The transfer rumor mill is in full force once again, and almost all of the rumors revolve around
some up and coming Spanish club that goes by the name of Real Madrid (surely a rip-off of the MLS
side Real Salt Lake). This time the rumors concern Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has a
rumored price tag of just £1.
This weekend's headlines were stolen by Emmauel Adebayor even before a ball was
kicked. Saturday morning, Adebayor finally lashed out at his former club Arsenal,
moments before the Gunners kicked-off a challenging visit to the
Eastlands.
While the summer months toil away and the transfer rumors get even more boring (or exciting if
you're a Football Manager fan), football fans around the world start to get excited for their
club's upcoming season. Will your club succeed? Will they fail? Will your star player remain
healthy? Who will Joey Barton hit next?
The following players have been known to have played abroad during the past 12 months, but have
since disappeared. There are also players I am looking for some further information on, in an
effort to track their careers and ensure whether or not they should be on Les Rosbifs. I would be
extremely grateful for [.
Manchester United may have hit the headlines for all the right reasons today, and Cristiano
Ronaldo's freekick certainly impressed the United faithful. What was far less impressive was the
manner in which Cristiano Ronaldo left the sacred Old Trafford pitch in the 60th minute.
With the game all wrapped up and a midweek fixture against Wigan forthcoming, Sir Alex Ferguson
elected to rest his most prized asset.
An update on matters here at Les Rosbifs. Transfer Gossip: In amongst all the megabucks deals for
Kaka, Gareth Barry and, um, Nathan Dyer, there have been plenty of rumours flying about too. One of
interest to Les Rosbifs is the possibility of Byron Webster, currently of FK Most in the Czech
Republic, moving back to the [.
The latest batch of new members of Les Rosbifs includes a batch of coaches who have not been
mentioned previously. Slipping under the radar for the past few months was Craig Short. The former
Everton, Derby County and Blackburn Rovers defender is assistant manager of Ferencvaros in Hungary
who, as we all know, are back [.
A special edition of the New Additions feature here on Les Rosbifs. Thanks to the wonderful people
on the SI Games forums, most notably their Australian researcher 'Roger', a whole host of
Englishmen have been dredged up and not just in the A-League. A whole host of English footballers
are kicking about in the [.
A few updates on members of Les Rosbifs, some potential members and some who have appeared or
disappeared from the list in recent days. Some recent discoveries have originated from emails
received or through the good people on the SI Games community forums. An interesting case was
brought to my attention by Mike Crocombe via email, [.
Fantastic news concerning Byron Webster, who we interviewed back in May whilst he was with Czech
side FK Siad Most. The Yorkshire youngster has clinched a move to Championship side Doncaster
Rovers following a successful trial. Webster, who has previously played for York City and a number
of northern non-league sides impressed in central defence [.
A number of Englishmen are off overseas following stints in England or, as in two cases, under the
tutelage of Glenn Hoddle at his academy based in Spain. Ikechi Anya was last seen in England last
season, playing for Northampton Town. Before that, he was at Wycombe Wanderers and then Hoddle's
academy.
A scour of the Welsh Premier League has thrown up over 100 players and managers plying their trade
over the border. Some have originated from English leagues lower down the pyramid, such as the West
Cheshire League, while others come from professional backgrounds – some more interesting than
others.
Some good news concerning Les Rosbif friend Lloyd Butler. Having been released by Geylang United in
Singapore, the former non-league striker has turned up playing for the Prime League (reserve) side
of crack team Singapore Armed Forces FC. It could represent a great move for young Butler, who, if
he impresses, looks a good bet [.
Now that the Coca Cola Championship has come to a halt (temporarily, at least, with the playoffs
still to be played), us Premier League fans have three new teams to look forward to seeing next
season. While only Wolves and Birmingham have locked up promotion spots for next season, within the
next few weeks we'll know who out of Reading, Burnley, Sheffield United, and Preston North End will
be playing top flight footbal come August.
It's beginning to smell a lot like Argentina around Merseyside. Reports coming out of White Hart
Lane indicate that Liverpool have made a shocking and audacious bid for current Manchester United
striker Carlos Tevez. Tottenham were preparing their own bid for Tevez, but have been left dejected
by Liverpool's much more attractive offer.
The final sweep of Les Rosbifs has led to as few more players leaving the list, the most notable of
whom is Tommy Mooney. The former Watford, Aston Villa, Scarborough, Southend United, Birmingham
City and Walsall (to name many) striker has decided to hang up his boots after an extensive career
spanning the English leagues.
Continuing on the theme of departures from the list, Michael Aspin is already leaving it having
returned from Nakhon Pathom of Thailand back to Northwich Victoria, where his comeback has been
warmly received. Another departure from the list is that of Simon Wiles. The midfielder was on a
short term contract at Dunfermline, with the [.
The pain of yesterday's mauling is likely to linger for a while. I still can't think straight
and it's impossible to digest that we could be so naïve, almost idiotic. This isn't a new feeling
either. We have been outplayed in the big matches with mind numbing regularity in the recent past.
It's as if all of us deserve shock treatment every few months for being mentally challenged enough
to support the Arsenal.
Now, it's the turn of El Capitan. I don't know the original source of this interview and have
read different parts on different sites. I believe most of you must have read these comments but I
will reproduce them for those who haven't.
Throughout the game [at Manchester City in the 3-0 Carling Cup defeat last Wednesday], we had a
lot of possession but didn't really have anyone to go in behind the defenders, apart from Carlos
Vela.
Ten things I noticed from this week's Champions League semifinals:
1. Much Ado About Nothing – Much to the woe of slobbering, over enthusiastic
journalists everywhere, the Barcelona myth was partially debunked on Tuesday. It's not that they
were awful by any stretch of the imagination, but when faced with an equally good team who didn't
stand aside and let them play through them they looked more than a little stumped.
Last week, saw the confederations Cup reach its climax with an exciting game seeing Brazil come
from two goals down to beat the USA 3-2. The USA certainly impressed the worldwide audience by
beating Spain and going close against the South American powerhouse. Perhaps their world ranking of
12 is merited.
There's been a clear out of Les Rosbifs in recent days, what with the transfer silly season in full
swing and approximately six weeks of the transfer window still to run. Even though a number of
Englishmen abroad are contracted to their clubs, it gives their owners the prospect of a payday if
they can [.
There have been some interesting moves involving present members of Les Rosbifs, who have moved
from one foreign club to another. One of the most interesting has been the permanent move to FC
Ujpest of Tony Stokes from West Ham United. Having been released by the Hammers in early June, the
22 year old was [.
You may (or may not) have noticed that the frequency of posting on Les Rosbifs has not been as
frequent over the past few days. This is due to some extensive research into the playing histories
of the members of the list, as well as checking if they are all at the clubs they were [...]
Disappointing news from Denmark, with the announcement that Rohan Ricketts will not be offered a
contract by Odense BK of the Danish Superliga. The right-winger, who was on trial late last week,
impressed club management but Lars Olsen, the OB coach, felt that his team already had sufficient
strength in midfield.
A few more players to say ‘Goodbye' to on Les Rosbifs, as the thorough sifting of the list
continues unabated. The biggest one of these is the departure of former Manchester United and
Manchester City winger Terry Cooke from Colorado Rapids of the MLS. Cooke was waived yesterday so
that the Rapids English coach, Gary [.
A number of new additions have cropped up in recent days too, primarily in Scotland as I have
worked at ensuring the list is up-to-date for the four divisions north of the border. Someone who
has not been mentioned yet is new Celtic manager Tony Mowbray. The former Middlesbrough and Celtic
defender, who has previously [.
Byron Webster, the former York City, Harrogate Town and Whitby Town defender, is currently on trial
with Doncaster Rovers. The 22 year old, who has spent the past two seasons plying his trade in the
Czech Leagues with FK Siad Most, had been on trial for the past fortnight with League Two side
Bury. It [.
International friendlies and World Cup qualifiers dominated last week's football, along with the
sackings of coaches, Craig Bellamy and David Beckham who all feature in this week's good, the bad
and the ugly. Good David Beckham receives his 108th cap for England. That equals Bobby Moore's
record as an outfielder with the most caps for England.
In what is being called, by many UEFA pundits, arguably the most thrilling Champions League
quarterfinal in recent memory, Chelsea knocked Liverpool out 7-5 on aggregate. However, the
aggregate score is certainly flattering for the Blues, who defended amateurish throughout the
second leg at home tonight.
Every little kid dreams of scoring the winning goal for their favorite football club. On Sunday
at Old Trafford, that dream became reality for one kid.
After a Gabriel Agbonlahor goal put Aston Villa up 2-1 in the 58th minute, Sir Alex turned to an
unsuspecting bench player. Federico Macheda, a mere 17-year-old Italian boy, was given his first
playing time for United in one of Manchester United's biggest matches of the season.

The surreal nature of watching your team at midnight on a hotel TV in Laos - complete with the
electricity cutting out every 15 minutes - was one thing but watching Tottenham collapse in 25
second-half minutes alongside my Manchester United supporting brother was another. Painful? What do
you think?

Brazilians are a funny species. We've seen some outrageous stories about Brazilian footballers,
ranging from Robinho this season to Fat Ronaldo in years past.
Just a month ago it was Adriano's turn to hit the headlines, as the former Inter Milan striker
went AWOL from Italy. Found somewhere in Brazil, Adriano told the press that he was sick of Italy
and needed to find himself.
Ten things I noticed from this week's Champions League semifinals:
1. The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth
Results lie. Sometimes. If not, then in the last 5 years I've been privileged enough to watch
the great Greek team of 2004 justly claim their prize as the greatest international team in
Europe.

When I came across this morning's comments provided by the agent of Barcelona ace Samuel Eto'o,
the first word that came to my mind was diplomatic. Mr. Mesalles, who has been
instrumental in promoting Eto'o to interested parties ever since Barca's treble-winning season came
to an end, stated that the Cameroon international preferred to see out the one year that is left
on his Barcelona contract.
It has just been brought to my attention that St Mirren and former West Ham United striker Billy
Mehmet has represented the Reupblic of Ireland at Under 21 level. He is hereby struck off the list.
For your information, I have updated the 'Wanted' page following some new leads. I have also added
an 'FAQ', which [.
Paul Ashworth continues to enjoy good results with limited means at Skonto Riga. Despite a recent
1-0 loss to Dinaburg Daugavpils, the former Peterborough United assistant manager sees his side
sitting in third spot in the Virsliga, just four points off of the top spot with plenty of games to
go. Interestingly, with the Norwich [.
