Fire came up just short. As we enter the long and dark off-season the Fire
have many questions to answer before kicking a ball in 2012.
I normally hate Harry Potter references, but I'm too happy to care today.

thanks to Gumby for taking the time to write this, since all 4 of us were unavailable to recap.

Pressure grows on ITV and others to drop MacKenzie
Earlier in the week ITV sent a standard reply to questions about their use of Kelvin MacKenzie
on This Morning. MacKenzie was the editor responsible for the front page lies under the headline
"The Truth" in the Sun in 1989.
Video highlights and reaction
Last night, due to work and other commitments, I was unable to give this match my full
attention. I missed the first 20 minutes or so, and when I did get to see it I was standing in a
bar, watching a TV with no sound.
I have to say, it does give you a different perspective on things.
By J Hutcherson - WASHINGTON, DC (Oct 17, 2011) US Soccer Players -- During Saturday's Stoke City -
Fulham game, one of the commentators mentioned Fulham's tendency to play down the middle.
Specifically, Clint Dempsey's tendency to move toward center. This denies Fulham a fully formed
wide game. Fair enough point, especially when Fulham's offense stalled in a 2-0 loss at Stoke.
Becks clash after MLS match There was finger-poking and tempers flaring aplenty between LA Galaxy
star David Beckham or David as he's known to MLS commentators and Real Salt Lake coach Jason Kreis.
The pair exchanged words as they passed each other after the final whistle, before Becks decided he
wanted to take [.
Our recent performances have been more positive I think. We're still desperate for that elusive
Premier League win but I'm feeling much happier than I was a few weeks back. Tomorrow's going to be
a tough game to watch though. We'll all be on edge the longer we go without scoring and should we
go behind, well I think it might get ugly.
The transfer rumours over a new Spurs striker continue to hot up and as Leandro Damiao's stock
continues to rise, so does his alleged transfer fee. With figures of around £15m quoted back in
the summer, some stories have emerged suggesting that Internacional will be looking for a figure
nearer to £40m when the Brazilian season comes to an end.
He shoots, he scores! Or, if you happened to be Fernando Torres yesterday afternoon, you didn't.
There are several reasons why a Premier League match which had, as they say, a little bit of
everything, will most likely remembered for one moment of aberration, some connected to the
eye-watering amount of money that Chelsea played for said player, others through a sense of a
relief that it effectively ended much chance of a tight finish to a match that Manchester United
should have long since wrapped up, but most for reasons of good, old fashioned schadenfreude.
Ireland U21 international Robbie Brady could have scored a hat-trick, but ended up without
a goal to his name on Saturday, as Hull beat Portsmouth 1-0 at the KC Stadium.
The Manchester United on-loan winger was thwarted three times by Pompey keeper Jamie Ashdown, whose
heroics were enough to limit the Tigers to just one goal, scored by the equally impressive Robert
Koren early in the first-half.
According to the calendar, it is time to bash the first Old Firm match of this season. After
all, ample material currently exists to do so just on their recent performances in Europe alone.
Rangers failed to keep their European campaign alive past August whereas Celtic's grand
contribution was successfully challenging UEFA on the validity of an FC Sion squad that bested them
on the pitch and in so doing earned default 3-0 victories off the pitch.
I don't know about anyone else, but it kinda frustrates me when I watch football matches in the
Premier League and I hear commentators and the like praising a player or stating how important he
is... yet in my opinion that said player is actually massively over-rated, and rarely contributes
much to a game at all.
