There's some really incredible stuff coming out of the Ireland-France World Cup 2010 Playoff game
slated for Saturday. I've no idea if this is a hoax or not --and there is a fat-Ronaldo sized
chance that it is-- but either way it's comedy gold. Read on about what could be the origin of the
Gaelic-Gallic soccer war at Irish Soccer Insider.

Anfield Red 11 November @ 12:16 PM EST
If ever there was a photo to sum up the way this season has gone for Liverpool, it would most
certainly be the one inserted in this article: a photo of David Ngog diving through the air with
the greatest of ease in a moment that I now consider to be comedy gold. I'm through [...]

We all know about Rafa Benitez's press conference last year where he randomly came out
with a load of facts despite being unprovoked and we all know that it was the turning point in
Liverpool's season as they lost the title that was surely going to Anfield...
Some bright spark at ESPN brought to my attention that their 5 losses in the Premier League this
term spells out one of Rafa's favourite words.

Can I get an Amen? This week's winner is: The Holy Babel.
I don't know if you guys have noticed this yet, but I really REALLY like name puns. And I think
there is a serious lack of clever names in the official game. Too many teams are named some form
of: FC My Town or Gunners Rule6969.

Last month I discovered that MeTV, a local retro television channel, was showing Barney Miller
reruns, and I've just had a blast seeing these shows I haven't seen in years. Although it was very
successful during its eight-season run from 1975-82, I don't think it got the proper respect.
That's probably due to the fact that there were so many other groundbreaking sitcoms at the time
(the same goes for the original Bob Newhart Show, which MeTV also broadcasts).

Welcome aboard for another edition of the Sound Of Football Podcast. This week your master of
ceremonies Chris Oakley, ably assisted by is ushers Graham Sibley and Terry Duffelen discuss the
comings and goings (with the emphasis on the latter) in the world of football.
First up is beleaguered Hull City boss Phil Brown but unlike others the chaps aren't too quick to
poke him with sharp sticks until he falls over the precipice.

There is nothing like diving. An art hated by many, appreciated by some, it's a part of football
whether we like it or not. So until it's eradicated from the game, I am providing fans a new wave
of classifying a dive. A fool proof system to help you identify the severity of the transgression
committed when our favorite footballers decide to cheat.

Gallas pretending to be ashamed but laughing (a French laugh) on the inside
This
week's winner is: Diaby Does Gallas
I've known this was going to be the winner for about a week now (thanks TD Ocho), but I couldn't
actually bring myself to write this post because I was laughing too hard.

Last Friday, Atlético de Madrid's supremo, Enrique Cerezo, decided to fire the
rojiblanco coach, Abel Resino. Just like all things Atlético, Abel's tenure was an
emotional rollercoaster full of expectations, disappointments and a significant amount of
comedy.
During these intense eight months, any sharp observer would distinguish four very different
phases.

So, DC United misses the playoffs for the second-consecutive season. Am I surprised? Not really,
it's been clear from fairly early on that this team was practically built to swoon down the stretch
and swoon it did - winning only two of its last seven matches. That said, missing out on the
playoffs on a comedy handball by a festering sore of a player (Fred) in stoppage time was an
especially emphatic way of doing it.

After today's victory over Manchester United, perhaps they should change their theme song from
You'll Never Walk Alone to this one.
And yeah, I know that those pictures didn't come from today's game, but I can't keep track of
all of Torres' goals against the Mancs nor Vidic's red cards against Liverpool.

Three points, some nice attacking football, a good game to watch and third in the table. Put it
like that, not a bad Saturday afternoon, but in truth, we got away with it. Emotions at the finish
were a mixture of pleasure and relief. Saved by a couple of comedy misses. Like the Bolton game,

real, though you can't blame EBJT for losing the plot.

The World Cup qualifier between Mexico and El Salvador saw some un -bee - coming tactics by a
swarm of bees that were obviously supporting Mexico.
The swarm took up temporary residence inside the El Salavdor goal and proceeded to distract the
goalie by buzzing around and cheering for Mexico.

Dear DC United,
I thought you weren't supposed to handle balls in the penalty area HA HA HA HA OH GOD THE COMEDY it
burns
Boy, I'm really glad you guys got a chance to do that picture. Remember when Brian McBride and Cobi
Jones did the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue? Remember those fashion shoots the Nats did - boy,
I sure hope they do another one next summer!

I have a non-soccer question for my regulars: what was the best comedy movie you've seen so far
this calendar year? Is it just me or do they not make enough comedies anymore? I think that is the
fact, Jack...#1 - Today I called Fulham. Then I called the 'Nats. Then then 'Nats ran their own
story. Urgh.

I haven't written about too many comedy songs here. That's because they tend to wear out their
welcome if you listen to them too much. When I interviewed Jonathan Coulton three years ago (was it
really that long ago?), I asked him about that, and he spoke about the importance of creating
two-dimensional scenarios and using subtlety for that very reason.

Worle FC a local club in Somerset, England found a huge penis drawn on their pitch on Monday.
But this wasn't an on-the-spot prank. This was planned. According to Worle FC assistant manager
Mark Chesney, the club had their line painter locked up, so whoever did it brought their own. And
who are the suspects for this oddly proportioned work of art?

When Keegan left Newcastle back in September, it was expected the club would have to make a
pay-out of around the £9m mark, hard enough to take. However, this morning The Daily Star are
reporting that Keegan's lawyers are claiming for loss of potential future earnings, claiming the
whole episode has damaged his future employment prospects.

Alex's mind games had worked and Keegan just cracked, I remember sitting in front of the TV and
just watching in amazement. He'd just love it...

I'm in a pretty good mood today, so here are a few songs that I hope will put a smile on your
face, too. The first is one of my favorite moments from the last season of Flight Of The Conchords
that didn't involve Art Garfunkel or Australians, their Roxanne tribute when Jemaine decided to

I heard about Big Fan the other day through an interview with writer/director Robert Siegel on
The Sound Of Young America. Putting aside the fact that I automatically liked it because it stars
Patton Oswalt as a fellow loudmouth Giants fan, I simply loved the plot: a guy gets beat to a
pulp by his favorite player and isn't sure whether to press charges because it would hurt the
team.

the best way to regroup was with a bit of comedy. So, whoever can throw out the best three captions
wins dance lessons from Anderson and a negotiating lessons from Gary Neville.

On Sunday, those of us who watched the AC Milan vs. InterMilan match witnessed a moment of
confusion and comedy. During the course of play, international star Ronaldinho was flashed by the
referee with a red card.
Fortunately, in a moment of card waving flare, the referee mistakenly showed the wrong color.

I've often thought that in our worst moments, the American soccer community often resembles comic
book nerds complete with heroes, villains, memes that make no sense to anyone else, bizarre
costumes, fan-fiction,
slash-fiction, pin-ups who aren't nearly as attractive as their fans
think they are, questions that really deserve no answer, our own DC v.
